Summary: When a new Ensign takes a romantic interest in you, a new light begins to shine on the seemingly simple relationship between you and your closest friend Data.
Requests are open!
~x~
Data had always preferred working with you.
You understood the nuances of his coding and his odd personality in ways no other officer ever had. Where most would have been confused and perhaps even discomforted by his unusual behavior, you had always found it fascinating, even going so far as telling him it was charming.
“I like hearing things from your perspective. You say such wonderful things, Data.” You had laughed, bumping his elbow with your own as you and him worked for hours side by side.
You were his partner, the completing half of his equation. No one else would get the question right. He needed you, and you needed him.
“Good morning, Data.” You smiled warmly, sliding into his side as you began your shifts together as you always had, greeting him the same way you always had before, kind and soft.
“Good morning, (F/N).” He welcomed you back, cordial and quiet.
Mornings were the moments you always shared together, the small smiles and quick touches which insinuated more but never dared to be recognized aloud.
“I barely slept last night.” You sighed deeply, gently resting your head against his shoulder as your eyes fluttered shut. You reminded him of the Renaissance angels he had often seen in ancient Earth paintings. He should do a painting of you.
“Perhaps a visit to Dr. Crusher would be beneficial.” Data commented idly, refusing to move even slightly, hoping it might persuade you to keep your head buried in the crook of his neck for even a millisecond longer.
Touching you was right. Being with you was right. It was unexplainable, but it was akin to answering a complicated question correctly, or finishing a long project. It was what he had been made to do.
“Hey beautiful.” An unknown voice interrupted Data’s rampant thoughts, causing his golden eyes to flicker toward this intruder into you and his peaceful morning.
“Oh. Hey, Brad.” You slightly sighed, bowing your head politely at him before returning to your work.
“A couple of friends and I are having a party tonight at Ten Forward. I’d love for you to be there.” He grinned, his smile all teeth and his eyes shimmering a bit too brightly.
“A party in Ten Forward. I had not heard of this before now.” Data easily inserted himself into the conversation, cocking his head as he stared questioningly at the Ensign.
“Oh, uh, yeah.” Brad rubbed his neck awkwardly, clearly uncomfortable around the android. “There’ll be girls there too. If you’re even into that sort of thing…”
Data missed your eyes shooting towards his, a hopeful but anxious look dancing across your face. You had wanted to admit your feelings to your friend for months now, but your anxieties about his own feelings had always held you back. How could he possibly be interested in other people in such a way? He didn’t even have emotions.
“Tell your friends I will be there.” He smiled, over-animatedly winking as he returned to his work, a small but proud smile on his face. He needed to watch over you and make sure this Brad didn’t try anything which might make you uncomfortable. You were his partner to care for, he nodded satisfactorily within his head, as if needing to justify his abnormal behavior to himself.
You could feel your heart shatter. Data wanted to go to Brad’s stupid party? To pick up girls? You were planning on simply turning the man down and having a quiet night in, but now that Data was going…
“Well you can count me in too.” You had to force yourself to smile, fighting the urge to gag at the way Brad licked his lips and winked at your response. He sauntered away like the cat who had caught the canary, your hands itching to strangle him as you twisted back to your work station, a cheesy smile still plastered to your face.
“Are you interested in Brad sexually?” Data asked with a pleasant smile.
Your mouth fell open, your breath flooding out of you as a wild blush stained your cheeks, hot and embarrassing. You didn’t know what to say, you couldn’t even breathe!
“W-Why’s any of that your business!” You half-shouted, darting away before he could pry any deeper.
You couldn’t handle it if Data found out you were in love with him.
Ah. Data mused, each and every one of his circuits freezing on one overly-simple thought. It would appear you loved him.
~x~
You hadn’t spoken to Data all day. You were too ashamed to even consider facing him. Running away in the middle of your shift because of your personal feelings was not something a professional Starfleet officer did.
“If I may be so bold,” A familiar voice began, soft and warm in its cantor, “You are positively ravishing this evening.”
