chocolate & kisses on the cheek

remus lupin x reader ⏾ 1.8k
summary: remus had long established a routine of meeting you after class with a chocolate bar he unfailingly carried, only to learn, almost a year into your relationship, that you actually despise chocolate.
warnings: mentions of food aversion, remus is so fucking in love, tooth-rotting fluff, remus mentioned to be taller than reader, emotional moments, mild disappointment, lighthearted teasing, no major triggers.
authors note: this was actually sent as a request, but i couldn't find it in my inbox at all ;( masterlist
Remus truly, utterly felt betrayed.
It was as though he had been struck—swiftly and unforgivingly—by the revelation, as though the world he had so tenderly built around the small, consistent gestures of love had been rendered false in a single breath.
For nearly the entirety of your relationship, he had offered you a bar of chocolate nearly every day, without fail, drawn from the stack he perpetually kept within his satchel or coat pocket. It had become his ritual; his quiet devotion.
And you, his incomparably lovely girl, had always received it with such radiant warmth: a smile that could rival the sun’s gentlest rays, a kiss to his cheek that left him flustered still, even a year into the comfort of your love.
You would unwrap the chocolate bar with familiar eagerness and take a bite, your laughter trailing behind you as you walked toward your next class.
That was all it took for Remus to make certain he never left his dormitory without a piece tucked away—because the joy that bloomed across your face whenever you beamed “Thank you, Remmy,” before pressing your lips to his cheek, was nothing short of a reward in itself.
To him, that small exchange was a thread that stitched itself into the very fabric of your love story.
Which is why, now, standing across from Lily Evans in the quiet corner of the library, Remus could scarcely process the words she had just spoken.
He stared at her, lips parted, his expression caught somewhere between disbelief and silent injury. His voice, when it returned to him, was low and flat. “She hates chocolate?”
The words felt blasphemous, treacherous, as they escaped his mouth.
Lily gave him a look that balanced both sympathy and exasperation, as if she had long anticipated this moment and dreaded being the one to deliver it. "I’m sorry, Remus. I thought you knew. Honestly, I assumed you’d figured it out by now."
He shook his head slowly, brows drawn in quiet confusion. "No, no, that makes absolutely no sense. She eats it all the time. I give it to her every day, Lily!"
"Yes, Remus," Lily said gently, her tone soft but firm, "because she doesn’t want to hurt your feelings. She knows how much it means to you."
Remus stared at her for a long moment, and something subtle but significant shifted behind his eyes. "But I only ever gave it to her because I thought it made her happy."
"It does," Lily replied, placing a careful hand on his arm. "Because you gave it to her. Not because of what it was."
Remus looked past Lily, eyes unfocused, his thoughts spiraling.
He tried to recall every moment. Every time he had handed you a bar of chocolate with a gentle smile and a kiss to the temple. Every time you had taken it with a thank-you and a laugh, like it made you happy. It had felt like something sacred between you. He had always thought it was.
"How long have you known?"
"Since forever?" Lily said carefully, watching him. "Everyone knows Y/N hates chocolate, Remus. I thought you did too."
Remus exhaled, a slow and disbelieving sound. He pressed a hand to his mouth as if to ground himself. And then, faintly, as though speaking more to the universe than to her, he murmured, "I have been feeding her tiny instruments of misery every morning like clockwork, and she accepted it with grace I did not deserve."
Lily smiled, but her eyes were soft with understanding. "That’s love, Remus, and it goes both ways. But maybe next time… ask what her favourite treat is."
He gave a faint, breathless laugh, still trying to reconcile the odd ache blooming in his chest. "I will. Merlin, I will."
Which is how Remus, now two days later, found himself back in routine, standing just outside your arithmancy classroom with his hands tucked into the pockets of his trousers, waiting for you.
The hallway smelled like parchment and ink and something faintly sweet from the kitchens, and when you emerged—laughing at something one of your friends said—Remus stood a little straighter.
Your eyes found him instantly, bright and warm as ever, and you gave him that smile, the one that always made his chest feel too full.
"Hey, dovey," he murmured as you reached him, wrapping an arm around your shoulder in a quick hug. "How was your day?"
