— ;; BRUTAL, GELID WINTER VICIOUSLY BEATS down on him as he aimlessly traverses the deceptively alluring lands of frost and pearly geometric fractals. Zephyr whips through the air and instinctively he pulls his coat over his chest, shrugging into the negligible comfort its old, ratty fabric provides. 

Given the events of the previous night, there's simply no way he'll be allowed back into the shop, not without dire consequences for both his psyche and his physique. Multiple tuneups to instinct and personality had been done to Chaos just hours before the brawl that left both him and the Doctor shaking; he knows he can trust him to protect and care for Kit. Good, it's better that he's not around to put them in danger.

Lacerations, now dried and still untreated, sting underneath winter weather. Not as if any of the pain he's endured throughout these two nights has mattered any. Everyone's made their thoughts crystal clear on him at this point. Obnoxious, heartless, a horrible brat. Always the adults with tendencies to say these things, to shame him for being cold and closed off from the world. A world that they had made him hate through their own actions. Kindness towards him had been so conditional, so far and in-between. Why would he be interested in showing it to anyone when they'd yet to give him a reason to?

Aching, screaming legs threaten to buckle under delirious weight, having been upright and in use all this time. Wandering with no goal, no destination. At this point he's not even sure how far out he's ventured— but in the end the answer to that doesn't really matter anyway. Entirely replaceable to anyone who happens to have known him, he wouldn't be missed. And those who mourned wouldn't for long, as they'd surely find themselves realizing how wholly intolerable he really was. And all of the Sonics he'd run across... he can't help but to wonder what they'd think of him now, in those flashes of memory of the Doctor's arm, bent unnaturally and twitching, and himself stood over his form, bloodied and breathing in buckets.

Treelines of varying colossal sizes obscure the night sky, providing only the slightest awning for the snowflakes that flitter down, their clumpy, pulchritudinous forms only serving to further tether his dazed mind to the harrowing reality he's stuck in. A few half dozen steps in, however, and his body finally quits on him, knees plowing into the remnant of snowfall, spilling out all over dried, matted fur and his coat. Shivering, gasping breaths leaving audibly and visibly, he hugs himself tight, eventually conceding to wrapping both tails around his body to further warm himself. Disgusting, he thinks hateful about himself, you're a traitor, you have no right to use those. You're not Tails. Tails is kind, Tails is sprightly, Tails is ebullient. You're not Tails. You're nobody.

Scanning the nearby area, potentially for a brush or a clearing with less snow, he spots a hole in the base of a nearby tree. Boxy and something straight out of his childhood, like a place he'd curl up in during nights spent out far too long and far too away from his cabin. Hideaways that he'd seek out for refuge from Robotnik's mechanical tyranny when it first began; the prelude to a saga of his life he'd never realized would come to such a gruesome end. Low to none on the list of alternate options, weak limbs assist him in crawling into the hollow, winding his frail form into a ball, cuddling into the small bit of heat his bearings leave him with.

Digging his hands into his pockets, he pauses, reeling out his pack and lighter. In spite of all the stress his body is suffering, he can't bring himself to want one, but he lights the lighter up anyway, holding it between pinched fingers to relish in the temporary homeliness that the flame brings him. Within its gradient of embers, he sees visions— wistful memories of the past. Christmases spent cuddled up with all his friends in the hangar. Laughing, sharing stories, exchanging gifts.

He had never been particularly fond of larger gatherings like that, of being surrounded by people, but they had always been there. A part of his being, a part of his core, just like the mud and the rain, and up until not too long ago, he believed they always would be. Yet, the mud and the rain and the dust would never fade; they would remain constant, coming and going, and they would eventually restart the cycle. They would pass. He knows, and he understands that.

What had happened to himself in the night, however, he can't understand, but he knows deep down that it will not restart, it will not cycle, and it will not pass. Wreathed there, concealed within the tree's cavity, he cries for those things which had happened in the night that will not pass.

He cries for his friendship with Sonic. For his friendship with Sonic, and for the boy inside who had died so long ago.

ascoren - she has changed over 70 times im so fr. shes a skeleton that is sblijgs with the...four others. she hates her au dawg she only likes classic sans, paci (sans not papyrus) frombher au, zero(my sibs oc), and swap papyrus. she lowk chill.

in the au there is 2 sanses and 2 papyruses. its a genocide/pacifist thing and its like if you had fell sans and turned him into papyrus(genocide), dream sans mixed with error(genocide sans), swap papyrus and cross (pacafist papyrus), and alphys mixed with blueberry sans. (pacafist sans) IT WAS KINDA COOL. it was a self aware au where the world was kind of corrupting itself. the different timelines caused by 1000030r00302 runs or wtv very basic I WAS 10 OKAY. IT WAS 2019. (ive been a fan since 2017. i loved indie games dawg) but uhm yeah the files got corrupted leading into their personalitys. ascoren was the one that hopped universes she was the first made a few hours before the others I MADE THEM ALL IN ONE DAY AND TOOK LIKE 8 FUCKUNG HOURS this is ALL on my old phone that hardly works sadly. my galaxy s9...

