10 Tips for New Stray Kids Fanfic Writers

Do you ever sit there staring at your Stray Kids draft and think:

“Is this even good?” “What if no one reads it?” “How the heck do I post fics on Tumblr anyway??”

But the truth is—everyone starts somewhere, and Tumblr’s full of people who do want to read what you’re writing (yes, even that fluff fic where Chan is your barista).

This guide is for you—the new fic writer, the quiet reader finally ready to post, the person overthinking everything.

Tip 1: Set up your space

You don’t need a fancy theme or 10k followers. But having a cozy blog setup helps people find and follow your work.

Pick a username you like (bonus if it hints at SKZ or writing).

In your bio, mention your fics, SKZ biases, and any ships or genres you focus on.

Pin a post!!! Link your intro, a masterlist, or a WIP schedule—your call. The most important thing is that this stays ORGANIZED. If people cannot find your fics , they wont be able to read them.

Tip 2: Use tags like your fic depends on it (because it does)

Tags = Tumblr SEO. The first 20 matter most.

Here’s how to tag smart:

Fandom: #stray kids, #skz, #stray kids fanfic

Member: #han jisung, #bang chan, etc.

Ship (if any): #hyunlix, #minchan, etc.

Genre/tropes: #fluff, #angst, #hurt comfort, #roommates au

Format: #oneshot, #smau, #drabble, #fic series

This helps the right readers find your stuff!

🛑 Important: Don’t tag members, ships, or tropes that aren’t in your fic just for reach. That’s called false tagging, and it breaks trust with readers. Someone clicking #seungmin isn’t expecting a Jeongin x reader fic with zero Seungmin content 😅

Keep your tags accurate and relevant—it builds a loyal reader base way faster than overtagging ever will.

Tip 3: Use the “Read More” feature

If your fic is more than a few paragraphs, add a Read More break (the little scissors ✂️ in the editor). It keeps dashboards clean and your post looking tidy.

Bonus: You can add a fun header, a quote, or tags before the cut to hook readers in!

Tip 4: Make a Masterlist (even if you only have 1 fic)

It’s your fic menu! This is where people will go to read your work. Be proud of it!! List your stories by member, ship, or type. Add emojis for ✨aesthetic✨. Update it as you go.

Even if you’ve only posted once—put it on there. You’re a writer now. 🫶

Tip 5: Engage with other SKZ fic writers

Tumblr isn’t a one-way street. You’ll build a reader base faster (and have more fun!) if you:

Reblog others’ fics and leave comments on their work.

Answer asks. Send asks.

Join writing events or tag games.

Hype up your mutuals!!

The stray kids community is super supportive—don’t be shy.

Tip 6: Use content warnings + proper tags

Keep your readers safe and informed by tagging:

Sensitive themes: #tw abuse, #death, #mental health

NSFW: Always tag it clearly, and don’t forget the 18+ warning

Major spoilers: if it’s plot heavy, give a heads up

It’s respectful and helps build trust.

Tip 7 : Reminder: Notes ≠ Worth

Got 7 notes on your fic? That’s seven whole people who took the time to read your words. That’s a small group reading circle. Intimate. Intentional. Beautiful.

20 notes? That’s a classroom full of people listening to the story you created.

100 notes? You just filled a conference room. Imagine standing at the front, reading your fic out loud to everyone in that space.

500+ notes? That’s a theater audience. All eyes on you. Applauding your imagination.

No matter the number, your story reached someone. That matters.

✨ Some fics blow up overnight. Some quietly change someone’s whole day. Both are real impact.

Write because you love it. Write because it’s in you. Write for the one person who needed that exact scene, line, or character—and found it in your words.

Tip 8 : Make your blog feel you

Tumblr loves writers who:

Share WIP snippets or headcanons

Post silly tag games

Talk about writing struggles (we all relate)

Make moodboards or fic memes

People connect with your words and your personality. Let that shine.

Tip 9: Start small—and keep it fun

You don’t need to drop a 10k word masterpiece your first time out. Write a drabble. A blurb. A tiny scene that makes you smile.

Low-pressure writing builds consistency and helps you find your voice. The best part? Those small fics often get the most love because they’re easy to read and reblog.

Tip 10: Reblog. Your. Own. Fic.

Tumblr moves fast. Your post can get buried in hours. So reblog it! More than once. With:

A different teaser line

A fun tag (like #if you like pain, read this)

A “thank you” or “I can’t believe I wrote this” moment

It’s not annoying. It’s smart. People are in different time zones and scroll at different hours. Let your fic breathe.

🎤 . . . Billy enjoys looking after daisy when she's regressed. That does not mean that he does not get slightly frustrated at times. Daisy likes to push his buttons and will absolutely get him bickering with her. This will carry on until either Karen or Camila basically just say "you are arguing with a literal toddler right now, just stop-" which is usually followed by Warren making a comment about him losing said 'argument' whilst trying not to laugh because Billy is way too invested in proving his points.

