And the stills from the croc restoration! A very large restoration project just complete. This is an antique nile crocodile that needed some well overdue tlc. I completely cleaned it. Fixed the jaw, missing claws, new eyes, sculpted in the missing parts on the top of the head and other parts too, also covered all the seals where there were signs of the stitching. And of course sculpting in the missing teeth and recolouring them. Then the big task of completely recolouring the crocodile again so it looks more realistic to an actual crocodile and not some horrible brown antiquey mummified look. Mounted up a fox I’ve been working on for some time. It has a lot of bad slippage so I used a donor fox I keep just for parts to transplant. It’s not perfect but did the trick. The pose the client wanted definitely lenses itself to have this type of work done. We managed to mount up the second cormorant which is a immature female. The size comparison between the massive adult male is insane! There were extra challenges with this cormorant as it had a completely smashed skull. Both cormorants we worked on had some form of broken wings in different areas. Nevertheless, we powered through. This one has hand painted eyes by me as Brad thought the ones I bought were too green 🙈, both are now drying together. Will go on a single base together with some groundwork to make a rather large diorama. That’s the last bird and piece of taxidermy this year now. Till next year. Have a happy new year everyone. It’s been a full on two days working on some cormorants, what I thought was a juvenile in the freezer ended up being a huge male adult! And its been the biggest bird I’ve mounted in 8 years of doing taxidermy 😂 I’ve also tried out caulking properly when mounting for the first time and it’s made a huge difference in smoothing out the plumage. Thank you @brdwdwrd for your assistance too 😘 you can see the size difference between the juvi and adult that’s a chonk.
