So where has Traditional Geek been? To be quite honest, it started out as a year off to adjust to being parents. Being parents brought such joy & light to our family. There were struggles that took time. Nursing, postpartum depression/anxiety, daycare transitions, going back to work full time. When I thought things could get back to a new normal Covid pandemic started. All the work I had done in therapy, with meds, & with being open about my struggles crumbled. My world switched to survival mode. Survive these two weeks then it should be fine. Survive this semester teaching remote then it should be fine. Survive keeping kiddo home for the summer then it should be fine. It wasn’t. Survive had turned into 2 years of this. When the vaccines became available we saw a glimmer of hope. We knew there would be some hesitation from the masses in the vaccines but I was not prepared for the ignorance, selfishness, & terrifying spread of misinformation that took hold here in the US. So we continued survive as covid, politics, & world issues continued on. I did my best over the past almost 3 years to be present for my family, & my job. That was it. My passion, my creativity, had to be put on the back burner. I just needed to survive. When summer 2021 arrived there was a light at the end of the tunnel again. We decided that it was time to add our second child to the family we have always wanted. Kiddo needed a sibling & my age/health were a factor. We did not expect to get a positive test so soon after our decision to try. Two days later I would end up in the ER with a kidney infection, kidney stone, & hydronephrosis on my right kidney. Being in early pregnenacy meant finding and treating these issues took 3 months & 2 surgeries. Then we lost family members one after another from Covid, and accidents, unknown reasons, and old age. This shook my optimism and I have been in “survive” mode ever since. We are expecting nugget 2 sometime in March. Nugget 1 will be 3 in early April. Traditional Geek will return, but we first have to find our new normal, & feel like we are not constantly “surviving”. #update from K and D. K is finally feeling better after several illnesses and infections (including shingles). They were hard to get over due to not being able to take medication to treat said illnesses due to the pregnancy. K is finally feeling well enough to finish the last two commissions and hopes to ship them out this coming Monday. K and D will be on full maternity leave starting March 28th (unless baby decides to come earlier) and do not plan to update new items until June. The website and store will hopefully be fully updated in May. Traditional Geek will be taking this convention season off as artist alley vendors, but hope to keep the site and online store active.