You beamed, already beginning to ramble as the two of you started walking down the corridor, hands laced. "It was so boring in the morning, but then Slughorn paired me with Mary for the new potion, and we actually didn’t mess it up for once. And oh, you know that weird Ravenclaw boy who always brings pickles to class? He—"
God, Remus had never been more in love.
He let you talk, content to let the sound of your voice wash over him like sunlight through a window on a cold morning. Your fingers stayed laced with his, as you gently swung your joined hands back and forth in that familiar rhythm you always slipped into when you were truly happy.
In that moment, with your laughter filling the space between you, Remus was especially happy to know that you were happy with him.
You suddenly paused mid-sentence and looked up at him with a soft frown. "Wait—what about you, Rem? How are you? Does your knee still hurt?"
His heart tugged at the way you remembered. He gave your hand a squeeze and shook his head. "No, love, it’s alright. I wrapped it up this morning. Feels much better today."
"Good," you said, then smiled when he reached into his satchel.
He pulled out a neatly wrapped little bar and offered it to you. "Brought you something."
Your eyes lit up at first, the way they always did when he gave you something, but then you blinked, taking the bar from his hand.
“This wrapping looks… different,” you said curiously, turning it over. “Did you change the chocolate brand?”
Remus didn’t say anything at first. He just watched you, his expression soft as ever, fondness written in every line of his face.
You unwrapped the bar, expecting the familiar scent of cocoa, but instead—
"Wait—this is caramel?" you said, sniffing.
"Mhm." he hummed, the sound low and pleased.
You looked up at him like he’d just handed you a puzzle you weren’t expecting. “Since when do you get caramel?”
He just smiled, slipping his hands into his coat pockets as he leaned a little closer, shoulder brushing yours with that casual, familiar ease that always made your heart skip.
“Thought I’d switch it up,” he said lightly, like it was nothing — even though, from the way he glanced sideways at you, it clearly wasn’t nothing at all.
You took a slow bite, still suspicious, but your eyebrows rose as soon as the caramel hit your tongue. “Oh! Wait—this is actually… really, really good.”
Remus turned his head just enough to catch your reaction, a satisfied smile playing on his lips. “I had a feeling you’d think so.”
You narrowed your eyes at him, lips twitching. “You’re being weird.”
“Am I?” he asked, all innocence and wide-eyed mischief.
You nudged him lightly with your elbow, the wrapper still in your other hand. “A little.”
He laughed under his breath, then reached over to gently swipe a bit of caramel from the corner of your mouth with his thumb. The touch was warm and brief, but it made your breath catch just slightly.
“So,” he murmured, “does that mean I should make a permanent switch to caramel?”
Truthfully, Remus had sworn to himself he’d never let you near chocolate. Especially now, with the knowledge Lily had casually dropped like a grenade two days ago, everything made horrifying sense. The way you’d force a smile, the slight wince you tried to hide, the polite little nod as you bit into something you clearly couldn’t stand.
But you were also you. And so, despite that little white lie he was keeping tucked behind a caramel-flavored peace offering, he couldn’t help teasing you anyway.
You rambled before you could stop yourself. “I mean—I don’t mind anything from you, obviously. I just think the caramel’s a really nice change from the chocolate, y’know? But of course I’d love whatever you gave me. Really. I just think this one is, like, such a good choice, Rem.”
Remus blinked in surprise, then laughed—an unrestrained, genuine sound that rose before he could stop it. His heart pulled tight in his chest, aching in that soft, familiar way it always did around you.
Because of course, even now, even with your clear dislike for chocolate, you’d still accept it if it came from him.
You’d eat something you couldn’t stand just to make him happy. You’d sweeten your words, cover the truth in kindness, and act like it didn’t bother you at all.
And here you were now, flustered and stammering and still trying to be gentle about the switch, just in case it hurt his feelings.
He looked at you like you were the most precious thing on earth. “Well then,” he said softly, “I guess caramel it is, dovey.”
You brightened immediately, smiling so wide it made Remus feel like he could float.
You stood on your tiptoes without thinking, pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Thank you, Remmy!”
And as always, he blushed.
Truth be told, Remus didn’t mind carrying two different bars in his pockets now—chocolate for himself, caramel for you. Because in the end, he still got his soft little “thank you, remmy,” still earned his daily kiss on the cheek, and—most of all—he still got to watch you smile like he’d hung the stars just for you.
Yeah. The switch was definitely worth it, if only to become a blushing mess over you all over again.

