For the last few minutes of Star Wars Day, a classic, which reinvigorated my enthusiasm in Star Wars nearly five years ago.
#star wars#star wars day#star wars call me maybe#carly rae jepsen#the mere fact that the prequels were presented on an equivalent level as the originals meant prequel positivity for me#which encouraged me to embark on the twice-annual Star Wars Saga Marathon

Happy 10/25!! (Still holds.)
10/25 is typically a day for Homestuck, but I spent it celebrating Problem Sleuth. I carved my SPOOK SCHEMATIC into my SCHEMA PUMPKIN, dined on my own recipe of 5-ALARM HOT SAUCE, and sampled a bit of CANDY CORN LIQUOR. That is to say, I needed liquor to be able to tolerate the disgusting taste of candy corn. Oh and I reread Problem Sleuth.

Torgo, what's up with the trombone on the wall?
It is my grandfather’s trombone. He died about fifteen years ago, and when my grandmother moved out of her house she got rid of a lot of stuff and distributed it to the kids and grandkids. Since I play trombone, I got the trombone. It doesn’t play very well, and I already had two trombones in much better condition, so I decided to use it for display purposes, and hung it on the wall.
This was the one his parents bought when he was a kid in school band back in the thirties. The case is super cool as well. He carved the last name of his high school girlfriend (not my grandmother) on the case. Whoops!

Ugh, just watched it. Would have been better off putting it off indefinitely. Man, that sucked the big one.
You guys I’m sitting here in my Prospit dress desperately putting off reading the end of Homestuck, trying to find something else to do. Maybe reread Problem Sleuth, make some tacos with 5-alarm hot sauce, go out and try to buy a pumpkin this time of year, anything to put off the end.
If it I read the end, there is no more Homestuck to look forward to. If it ends, I never again see that magical euphoric blue arrow on top of those sad purple arrows. If it ends, the fandom dies. If it ends, I have to be an adult.
I don’t want it to end.

Okay, after watching the Blu-Ray and pausing at dramatically inappropriate times effectively ruining my first home viewing of the movie, I’ve come to the conclusion that it is a herringbone weave. The good news is that I own a pretty good loom, and have a vague idea of how to make that particular pattern. The bad news is I have no idea how to weave anything other than a rectangle. This will take some work.
Still not entirely sure how the shoulders work though. Quilting? Some kind of bunched up technique? If anyone has any idea, please send suggestions. I’m at that point where I just don’t know enough of the terminology to even use Google.
With all these new hi-res TFA images coming out lately, I hope someone compiles a detailed analysis of Rey’s Island outfit because I have a great need to make it and am willing to learn felting to do it.

If I wear Anders mittens and a Cullen sweater at the same time, will I spontaneously combust, or will I simply lose any credibility I ever could have had as a Dragon Age fan?

Whatever. They're both cute.

Commander Cullen's Cocoon Cardigan (pattern by @biowearables)
I scaled down the size a lot, and tweaked the style to taste, but otherwise this was a very cool pattern with meaningful design elements, and it challenged my knitting skills in multiple arenas. The Templar insignia on the back is just the coolest thing ever and I want to make cables that depict actual pictures/symbols rather than neat swirly patterns all the time now.

Jakku dress for the Star Wars Planets collection.
For the final dress in this collection, I made a loose-knit belted tunic and hand warmers, weighed down by relics of the original movies. Because Jakku is basically a metaphor for being caught up in the past, I used actual toys I used to play with when I was a little kid: the ships from the Micro Machines collector set. I even used the ones that broke over time, because that made it even more appropriate.
It’s sort of intentionally simple and kind of ugly-ish, but that’s sort of what I like about it. I could see myself going on my own Star Wars adventure wearing this. Because of that, and the use of materials of actual real sentimental value to me, this dress is a great way to finish up the collection. It went through several years, with waxing and waning fandom activity, as well as many changes in my own life. Now it’s time to look to the future for a new collection; a new adventure.

Naboo dress for the Star Wars planet collection!
This one reflects the stylish, progressive culture covering the underwater civilization underneath. For the underdress, I shaped the waist using cabling, my first attempt at the technique. The purple overdress used progressively smaller needles for the sleeves and skirt as I worked up, giving it a dynamic texture and shape. I opened the shoulders and made it asymmetrical because it's Naboo. You need at least a little taste of doofy Star Warsy fashion.

Geonosis dress for the Star Wars Planet collection.
I love the aesthetic of Geonosis, with the cool rock formations and bug inhabitants, so for the dress I used a honeycomb stitch and webby wrap things at the top meant to resemble wings. There's probably a name for that but I don't know it.

When @tatteredpantaloons posted this lovely WiP chart, I decided I had to make this pair of mittens. Publicly, I had to make them because I am a sucker for stealth-nerd knitwear, and also because, as you can probably tell from the pictures, I really, really need to practice my stranded knitting. Privately, I had to make them because I’m human garbage that somehow finds Dragon Age II to be my favorite one, and fuck me I even love Anders.
I modified the pattern a bit to better fit my hands, and added the feathery cuffs because I like my accessories to be annoying, obtrusive, more feathery than necessary, and about to fall apart at any moment. Huh.
#knitting#mittens#dragon age#anders#secret shame#oh no I'm doing the fonzie pose I am the worst model#I wore them once and about a third of the feathers fell out and I was like yes this is right
