Zeus, Honey Dreams and Wishes 🍯
Last night I had this dream of two candles burning on my desk. I blew them off for some reason and instantly went “Oh shit, I forgot to make a wish! I should make a wish before the smoke arrives to Olympus!” So I made a couple of wishes and said “Hail Zeus!” (I don’t remember if I mentioned any other gods, if I did I am sorry gods :()
All of my wishes were about things out of my control and I woke up to several phone calls signaling one of my wishes came true. And it was the most vital one.
So… I am forever grateful. Thank you Zeus, the one who is the most generous with his gifts. You are the best father up there. 🌩️
Note: With that opportunity on hand, let’s talk about why we blow candles and make a wish on birthdays. My fav two theories:
1) The belief that the smoke can carry our wishes to our gods in sky. ✨
2) People were celebrating the birthday of Artemis in Ancient Greek (and today, ofc) with moon-shaped cakes and candles on them, shining like the moon. Wishes are made and the candles are blew out, again, smoke carrying our messages to Artemis. Cool! 🌝
Oh and there is this thing about the communication with gods. We tend to use rising things (like fire and smoke) to send messages to Ouranic (Olympic, Living-in-the-sky) gods or the Ouranic aspects of gods. Like Zeus Ombrios, Apollo (he is mostly Ouranic, like, sun and stuff) or Aphrodite Acraea.
Similarly, we tend to use things going down to reach the Chthonic (Underworld) gods/aspects. Namely; Hades, Persephone, (in winter/autumn i guess??) Hermes Psychopomp. Examples to how to make things go down, to offer libations (pouring drinks/grains/etc to earth) or to bury sacrifices.
"Additionally, worshippers lowered their palms and faced them downwards toward the earth and underworld, in the direction of the chthonic gods.
The goal of chthonic worship was to interact with gods beneath the earth so offerings were directed toward the ground to reach these deities. For this reason, incense was not used in Chthonic worship as the smoke would rise upwards rather than downwards. Wine was not utilized in this form of worship, but instead honey was a common libation used."
(Oh and does anyone know why it is saying that wine is not used?)
On honey tho:
"In Ancient Greece, one of the (many) reasons bees were associated with the Underworld was because they could often be found inhabiting cracks and crevices in rocks. These cracks and crevices were thought to lead into the Underworld: the domain of many chthonic gods and goddesses such as Persephone, Hekate, Rhea, Gaia and others." 🐝
Anyways… The thing that I was trying to say, maybe the wishes made in dreams are more potent? Honey for thought. 🌸

Völuspá, Retold
Spirit breatheth Odin
Mind giveth Hoenir
Blood shareth Lodur
Another excellent job, spake Odin
Three about to leave
I’ll catch up thee, saith Lodur
I have to pee
Leaves Odin and Hoenir
Heaves a sigh, Loki
Finally
See guys, he says
My love language is
Follows a snap of fingers
Giving gifts
Sets a flame on their timber
Once cold, now an everlasting ember
His voice is warm like honey
Our little secret, aye?
I saw what happened to the last guy
Who gave some fire to your kind
Sighs
Go now, have some fun
Be great, be terrible
Saith the firebringer
His eyes are warm like amber
Gifts a wink and disappear

“The hearer must be of one mind with the speaker, my son, and of one spirit as well; he must have hearing quicker than the speech of the speaker.”
-Hermes Trismegistus, Hermatica
“If then you do not make yourself equal to God, you cannot apprehend God; for like is known by like.
Think that for you too nothing is impossible; deem that you too are immortal, and that you are able to grasp all things in your thought, to know every craft and science; find your home in the haunts of every living creature; make yourself higher than all heights and lower than all depths;
But if you shut up your soul in your body, and abase yourself, and say “I know nothing, I can do nothing; I am afraid of earth and sea, I cannot mount to heaven; I know not what I was, nor what I shall be,” then what have you to do with God?”
-Hermes Trismegistus, Hermetica
***I don’t think Hermes and Thoth are the same gods, rather they are besties who vibe well and wrote books together.
And maybe Hermes Trismegistus (Hermes Thrice-Great) is not just a fusion/collaboration of two deities, but a trio. A trio of Hermes, Thoth and you. Thrice-great.
They said “If then you do not make yourself equal to God, you cannot apprehend God; for like is known by like.” in the Hermetica.
They already say if you wish to understand the wisdom of them, you need to think yourself as a god as well. For like is known by like. As above, so below, if you will.
Then you can share their wisdom. And be the Hermes Trimegistus.
Kharis Hermes! Dua Thoth! Hail me!
Disclaimer: Just some late night thoughts.

Your mind is not a maze, it is a labyrinth.
“The maze wasn’t meant for you.”
And the goal is not to get out, it is to get in.
You are not spiraling out, you are only spiraling in.
It is not a monster waiting in the center, it is you.
“I will find a center in you.”
You don’t need any threads like Ariadne did.
You will never be lost,
As long as you keep going.

Me: Loki, why did you take your mother’s name?
Loki: Let’s see, Loki Laufeyjarson sounds smoother than Loki Farbautison. Eh?
Maaaybe I just wanted to be controversial and mock a tradition I don’t like.
Oh, maybe I loved my mother dearly.
Or maybe, you are not the only child who was abandoned, when they needed their father the most.
Most possibly? A mix of everything above, like all the good answers tend to be.

I've heard everything

I'm into it”

They tried to shut my mouth
They said no more the silver tongue
Now even my lips are adorned with silver
Look at me my dear
And tell me I don’t look even shinier
They chained me down
My my
It happens to the best of us
But trust me honey
I am better than the best
I am the sly son of Laufey
And the daughter of Farbauti
I shook their world to the ground
Even though I am still bound
Who is to say you cannot?
When you have me at your side
Do not fret that easily
Because every chain explodes at infinity
It turns out lions are also cats
And they can be pretty loud
I burned the world hot and sweet
And throw a party at the end of it
Because anyone saying it’s not worth it
Is either dull or lying through their teeth
Worlds ended many times at the night
And began again in the morning
At least that’s what they say
I have seen it
I am the flame-haired, trickiest trickster
A shameless bastard and the world-breaker
I survived every apocalypse I’ve ever been
Just like you did
So chin up kiddo
My children are not known for their love of chains
But for their grand escape and Hel-raising