⋆𐙚 compass 𖥻 percy jackson x fem!reader
... long distance is hard, especially for percy when his girlfriend can't be with him for his birthday.
Percy has been moody all week. He knows it. Everybody knows it. Ever since his girlfriend told him she won't be able to make it to his birthday, he has been either scolding at everyone that looks at him for anything more than a second or just simply moping around campus.
See, he understands why she can't make it. After all, that's what he had signed up for when he agreed to have a long distance relationship after it was clear that that was the only way to make the relationship work as they took different paths for college.
He knows it isn't her fault that she has a big test coming on friday, and of course she can't possibly make it to New York in time for his birthday. He knows. And he understands.
But that doesn’t stop him from missing her.
And it only becomes even worse when she's suddenly so busy studying and preparing for the test the days prior to it, that she barely has time for facetime calls or even texts. Percy feels like he's truly going insane.
So who can blame him if today he isn't having a good birthday morning at all?
She hasn't even texted, and even though she previously promised to call when she has some free time, Percy feels on edge having to go throut the entire morning without even getting a birthday text.
Which is why he's now grumpily walking to his dorm, it's his free period and he had planned on just sitting around waiting for a text from her to come, but instead Grover sent him to look for the homework he forgot because apparently he can't get out of class to get it himself.
On his way, some people congratulate him on his birthday and he tries to be as polite as he can by mumbling a few thanks and smiling politely. Yet, he has a scold on his face when he finally stands in front of the door to his dorm.
But when he reaches for the knob, something fels... off.
The door opens easily when he turns the knob, and Percy blinks in confusion. He's sure he had locked the door this morning. Stepping inside cautiously, he immediately notices a difference.
The blinds are half-closed, sunlight filtering in warmly, and the air smells faintly of... lavender? No. her perfume. His heart stutters in his chest as his eyes dart around the room, he's convinced he's missing her so much that he's probably making things up.
The homework Grover had so urgently texted about is nowhere to be seen. Instead, Percy's desk that's usually buried under books and empty snack bags, has been cleared off, the books neatly organized in a stack and there, on top of the stack, it's a post-it with a handwriting he knows all too well:
'Make a wish, Perce'
He's about to reach for the note, his hands shaking slightly, when he hears her soft voice behind him. "So are you going to stand there or are you going to blow the candle?"
Percy's frozen in place, his heart racing. For a second, he thinks his brain might be messing with him, but he turns around anyway, because he needs to confirm it's real.
And there she is: holding a cupcake with blue frosting and a candle burning on top of it, the same loving smile she puts on only for him.
He immediatly drops his bag and crosses the room in three quick steps, his hands cupping her face as he kisses her like she'd vanish if he let go. The cupcake wobbles dangerously between them, and she's forced to pull back before it all ends up in chaos.
"You're going to catch yourself on fire." she swats his arm lightly, moving the cupcake away from him, but Percy only steps closer as if she has a magnetic pull on him.
"I really don't care" He replies, leaning to give her another peck. "You're here. Actually here."
She gives him a soft smile. "I managed to convince my proffesor to let me take the test early. I wanted to surprise you."
For a heartbeat all Percy can do is simply stare in awe. "You— how long have you been here?"
"Long enough to clean your desk." She tips her chin towards the tidy surface. "By the way, the 'urgent' homework Grover needed was a lie. He said you'd help because you're a total pushover."
Percy lets out a breathy laugh. "I can't believe you're actually here."
"Make a wish." She reminds him, lifting the cupcake between them until the flame is reflected in his eyes.
He doesn’t even have to think twice, he shuts his eyes and wishes for the same thing he's been wishing every night he has to spend in a dorm that never feels quite like home: let us have time. Not a miracle. Not something out of this world. Just time with his favorite person.
He blows the flame and she cheers like they aren't in a dorm with thin walls and a RA that already hates Percy just down the hall. Once she sets the cupcake down on his desk, Percy is already pulling her close again, arms around her waist, almost lifting her off the floor.
"You didn’t text." He reminds her, jokingly grumpy. "That's cruel."
"I wanted to so bad." She admits, tilting her head back to meet his gaze. "But I had to commit to the bit. I wanted to surprise you. Everyone told me you had been grumpy."
"Okay, that's slander."
