Being pro-paraphilia, to me at least, isn't about encouraging people to become pedophiles or zoophiles (not that I even think that's possible), nor supporting abuse, nor is it about supporting the idea that all paraphiles need therapy and should aim to get rid of their paraphilias. It's about being against shame and self-hate and repression.

I think paraphiles should definitely get therapy if they need it, for example if they feel they'll harm someone, but not every paraphile needs therapy. Anyone with any paraphilia, yes even the bad scary ones, can know that abuse is wrong.

And paraphiles shouldn't be forced to keep their fantasies or attractions private. There is no getting rid of paraphilias, there's only repression. I support paraphiles being able to be open about their attraction to get help if they need to. If a pedophile feels like they're going to harm children but feels like they cannot be open about it, they may not be able to get the help they need.

I also support paraphiles being able to be open just because. Hiding a part of yourself can be horrible and isolating, especially if the part you're hiding is important to you or is a big part of who you are.

Being pro-paraphilia doesn't automatically mean being pro-abuse. And telling paraphiles that they should be ashamed and hide or 'get rid of their attractions is not the great help you think it is. Repressing paraphilias doesn't make them go away and doesn't make you any less likely to harm anyone.

Accept them and learn how to live with them.