Data stood before you, an out-of-character smirk striking daringly across his face as he took your hand in his, lightly grazing his lips against your knuckles.
“Data!” You gasped, barely able to keep yourself from becoming a melted mess.
“What are we doing talking over here when we could be dancing over there?” He smirked, grabbing your waist as he pulled you by the hand towards the dance floor, a grace to his every step.
“What happened to you Data?” You asked, practically breathless.
“I downloaded some new personalities appropriate for such an event.” He dipped you low, brushing his nose against yours as he started deeply into your eyes. “Are you enjoying me?”
You couldn’t help but laugh then, carefree and dripping with affection.
You loved this man.
“Yes, Data. I always enjoy you.” You grinned, wrapping your arms around his neck right in the middle of the dance floor.
Data felt accomplished. Everything was as it should be. You were always meant to be with him, and no one else. It was just what made sense.
You were his closest friend.
“Data, there’s something I’ve always wanted to tell you, but I’ve never really been able to.” You grasped his hand tighter in yours, unable to remove your eyes from the floor.
“What is it?” He asked, patient and quiet.
“Pardon to interrupt, but I couldn’t let you keep this beauty all to yourself for the whole night.” Brad smiled confidently, bending his face closer to yours as he attempted to slide between you and Data.
Data refused to budge, pulling you closer against his body. He barely stopped himself from shoving the Ensign across the room.
What was going through his systems? The more Brad talked to you the more Data wanted to never see his face again. The closer Brad got to you the closer Data needed to be to you instead, as if to reassure himself of something.
Any smiles you afforded Brad were meant to be his. He didn’t want you to look at anyone but him.
But such thoughts could only be defined as possessiveness. Something Data knew was inappropriate for friendships.
He released you, giving you one last glance before quickly leaving Ten Forward. He couldn’t bear to see his hands on you, to see the love which would pour out of your eyes for the handsome human, something Data could never compare to.
People did not fall in love with androids.
Even as his system screamed at him to correct things, to take you in his arms and kick Brad halfway back to Earth, he refused to listen. With some simple rewiring he could set his head back on straight.
You were his friend. Somewhere along the way his pathways must have set the wrong link down, convincing himself you might be something more.
His feelings for you were nothing more than a malfunction.
You watched as Data stormed away, confused and hurt by his behavior. One moment he looked ready to clock Brad and the next he was almost throwing you at him.
Did he think you wanted the slime bag?
“He’s never not said goodbye to me.” You muttered almost to yourself, staring after your best friend.
“Maybe he just forgot to.” Brad joked, grabbing you by the hips. “Let’s stop talking about that android and start talking about us.”
You scoffed at him, harshly shoving him away as you ran after Data. You were going to tell him no matter what it took, everyone else on this ship be damned.
You eventually found him in Keiko O’Brien’s garden, his face almost forlorn as he gently caressed an orchid in full bloom.
“Data?” You asked quietly, not wishing to startle him even though you knew that was impossible.
He turned his head to yours, almost in disbelief. “Where is Brad?”
“I don’t know, he’s nobody I’m concerned about.” You stated clearly, stepping towards him. He was so tall, the way he gazed down upon you with such genuine confusion causing you to smother a giggle.
“I do not understand, but it is not a topic I wish to hear more about.” He admitted, returning to his flower.
“And why is that?” You asked hopefully, bunching your dress between your fingers.
He glanced back at you, face blank as he simply contemplated himself, the color of your hair and the look on your face enough to push him over the edge.
“Because I am malfunctioning.” He said simply, stock still as he waited for your response.
You took his hand in your own, holding it as gently as a bird as you squeezed it to your chest. “What if I told you I was malfunctioning too?”
His brows furrowed across his face. “Then we must see Dr. Crusher at once!”
Your jaw dropped, disbelief to the point of amusement dancing across your face as you watched the worry on his face slowly seep into bewilderment.
“I’m not talking about my health, Data.” You laughed, sliding your fingers against his scalp as you pressed your body flush to his. “I’m telling you I’m in love with you.”