And there it is: Her laugh, Gods, Percy wants to commit that laugh to memory and repeat it over and over again in his head like a broken record.
"Sit, I brought more than a cupcake." She gently guides him to sit on his bed.
Only then does Percy notices everything around him, some bags with blue tissue paper peeking out of them sitting beside him in his bed, a takeout bag on top of Grover's desk, his closet half-open with her suitcase inside, some blue fairy lights hanging on top of his bed.
"How did you managed to do all this?" He asks, still surprised. "...When?"
"Like an hour ago, I had to bribe your RA but after that, it went smoothly." She explains, sitting down beside him. "And Grover helped too, but he's very bad at keeping secrets, I'm sure half his class knows that his roomate is getting surprised today."
Percy smirks. "Well, they get to know I have the best girlfriend ever."
"Okay" She announces, reaching for the first bag beside them. "Gift time."
Percy takes it from her and immediately starts to pull the blue tissue paper out of it, as excited as a little kid opening christmas presents, he reaches inside and pulls a blue hoodie— except it's not only a blue hoodie, but it also has their initials embroidered where his heart is supposed to be.
"Did you make this?" He asks, his breath has been taken away once again.
She simply shrugs. "Had to watch a couple youtube videos to get it right, do you like it?"
"Are you kidding?" Percy laughs softly. "This is the best present ever, sweetheart, I'll use it every day."
"Don't get ahead of yourself, we still have some other gifts." She jokes, now she pulls a box with a blue ribbon on top to give it to him.
Percy is so incredibly careful pulling the ribbon off, because he knows he'll want to save it later, but finally he opens the lid of the box to take a peek inside where a golden compass is waiting for him.
He looks at the inside of the box for a second more, and then he looks at her, and then back at the box again. Like he truly can't believe this is his life.
"Come on, take it out." She urges him, too excited to try and be patient.
Percy laughs, finally taking the compass out of the box, and when he finally has it on his hands and turns it around, he finally notices that it's engraved.
'No matter where life takes us, I'll always find my way back to you.'
"It's beautiful." He says, thumb rubbing over the engraved message.
"So you always have a way to find me." She says, voice soft. "Even when it's far."
He swallows, emotions crowding his throat. "You're gonna make me cry on my birthday. That's illegal."
She leans in and kisses him slow, like she has all the time in the world reserved only for him. And for once, Percy believes it. When they part, she pushes the hoodie into his hands.
"Try it on?" She asks, voice barely a whisper that stays in between them.
He pulls it over his head, the fabric soft and warm, their embroidered initials resting just above his heart, exactly where they belong. The compass sits on his nightstand as he threads his fingers through hers, tugging on her hand to pull her close.
"Stay with me?" He asks, voice vulnerable, as if he fears she's going to vanish in any second
"Always." She answers, and it's the easiest promise she'll ever make.
They curl up on his small bed, her head resting on his chest, ear just over his heartbeat, his nose buried in her hair that smells like coming home. The cupcake waits on his desk, the blue tissue paper falling on the floor, blue lights glowing softly above them, and the compass ticking like a gentle reminder: They have found their way to each other once again.
"Happy birthday." She murmurs.
"Best one." He breathes, eyes closed and a smile on his face. "We've got time."

⋆𐙚 blue gummies 𖥻 jason grace
Jason figures it out the way he figures out most things about her— quietly watching.
She loves sour gummies, he knows this, but after a while he quickly notices the way she eats them: blue first, then when the bag runs out of them, she looks disappointed, sometimes even sighs before going for the other colours.
By the third time it happens, she complains about it. "They only put like, eight blue ones in there." She says, wrinkling her nose. "Why won't they sell a whole bag of just blue gummies? the others taste weird anyways."
Jason doesn’t really think they're that different in taste, but he still nods like he just learned a big, important fact about her.
She forgets about it by dinner, but Jason doesn’t. He's determined.
It takes him two days and five bags of gummies, but he finally shows up at her cabin with a crinkling nose behind his back and the most suspicious looking smile on his face.
"Whatcha got there?" She tries to take a peek behind his back, but Jason hides it quickly.
"Nothing illegal." He replies, going to sit beside her on her bed.
Then he suddenly produces a ziplock bag packed with only blue gummies. Not a single yellow, no green, no red— just a ridiculous amount of blue sour gummies.