1. What is your muse’s daily routine like?

- We’ll go with his day-to-day life on Angel Island, disregarding his routine when he’s out on the surface.He’ll typically spend the day tending to his farm and the animals living on the island, exercising or keeping his martial arts technique up to snuff. He’ll often answer any messages/letters he received early in the morning with breakfast, then get to work on tending to the farm and the animals. Eat, exercise, hunt/gather/fish, store everything he’s collected, then head back to the Master Emerald for dinner. He’ll be on Guard duty for the rest of the night, watching the clouds and the stars until he falls asleep.

2. How different would your muse’s life/situation would be if the decision they made was different?

- Hm. If Knuckles opted against helping Sonic and Tails find the Chaos Emeralds after he got the Master Emerald back from Eggman/Metal Sonic–if he opted to be purely isolated on his island… He’d be content, but he wouldn’t be nearly as socially capable as he is now. (And he’s not even that fantastic at it now.)

4. What’s your muse’s relationship with their family like?

- As of now, he has no knowledge of his biological family. So Zephyr, Sunna, Tikal, the fauna of Angel Island… hell, even the fauna… they’re his family.Zephyr’s not necessarily as much of a father-figure as much as a mentor, but the two do share a tight-nitch, trusting bond.Sunna straight-up adopted him, she’s his mother now. Sunna can sometimes irk and embarrass him with her teasings, and Knuckles may frustrate Sunna… but they absolutely love one another and would do anything for the other. Sunna is proud to take Knuckles wherever he needs to go, and Knuckles is proud to be allowed to ride her.

5. If your muse could change one thing in their life, what would it be and why?

- He quietly longs to regain memory of his family, people, and past overall. He wants so badly to remember… but if anyone on the Island knows anything about it, they’re keeping it from him very securely.

…but they wouldn’t do that, right? …. :)

7. Favorite food and drink?

Milk and grapes.

9. If your muse is a hero, do you believe there could be a possibility they’ll turn to the dark side? If your muse is a villain, do you think they’re worthy of redemption?

He’s a hero, so the question is, would Knuckles ever be turned to the dark side? …He’d need either a damn good reason… or to not be… fully himself.

12. Share a headcanon you have for your muse that you never shared or talk about much.

I believe Knuckles’ fear of ghosts stems from two things: Fear of an enemy he can’t touch or see, and his sensitive emotions reacting to their depraved souls’ spiritual vibrations through a subconscious sense of empathy. He doesn’t like how ghosts make him feel.

14. What kind of AU would you like to see your muse in?

You know that Undertale AU where everyone battles through dancing, or the one through musical instruments?Well, one of my guilty pleasures is Sonic Underground, and something that would make my day is an AU where everyone battled and communicated their stronger bonds Musical Style through musical instruments; royal triplets have their musical instruments, Knuckles would have his own instrument channeling his power (not sure what instrument he’d use), Robotnik would have……. i don’t know, a death metal band as his army?

Something like that. 

I’m also in absolute love with the idea of an Arranged Marriage AU where Knuckles is salty and angry 95% of the time and trying his hardest to sabotage his own wedding and letting everyone know his situation is bullshit.

17. Is your muse religious?

‘Spiritual’ is a better term to use.

20. What kind of person would your muse be attracted to?

Knuckles is attracted to honesty, patience, intelligence, and kindness… though above all else, something that will almost instantly earn his respect is courage, the willingness to fight and face danger in spite of one’s own fears or the danger to their own life. They could be fearless or not, but he highly respects those who are openly scared and face danger in spite of it.

Those are people he holds in the highest honor.

27. What are some things your muse does to relax?

He may play with the animals of his island, particularly his Perytons brothers and sister, and the Chao. He’ll sometimes stargaze or watch clouds, explore the island, read history books, or meditate.

the whole point of my sonic next gen is that a lot of the stuff that happens in the canon comes back and happens again its literally a history repeating story like there are original things going on but theres also constant repeating

you have a family that must come together to save a parent (Sonic, Sonia, Manic saving/finding Allena vs Sam, Spark, Archer, and Shrapnel saving/finding Sonic)

dark arms hybrids trying to fit into this world while still battling against their alien heritage (Spark and Star dealing with their intense powers and also Eclipse's return)

a tyrannical ruler constantly aiming for the same goal no matter how often they fail and the team dedicated to fighting them (Eggman and the Freedom Fighters/Resistance vs Zephyr and the New Freedom Fighters)

a metal sonic who did so much damage before finding a new identity and becoming part of the team after being fixed up (Shard getting fixed up by Charles vs Atlas getting fixed up by Shrapnel)

a time traveler from the future who comes back to try and stop the cataclysmic future they came from from happening (Silver (and sorta Blaze) vs Amber (one of Silver's grandchildren mind you) and Amora (added with Amora's brother also coming back in time to try and stop them from succeeding/help their mom win in the end))

many characters chasing after their ancestry or trying to continue it on (Jet and Knuckles vs Shrapnel, Nickie, and Amber)

like obviously nothing is completely one for one, as it shouldn't be thats not how im gonna write a good story. but there are so many intentional parallels into this all that i put in. admittedly a huge part of this is because i remember when i grew up reading archie it always struck a cord with me that no matter what Jules and Bernie did their son and his friends still group up fighting. they wanted to make a better future for the next generation and they failed. it stuck with me a lot as a kid

i think Sonic and the others succeeded in doing what they could and peace came for a long time but it was inevitable that just around the corner deep in the shadows was something else to threaten that peace and so now, similarly, their children have to continue it all

