I love how much Katniss is able to say by saying something else. Like here, where she says Peeta would be able to confuse her by talking about her family. But what she's actually saying is that she's NOT confused yet, meaning she's thinking clearly. Thus, she implies that she KNOWS she needs Peeta and KNOWS she'd rather die than live without him. In this moment, she's fully aware of how she feels and what she wants. She says it without ever actually saying it and I think that's what makes her such a fascinating (and misunderstood) character