"Jason how did you—" Her jaw drops, and she's so surprised she can't even finish her sentence.
"I bought a few bags." He shrugs, offering the bag to her.
She takes it, still looking at him like he's gone crazy. "How many is a few?"
"Five." Jason replies. "You were right, they don't put as many blue as the other colors."
"And you sorted them? By hand?"
"Had a whole system, and then Leo happily ate the other ones. Very efficient." Jason shrugs again like it's nothing at all.
She blinks at him, then starts laughing, and Jason can swear his heart grows bigger every time he hears that laugh. "You're unbelievable."
"You like the blue ones." He says simply, as if that's the only explanation needed. "So you deserve a bag of only blue ones."
"it didn’t even cross my mind you would notice that." She looks down at the gummies, her heart racing.
"I notice everything about you." he replies without missing a beat.
She leans to kiss his cheek. "Thank you, Jase."
Jason clears his throat, his ears pink. "Don't mention it."
But when she finally bites into one of the blue gummies and smiles, he knows he would go through every single bag of gummies to find every blue one if that's what it takes to keep that smile on her face.

◟𖥻 buzzing love : percy jackson
▰▰ pairing: percy jackson x fem!reader
Percy is often busy but he looks for ways to reassure his love to her, his favorite one lately is coming back from quests with stuffed animals.
mari talking! oh i hate this but i needed to write something and i want someone to buy jellycats for me, so 😓

Percy's always busy with camp related things, he's always training or helping grover with the new demigods or going on quests. People look for him when they need help. Safe to say, he doesn’t have too much free time during the day.
But that doesn’t stop him from showing his girlfriend how much he loves her, even being so busy, he doesn’t want her ever doubting his love for her.
So he's always planning dates, rushing his activities to make some more time to spend with her, being so incredibly clingy after every quest, hugging and kissing her every time he gets. And if people are sick of their PDA, no one says anything, at least not to Percy's face.
They're having a picnic and Percy has his head resting in her lap, her fingers carding through his hair while she shares a story about her time in new york before coming to camp this summer.
"And my aunt didn’t notice that I stopped so she kept walking and left me there." she tells Percy, and when he raises an eyebrow in that protective way of his, she quickly adds, "Totally not my fault, love, you should've seen that store. Of couse I would get distracted."
"What were they selling?" He asks, always indulging her to talk more. Gods, he loves when she talks.
"Jellycats." When he looks at her confused, she giggles. "Stuffed animals, but like the cutest stuffed animals ever, Perce. I swear. Too bad I didn’t have too much money on me, because I would've brought one."
That's it. She doesn't have to tell him twice. Because Percy already knows he'll be coming back with a jellycat next time.
⋆𐙚 albee bee
She has been feeling down ever since Percy and Grover had to go look for some demigod kid spotted in New York. She's sure no one has noticed, because she keeps mostly to herself the whole time.
After training, she goes back directly to her cabin and curls in her bed, hugging a pillow. Is she being dramatic? Yes, does she miss Percy? Yes.
But it's not only about Percy, this time she's also feeling down because she feels insecure. It's difficult not to feel that way when she can see how Chiron sends Annabeth or even Clarisse to these quests with the boys without even hesitating, yet she's never chosen for it. She doesn't feel like a proper demigod.
And she doesn't tell Percy, of couse, because she thinks she's ridiculous for even feeling this way. But she's sure he still knew something was wrong when he came to say goodbye two days ago.
And now, she's down and he's not even around to hug her and make her feel better. He's not supposed to come back until tomorrow.
Except that suddenly, her cabin's door opens, and she thinks it's one of her siblings until she feels her mattress sink with a new weight. "Hi, love, you awake?"
His voice is barely a whisper, but that's enough for her to immediately sit up to look at him with widened eyes. When she finally realizes he's not some fantasy out of her dreams, she jumps into his arms.
Percy chuckles, his arms wrapping around her waist to hold her close. "Hey, pretty girl." he mumbles as he presses a kiss on her temple. "I heard you've been feeling down lately."
"I thought you weren't supposed to come back until tomorrow?" she asks, pulling back slightly only to look at his face and smile brightly.
"Yes, but we found the boy earlier than expected. Thankfully before the monsters found him, too." he tells her, his hand pushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "I just had to make a stop in the way to surprise you with this."