🚬 . . . Will not admit it but he is so so protective over Daisy. No one is able to give her even a bad look without him there ready to start something on her behalf. Not that she isn't more than capable of doing so herself tho <3

🎚️ . . . "someone sure did a number on you, didn't they-" he genuinely hates that someone (or multiple people) have made Daisy feel like anything less than amazing. Any time they do something positive like celebrate a holiday as a family and she makes an offhanded comment about this experience being so different to what she was used to he has to physically stop himself from getting angry.

🎸 . . . When Daisy is regressed is the only time he won't cause a fuss over her picking the music playing in his car lol.

🎤 . . . ^ they often go on drives, Daisy loves the beach so they usually end up there.

🚬 . . . Billy has a habit of saying the wrong things to Daisy without necessarily meaning what he said. 😭 "I never would have thought you were so.. broken." Daisy is not afraid to let him know when he's said the wrong thing. He will exhaust himself trying to figure out the best way to apologize however will never acknowledge how much effort will go into said apologies.

🎚️ . . . Daisy is typically pretty energetic when regressed and she loves dragging Billy around with her. He has acted overly dramatic about this before and it always makes Daisy laugh.

🎸 . . . He will sing to/with her to entertain and/or calm her down <333

🎤 . . . When he saw Daisy spiral with Nicky he was terrified, he saw himself in her more than ever and he was so uncomfortable with that and what that could mean. (He already hated how similar she was to him regarding parental figure/(s) not being there for them.)

🚬 . . . Honestly he told Rod he was kicking Daisy out of the band however it was mainly due to him being so scared of anything happening to her and wanting her out of the 'rock and roll scene'. When he realised she had overdosed? He had never been so terrified. That incident really messed with him and continues to do so.

🎚️ . . . Every time Daisy hits a milestone of being clean Billy buys her a stuffie. He wants her to know how proud of her he is, he knows better than anyone in the band the struggles of addiction.

🎸 . . . Daisy is super affectionate, she always wants hugs or to hold his hand!!! He will grumble as he holds her/her hand acting as if it's a nuisance to him but both him and Daisy know he actually loves that she feels safe enough with him to be so affectionate!!!

🎤 . . . Billy has been scared many a time by Daisy just jumping onto his back with zero prior warning, he always makes sure she doesn't fall but by God if it doesn't give him a minor heart attack every single time-

🚬 . . . Daisy loves to doodle, specifically in her journal... Or on Billy's hand/arm. Those are the only two options lol. The band finds it hilarious to see Billy with his arm covered in colourful flowers, stars and butterflies.

🎚️ . . . He likes to braid Daisy's hair. (Partially because he enjoys it and partially because he must prove that he can as the whole band doesn't believe he is able to do so!!!)

🎸 . . . Billy is not allowed to pick outfits out for Daisy. Camilas rules lol ("why don't you ask Billy about that dumb looking shirt he's got on". Daisy does not think that Billy is any good with fashion 💀)

🎤 . . . Daisy forces him to dance if he's being 'grumpy'

my tips for follower events ♡

after hosting five follower events, i have learned quite a bit, so i compiled my findings into a single post! however, please know that some of these may not apply to or work for everyone.

i am not claiming to be an expert on this stuff. i just thought these were some things that might be helpful.

also, when i say 'prompts' i mean the things you request. i've never learned what they're actually called.

you can find this in my link masterpost under how-tos!

this is long and chunky so be warned !

━ make your follower events short. the times i've made my follower events longer than a week, i have found myself disappointed with the little amount of (or just zero) requests i was getting on the last few days, no matter how many followers i have. your followers most likely did not follow you to participate in a follower event, so not all of them should be expected to participate. so, i'd say maybe make your events about a week long, maybe less!

━ display your skills before the follower event. i've noticed that my followers request a lot more moodboards and collages than any other things. i think this is because many of my followers have been pleased with my mood boards, or my blog aesthetic, overall, and they can be confident that i'll fulfill their request to my best. on the otherhand, i don't get as many requests for things i've never actually done on my blog. so basically, what i'm saying is plan out your prompts ahead of time, before you actually reach your follower milestone but know you want to do an event. that way, if something like "i'll make you a moodboard" is one of your prompts, you can experiment, practice, and display your skill with making moodboards, and also see how your followers react.

━ make your prompts clear and easy to follow. if your prompt has any kind of additional instructions, your followers are less likely to choose those prompts so they don't have to toggle back and forth like what else did i have to say? what else did i have to do for this prompt? people like simple, easy-to-req prompts, where they can just say "congrats, can i request __? thanks!"

━ make your prompts unique. if you're entire event is based on things you've seen other people do for their events, it'll feel stereotypical and something your followers could request from anyone. try to make some of your prompts special to you and specific to your theme. also, put yourself in the eyes of your follower. can they understand that each prompt is something unique to itself? put some sort of differentiation for each prompt that feels too similar to another. that way, your followers can know the difference, and also be able to easily choose which one they want to request.

━ post about your event! don't just post "first day of my event!" or "last day of my event!" or you'll get bombarded with requests on those days only. and post about it in a time slot where you know you will be able to respond faster, so you don't have to keep people waiting for a few hours. also, make it clear if you have other obligations and will not be able to respond to asks immediately from x:xx to x:xx.
