The goal of this UMass Lowell AIGA Student Group is to get students involved in the local design community, create a community of their own and help students build leadership skills that will be valuable as they move into the professional world.

Why I Love Design
The pictures above are from the AIGA BoNE Show (Best of New England). Six months ago I would have cried curled up into a ball and try to change my major. I didn’t really understand what design was. I thought it was making images using photoshop that’s why I went to college, but there so much more in depth and beauty. But today I was inspired and I remembered why I didn’t quit design when my world came crashing down.
Design is revolutionary. And I mean that literally. 360 degrees. Nothing is new, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a complete blast. I saw so much that was do-able. If one just pays attention you can become an expert in design and marketing. Pay attention to trends and articles, read blogs and take notes. We’ve done white-space, clean cut, minimal, and then we’ve gone in the complete opposite direction where ever thing is loaded with something. Things are on slants, we broke the grid and not its sitting on the ground. It is limitless. And it is so cool when one realizes that.
I love design because I love plans. I love things that fit neatly and that starts at face value and plunges into clever meanings and concepts, but I love to say fuck you I do what I want and the concepts become more abstract and the form takes the lead over the function. I’ve posted a few of my favorite artists that were in the show. I hope to get in next year if AIGA Boston will have me, but until then I will write and create and be inspired by the home grown talent.
