It took me some time but I think I finally figured out what helps me stay happy with my art and what works and doesn't work for me so I have some tips that may be obvious to some but maybe helpful to others in case you ever felt unhappy with your art:

I often felt stuck in my own art style as it was too polished and restrictive in some ways. I felt the need to finish my drawings in a specific way to keep them consistent and it became the pattern that was taking away all the joy of creating new art for me so now I try to have a little bit more fun with what brush I use, how I use it, with how I do lineart (sometimes I don't) and how I render

I experiment with different brushes instead of only using one and the same all the time so my brain doesn't feel like it's in a cage

with each drawing I feel like I work against time as I get bored with what I draw quite fast and as my current interests change pretty often. I must finish drawings quickly but my perfectionism doesn't allow it since every drawing I make still NEEDS to be perfect and it only brings me more stress so I need to remind myself that

SKETCH IS A FINISHED DRAWING!

I don't need to make a perfect line art, the coloring doesn't have to be on point every time, as long as I had fun drawing something and I'm happy with the end result that's all that really matters

warming up before drawing makes a big difference so draw some lines and circles

taking breaks is important, if you don't feel like drawing don't push yourself because that will only make things worse and you'll feel more tired and art blocked

and if you really feel like you want to draw but feel stuck/uninspired - start small with a simple sketch in a sketchbook or some doodles on a piece of paper

no step forward is too small

so don't be so harsh on yourself!

eva noblezada as eurydice in hadestown~

it’s truly been a dream seeing eva perform as eurydice. i cannot believe how different she seems on stage compared to when i saw her and reeve perform together in their concert. this whole hadestown stuff has been so fantastic but also incredibly stressful and bittersweet. there’s SO much to process, like the fact that i’m seeing someone perform that i never thought i’d get the chance to, let alone as my favourite role of hers. i’m incredibly grateful that i have gotten to see the OBC 2 times so far. but as an autistic person with a hadestown special interest, i can’t pretend it hasn’t been very hard! i love it so much that it hurts. and i’m sad because i know it won’t last forever and i feel so much pressure to make the most of every second of it. i am but it’s taking a toll on my body seeing it, like the first 2 weeks i was soo deep in the special interest, all i could do was stress about making art for them at stage door. the second time i saw it, i cried through the whole show (silently haha) agh it’s just a LOT and i love it but it’s it’s hard. it’s ironic that i got the tickets because i’m autistic and get access tickets, but i also am experiencing all these different emotions about it so intensely because .. i am autistic.

agh i’m so glad i got this done before cast change!! it took around 9 hours! it’s been such a joy to watch these 3 together (and not together) over the past year. i feel so parasocial-ly proud watching them with the OBC, absolutely killing it and i’m so glad to have that little slice of familiarity (and iconic-ness) alongside all new/old leads!

before i saw the show, i never really realised how big a part the fates were of the production and music, so they felt like entire to new characters to me. i’ll never forget allie, madeline and bella as the first 3 i ever saw! it’s been so bittersweet knowing madeline and bella will be leaving with the majority of the cast shortly, but i hope they’re all making the most of it and enjoying, what must be a really exhausting job, as much as possible! i am absolutely DYING to see allie’s hermes too but for now, i’m so glad their performances as the fates together will be captured by the proshot forever! 💜

i hope i can give them the prints i have of these next time i go! and i honestly just love that first moment when they’re introduced so much, my hands get sore from clapping haha!

today marks george harrison’s birthday! (or at least the one he celebrated iykyk) unless ur autistic, u probably won’t understand how much of ur identity and perception of the world comes from ur special interests. the beatles and specifically george harrison got me through my last year of school and sixth form college and i’ll carry those life lessons with me forever!

hadestown tattoo designs!!

been working on these for a while but got everything wrapped up in time for hadestown OBC/brainrot month!! i swear it’s all i can think about, but i hope u like these designs! i think i might do one on myself someday! pls feel free to request any other musical flash sheets!

anne frank illustration from yesterday and a section from her short story ‘flower girl’, it’s so beautiful and sad and i hope i can complete my illustrations inspired by it one day. i’ve also included an illustration from the anne frank’s diary graphic novel. when i first saw that there was a graphic novel of anne’s diary, i didn’t understand the art form and thought it minimised it, but now, it’s those illustrations i think of when i think of everything anne wanted to and couldn’t be. ik bo burnham did a joke way back about anne franks diary being published without her consent and i’m sure many other people actually believe this to be the case. but the reality was that anne intended to submit her diary to the BBC, she also loved to write and wrote many fictional stories alongside her diary. i think they are excellent and definitely recommend reading them.