He didn’t need to be told twice.
Before you could react he wrapped his arms tightly around your waist, pressing his lips against yours hard enough to bruise. He wanted you so badly in that moment he had forgotten to restrain himself, pressing against you fervently as he began to kiss the corner of your mouth, sucking and biting his way to your neck.
He couldn’t believe you would say such a thing to him, that you would allow him to do this. It was such a thrilling and new interaction he couldn’t get enough of it.
Without hesitation he pulled your flesh between his teeth, proudly marking you as his as he bruised your neck.
“Data…” You moaned, unable to do anything but limply hold onto him, knowing he would never let you fall.
“My (Y/N).” He whispered happily against your hickey, giving it a quick kiss, before standing back up properly, still refusing to release you from his hold.
Your whole body felt like jelly. Just from a few kisses Data had swooned you off your feet.
“You are so handsome.” You sighed, not knowing anything else to say but exactly what had been on your mind since you had first met the android.
“And you are so beautiful.” He murmured back gently, knowing he would spend the rest of his life saying those words.

True Feelings
Summary: You’ve had a crush on your fellow officer Data for years. Can you ever be sure he’d feel the same for you?
Requests are open!
~x~
“What are you doing, lieutenant?” The innocently curious android asked, his monotonic voice gentle and warm.
You smiled excitedly, beckoning him to come closer. His pale face alighted with near childish pleasure, practically skipping into your room.
“Do you like it, Data?” You giggled, unable to wipe the grin off your face as he analyzed your work.
You were in the midst of painting a heroic portrait of your fellow officer, his golden eyes staring off into the distance with his head held high and a feeling of stoicism radiating from his face.
“Yes, I like it very much. I cannot believe that is meant to be me.” His head quirked to the side, following the carefully created lines of your paint, before turning robotically to you. “Why did you do this?”
You blushed under his scrutinizing gaze, swallowing thickly as you began cleaning your brushes with unnecessary rigor. “I just think you’re… fascinating is all.”
His head cocked to the side once more, and if you didn’t know better he might have looked confused. “I see.”
“Not in a test subject way though! But more of a…” You interrupted with worry, twisting your hands in search for a word.
“Beautiful. Aesthetically pleasing. Muse-like.” He began rattling off words, as if he were reading from a dictionary. “Attractive. Sexually arousing. Erotically-“
“Okay, thank you Data!” You squeaked, scorching with embarrassment as you began to push him forcibly out of your quarters. “That’s all for today, talk to you some other time!”
“Lieutenant, what are you doing? Have I made some sort of blunder? Perhaps if you were to explain-”
You gave him a gentle shove out the door, unable to look him in the eyes. “Goodbye!”
The doors of your room slid to a close, shutting Data out somewhat comically as he stared at you in bewilderment. You dropped your head into your hands, groaning loudly as you turned to look back at your painting.
You had thought Data would simply enjoy the feeling of his image being turned into art. You hadn’t expected him to ask why you had, and you certainly hadn’t expected him to understand “sexual attraction” being a possible reason.
And it was, one thousand percent it was.
He was so handsome and strong, but intelligent and unique at the same time. Even just talking to him felt different from anyone you had ever met before. You wanted to kiss him, for him to kiss you and hold you against his chest, never letting go.
But he was an android. If you ever asked him to kiss you, or tried to kiss him first, he would more than likely simply follow along, serving you in any way he could. He wouldn’t wonder if he wanted it, or if he really wanted you, he would treat it as a duty, a job.
Being with him, you could never be sure if you were taking advantage of him or not.
Some of the officers didn’t seem to care either way. You’d heard them joking before, referring to their commanding officer as the “most intelligent toy” they’d ever seen. It made your stomach roll to think about Data being with those people.
Geordi had told you before that Data could take care of himself, but you couldn’t help but worry.
You shoved your painting into the back of your closet, sighing at your own stupidity. Data could never reciprocate your feelings, even if he wanted to.