Sonic Next Gen AU

It’s what it says on the tin; my main Sonic Next Gen AU. I do have other next gens but they’re their own thing. This AU is much bigger with a ton of characters and stuff going around so I wanted to make a post that can link to everything.

All character links go to their TH pages as well, as these refs will take me a hot sec to churn out

The main AU story is that after the retirement of Doctor Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik world ending disasters and life threatening villains slowed to almost a complete stop. The empire was completely gone and anyone else was just never that much of a threat. And so, the Freedom Fighters disbanded and everyone settled down to make lives of their own.

Now, almost 30 years later, the Egg Empire returns under the leadership of a new and unknown hedgehog named Zephyr. With it comes the full force of Mobius' bad fucking luck. With most the old FF retired it ushers in a new era.

The New Freedom Fighters (NFF). Lead by Cream the Rabbit and employing just about any snappy young hero looking to help out the people of their planet. This includes but not limited to the kids of the older members who are looking to pick up where their parents left off!

Main Characters

Samantha “Sam” Acorn | She/They | 27

The oldest of the Hedgehog Cousins and Sonic and Sally's daughter born platonically as Sally wanted a kid and asked Sonic to be the father after they had already been separated for a while.

Sam is very standoffish and often times comes off as mean and bitchy. She can definitely be pretty blunt and easily annoyed but she's someone who cares for others very strongly. She has a strained relationship with her dad and younger brother, Spark, for the start of it all but they end up growing closer and figuring themselves all out as the journey continues.

Sam is powerless and didn't get any real abilities from her dad. She has a little bit of control over chaos energy but just enough to use the chaos emeralds. However, when she does she's very unstable in her super form.

Spark Maria Hedgehog | He/Him | 23

Spark is the first son of Sonic and Shadow who came after the two got married. He is a test tube baby made with their DNA as the two of them were having a lot of issues conceiving on their own.

He is very anxious and gets motion sick easily. Even with his power over speed he would much rather go as slow as possible in most situations. Only using his super speed when absolutely necessary.

Spark has his fathers' powers and grows into them slowly. Getting the full force of it all around 17-19. Around the same time they had inhibitors developed for him to help with the intense chaos energy that had begun to develop in him.

Archer MontClair | He/They | 27

Archer is the son of Sonia and Bartleby and only a few months younger than Sam. He is a fashion influencer and Sam's best friend since they were kids, a practically inseparable duo.

Where he isn't nearly as blunt as Sam, Archer does also come off dry and bitchy to most. A kid with a silver spoon in his mouth since day one for sure. However, despite his inability to know how much a banana would cost he is still as kind as the others.

Shrapnel Hawk | She/Her | 18

Shrapnel is the child of Manic and Jet and was the youngest of the Hedgehog Cousins for a good bit till Star was born. She is a hyperactive and energetic teen with a knack for robotics and engineering. She spends a lot of time with her Uncle Tails in his workshop and hopes to have something like it of her own some day.

Star Hedgehog | She/Her | 3

Star is the youngest daughter of Sonic and Shadow and the youngest of the cousins all around. She's seen as their 'rainbow baby' as her birth was unplanned and seemingly impossible as it was a natural birth after Sonic became pregnant out of the blue.

Despite her age she is already fastened with inhibitor rings as her energy and power is already extremely intense for her little body. She is also far more Dark Arms in appearance, behavior, and power than anyone really expected.

Zephyr Robotnik | She/Her | N/A

Zephyr was Eggman's 'Plan B' before he fully retired and then later on passed away. A child made from the DNA of Sonic, the Robotics of the Metal series, and a few pointers from Gerald's writings from Shadow's creation. Made to be the perfect successor to the Robotnik name once she came of age.

Despite being the youngest of the Eggman creations she was dubbed his successor and takes her place as such after his death. Of course this does cause some tension between her and Metal Sonic but she brushes it off all the same.

She has a desire to convince Sam to join along side her as sister but is always met with rejection at the offer. Despite this, she still holds an odd soft spot for the other.

A nanny that Sonic and Shadow hired to help watch over Star. Both so that they would be free to help the NFF more often and so that Star would have any unintentional feelings of neglect the same way Sam and Spark developed.

A new Egg Empire scientist that signed up with the promise of equipment for their experiments. Mostly delving in biology but can tinker around in robotics as needed.

A rouge Shadow Android that ran away and kept in hiding for many years till Atlas stumbled upon her recently. Isn't too interested in getting dragged into NFF affairs but gets dragged into it all anyways.