He keeps one hand around her waist while his other hand reaches to pull something from behind him, and he holds it up to her. A bee stuffed animal. The cutest bee stuffed animal.
"You told me you wanted one of those jellycats." he explains, and her heart skips a beat. "And this little guy reminded me of you. Bees are small, yeah, but they're powerful. They make the world brighter, just by being in it. Just like you."
She almost feels like crying as she grabs the bee and hugs it to her chest, looking at the tag hanging from it. "It's named Albee." She mumbles, then looks back at Percy with tears in her eyes. "Thank you so much, Perce, it's perfect."
"Anything for you, love." he replies fondly.
⋆𐙚 storm octopus
Percy has been too busy lately, he feels pulled in eight different directions with camp duties, quests, training, new campers and prophecies. Normally, he wouldn't mind.
Except that this has meant that he doesn’t get as much time with her as he would like. He knows she understands, she always does. But still, he doesn’t like it.
That's when he gets Storm the octopus. Yes, maybe he had to sneak out of camp with Blackjack to go buy it, but it's totally worth it.
She's totally worth it.
So later that night, when she's resting on his bed, he suddenly pulls the octopus plushie. "Got this one for you today."
She looks at the plushie, then back at Percy, and he almost chuckles at the surprise in her eyes as she reaches for the blue octopus. "How did you even managed to get this?"
"You already know how easy it's to bribe Blackjack." He shrugs, grinning. "And before you scold me, please let me tell you why I got it."
"Okay, enlighten me." She rolls her eyes fondly, hugging the octopus.
"You know, sometimes everyone needs so much from me that I feel like I need to stretch myself or have eight arms to help everyone." He sits at the edge of his bed, reaching to pull her close to him. "But you're still the center of everything. Every part of me reaches for you. I could have eight arms and every single one would yearn to hug you at the end of the day."
This time, she almost drops the octopus when she suddenly lunges to kiss Percy. "I love you so much." she tells him, eyes full of love.
"I love you so much more, sweetheart." He replies against her lips before pulling away, grinning. "So, how do we feel about Storm? Did you see it's blue? How cool is that?"
⋆𐙚 Persimmon dragon
She gets injured during capture the flag. Percy hates that he was not there to protect her. He hates that he only finds out via iris call while on his quest. And he hates that he's not around to take care of her while she has to rest because of her ankle.
He has made up his mind to find out whoever it was that hurt his girl and maybe make that person regret it. But he knows she'll probably won't appreciate him getting all over protective.
And there’s nothing much he can do being so far away from camp, anyways.
But when it's time for him to go back, he knows what he has to do. Which is why he shows up with a dragon. Well, a dragon plushie anyways.
"Percy, that thing is huge!" She gasps softly, still on bed rest, a cast on her feet.
"Only the best for you, pretty girl." He replies simply, placing the large white dragon beside her.
Percy takes a seat at the edge of the bed, being careful with her as he reaches to push some hair from her face. "I'm so sorry I wasn't here to protect you, love."
"It's okay, Perce, you had important things to do." She smiles at him softly. "No big deal."
But Percy frowns at her words. "You are the most important thing for me." He cups her face and leans to press a kiss on her forehead. "This is why I got you this one."
He takes the dragon to show it to her, she giggles softly, taking it from his hands.
"You didn’t have to." But she's already smiling as she hugs the dragon close to her.
And that smile is everything to Percy. Nothing else matters but that smile.
"I absolutely had to, are you kidding?" He replies in an overly dramatic tone. "You deserve to have a dragon to protect you when i'm not around. A fierce, loyal, brave dragon. Just like the girl I fight for."
The girl he fights for. That's what she'll always be.
⋆𐙚 ricky rain frog
This has been the longest week for Percy, Grover and him had to take a roadtrip to Buffalo to look for some Demigod kid one of the satyrs had located around there.
The catch? The kid had apparently ran off from school and he didn’t come home. They had been following him around New York with absolutely no luck.
And each passing day he missed her more than the one before. So, when they finally managed to get to the kid just before a monster got to him first, Percy was only thrilled about coming back to her.
He barely made it through the whole debriefing with Chiron before he was running through camp, looking for her. He tried her cabin first, but there was no one there. Then the pavilion— still no luck.