But even as you forced yourself to say it, a small part of you shook with protest.
~x~
“Data, are you seriously telling me you don’t know?” Geordi laughed, shaking his head at his best friend. “I feel like you’re fishing for a compliment at this point.”
“How does one “fish” for a compliment?” He asked, as genuinely as only Data could.
“That’s not important. What is, is the fact that our good lieutenant began to panic only after you stated her reasons were...less than pure.” The cybernetic explained, patting his friend on the shoulder. “So using your great power of deductive reasoning?”
“Her reasoning was in fact sexual?” He asked, his eyebrows pulling tighter together in confusion. “But for who?”
Geordi slapped his palm against his forehead in frustration, groaning in anguish. “Data…”
The android felt even more confused.
~x~
“Data...No…” You murmured, reaching out for the faint figure of yellow and white in front of you.
Slowly he came into view, smiling at you in the most loving way you’d ever seen. Your heart lodged itself into your throat, melted by the depths of his eyes.
With no warning his face suddenly distorted into agony, collapsing to the ground as he screamed your name.
“Data!” You shouted, shocked and terrified all at once. You fell to his side, unable to do anything but watch as he contorted and twisted in pain.
“Please, stop!” Tears rolled down your face as your screams ripped your throat dry. You’re best friend was dying and you could do nothing.
“Lieutenant. Lieutenant, wake up!” Data’s voice interrupted you, a light shaking pulling at your shoulder.
Your eyes slammed open, glancing wildly around your bedroom as a scream began to grow within your throat, a dark silhouette rising above you.
“Are you alright?” The familiar, monotonic, wonderful voice asked you, Data’s yellow eyes coming into view as your eyes came in to focus.
You sighed his name in relief, collapsing into his chest as a sob tore through your lungs. You could feel your tears wetting his shirt but you didn’t care, you needed to be as close to him as possible.
He knelt beside you, his arms hesitating for a moment, before gently wrapping around your shoulders. You buried your nose into his neck, breathing in his scent as your fingers gently massaged his scalp.
He smelled like the Enterprise. He smelled like home.
“W-Why?” You shuddered out between breaths.
“You were calling out for me.” The android answered, perfectly understanding your vague question. You forgot about his enhanced hearing.
He didn’t say anything for a while, whether because he understood what was going on or because he didn’t, you couldn’t say.
“You died.” You whispered once you had calmed down, pressing yourself impossibly closer to him. “You were in so much pain.”
“I cannot feel pain. And I am not dead.” He stated simply.
“I know, Data. But it felt real. To me, it felt like it happened.” You explained, knowing he had never quite grasped the concept of dreams.
He nodded slowly, his hands now mimicking yours as they found their way into your hair, petting you slowly as he pulled you closer.
He had never initiated contact with you. With anyone, now that you thought about it.
Your heart beat hard enough you knew he could feel it. You had loved him for so long, to be able to touch him like this was unbelievable.
“You’re frightened.” He commented, pulling back to look at your face. “I don’t like that you’re frightened.”
Normally you would have teased him, but in the state you were in you could only hold the side of his face.
“You’re so beautiful, Data. How anyone could say you’re less than human I’ll never know.” You smiled, before slowly, gently leaning into him.
You kissed his cold cheek softly, smiling at the way he tensed, before laying back down.
Data looked like he was short-circuiting. His eyes had widened in surprise, following yours closely as you blinked tiredly.
“What was that for?” He asked, touching the place you had kissed so gently, he might have been worried he would wipe it off.
“For caring about me. For worrying about me.” You couldn’t help but smile, wiping the tears from your face. “For trying to understand my crazy human emotions.”
He shook his head, eyes gleaming with innocence. “No, it is you who understand me.”
You grinned now, grabbing his hand tightly in yours. He studied the action closely, as if logging it away for later use.
“I love you, Data.” You admitted quietly, before turning away from him. Your heart still had not called down. If anything ever happened to him in real life you’d be a wreck for days.