Percy's getting desperate until he hears the sounds of swords clashing near the arena. He rounds the corner, and there she is.
It seems that she's finishing her training, the tip of her sword lowered as she caught her breath, with a practice flick she guided her sword into the scabbard at her side, some strands of hair sticking to her sweaty face.
And then he's running. Not walking. Running past the other campers, straight to her. She barely has any time to react before he's kissing her— hands cupping her race like he's afraid she might disappear if he lets go. It's messy, and full of love, and so very Percy, his sea-salt scent invading her senses as he mumbles a soft, "Gods, I missed you" into her lips.
She lets out a breathless giggle. "You didn’t tell me you were coming back today."
"Surprise?" He smiles, pressing a soft kiss to her cheek, then another into the tip of her nose, and another just below her jaw, almost like he's making up for lost time. "Speaking of surprises."
He barely pulls back, enough to pull the frog jellycat from his backpack. This one is his favorite one: a grumpy-looking green frog.
She snorts as she takes it from him. "Why is he so grumpy?"
"This frog is how i've felt this whole week." He grins, leaning to press another kiss to her lips before he keeps talking. "All sad without your kisses."
"You're so dramatic." She giggles against his lips, her cheeks red.
"Not dramatic at all, love, I've been feeling like that frog the whole week." Percy replies, his hands coming down to the back of her neck to pull her to him again.
He's kissing her like a man starved, as if he hasn't seen her in years, which is how he felt even if it was only a week. "But now that I have the princess' kisses, I'm back to being okay."
She could tell him he's being ridiculous, but before she can even process his words, he suddenly lunges forward to claim her lips with his again. And the frog almost falls off her hands.

The next one, she finds it on her bed, nestled against her pillows like it has always belonged there.
There’s no note left with it, and Percy definitely didn’t explain it at all. It's simply... there. Just two plush red hearts locked with each other, their little stitched smiles are ridiculously cheerful.
And she knows the context before Percy even has the time to explain it.
Yet, she still asks when he comes into her cabin moments later. "What's this one for? was there a holiday or quest I missed?"
He shrugs, sitting on her bed beside her to press a kiss to her cheek with a loud mwah. "Do I need a reason to buy something nice for my beautiful girlfriend? I think not."
But there’s always an explanation. Always. And she knows there’s one to this because of the silly smile on his face.
He can barely contain his mystery act for some seconds more before he finally explains, "I just saw it and it reminded me of us. You know, always attached but happy."
She hugs it to her chest. "So it's us."
"Yes, love, it's us." He nods, smiling brightly. "Always destined to be together. Locked in."
And it's perfect. There’s no more explanation for it.
⋆𐙚 extra: amuseables diamond ring
years later.
It's late when she gets home, grocery bag on her hip while she unlocks the door to their apartment. The lights are off, and there's no signs of Percy anywhere, she thinks it means that he's probably running late.
Still, she tries, "Percy?" but there’s no answer. Only silence.
But she doesn't think much of it as she leaves the groceries in the counter and walks into their bedroom.
It takes her a moment to realize, distracted while taking her shoes off, but it's only when she looks up that she notices something's... off.
Their bed is covered. Crowded. With every jellycat he has ever given her. The bee, the dragon, the frog and octopus, the hearts, the ones from the flowers collection he had given her over the years, every single one she has gotten from him for christmas or random holidays. Even that bunny bag charm that she always carries with her on her bag.
Every single one, arranged carefully on top of the comforter, creating a perfect circle.
And in the middle of that circle, there’s one she doesn’t recognize right away. Not until she takes a step closer and realizes— it's a ring.
A smiley, sparkling, ring plushie propped up. Like it's simply part of the collection. But she knows she didn’t have that one before. She knows.
Her shaky hand flies to her mouth, and she looks around as if she's half expecting it to be some kind of joke. But no. She knows what this is.
Finally, she spins around and— there he is. Leaning against the doorframe in a way that doesn’t seem casual at all, his arms behind his back, looking at her like she's the only thing worth looking at in the whole universe.
His voice is a little shaky, a giddy but nervous smile on his face. "So," He nods towards the bed. "Want me to explain the new plushie too? Because I kinda have a question that sums it all up."
Her laugh is slightly choked as she nods, her eyes full of tears.
And he drops to one knee, pulling out the real ring.