As you turned your head back, you gasped in surprise, the android’s lips now pressing against yours. Both of his arms had extended on either side of your head, his eyes closed in a peaceful way as his mouth moved against yours.
He brushed his nose playfully to yours, a prideful smirk spreading across his face as you finally reciprocated his affections, the shock wearing off.
He leaned his body deeper into yours, falling into your bed, before you suddenly pushed him back.
“I-I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me. I should never have-“ He began to ramble, genuine fear in his voice.
“Data, it’s more than alright. I just have to breathe.” You laughed, wider and brighter than you ever had before. You couldn’t think of a time you’d been more happy.
Data reciprocated your smile, whether because he genuinely felt happy or because he was simply mirroring your emotions, you weren’t sure.
And then the nagging doubt returned.
“Wait.” You practically moaned as he began to lick down your neck, his teeth grazing your flesh almost dominatingly.
Immediately he pulled back, his face returning to that damn, innocently curious look.
“Why are you doing this?”
“Kissing down the neck is a way to stimulate anticipation at the thought of my mouth continuing to go lower, but also a form of submission for you, as the arteries present in-“ Data began, as if he were lecturing a class on how to pleasure humans at Starfleet Academy.
“No-No, stop Data.” You shook your head at the clinical way he described that last action. “Why are you doing any of this?”
He took a moment to pause, his eyes lost in confusion as he almost pleaded for help. “I’m not sure I understand.”
You rubbed the back of your neck awkwardly, glancing between your hands and his face. “Are you doing this because you want to, or because I want you to?”
He cocked his head to the side, before a look of realization spread across his face. Instead of answering, he leaned his face closer to yours, mischief gleaming in his eyes as he pressed his lips against your ear, whispering hotly, “I have not wanted anything in my experiences as badly as I want you now.”
You stared at him, laughing in disbelief. He was so human, but still so uniquely Data.
As his soft, cold lips moved back to yours, your heart overflowed with such pure joy you could not help the tears that formed in the corner of your eyes.
Data had never felt more confused, or more in love, by this reaction in all of his life.

Just Don’t Leave Me
Summary: In the midst of training with your favorite hero, things do not end up going as planned.
(Requested by @lollipoisonpops, “I love you” for the first time)
Requests are open!
“Be more careful!” The Rito snapped, wrapping his wings around you for what seemed to be the hundredth time that day.
“I-I’m sorry Revali! I’m trying my best…” You mumbled, tightening your fist around his chest feathers. Even though he was frustrated with you, you couldn’t resist admiring just how soft he felt up close.
“Alright, now do it again, and this time don’t fall.” He rolled his snake-like eyes, sighing dramatically.
“Yes.” You assured him, taking a hesitant step onto the brittle log which hanged above the unbelievably deep chasm of rocks and and a sure death.
You shuffled across as best you could, keeping your eyes straight ahead just as Revali had told you to. You were doing this to practice your balance, but you felt like you were becoming worse and worse the more times you fell.
The memory of the ground racing towards you flashed into your mind, and your body froze in the middle of a step.
“Keep going, don’t hesitate!” The Rito interrupted your sudden panic, his calm and commanding voice regaining your attention.
“Right!” You called back, traveling further across the log than you had yet to.
You began to laugh, unbelievably crossing to the other side of the mountain. You threw your arms out into the air, picking up your pace as if suddenly there was no need to fear falling ever again.
As if you had wings.
“Alright now, don’t get cocky.” You heard the laughter in his voice as he affectionately chastised you.
You turned around to look at him, a grin plastered across your face. The glee melted away at the sight you saw.
A bokoblin, just behind your Rito, bomb arrow at the ready.
Your eyes widened, your heart leaping to your throat as you shouted, “Revali!”
He jumped to the side so fast you didn’t even see him move, a blue blur to your limited vision. The arrow plummeted into the log instead, a blast of fire and smoke covering Revali from your sight as the log shattered, throwing your body like a tossed rag into the abyss.
“(Y/N)!!” He screamed your name with such anguish you felt your chest squeeze.
You couldn’t respond, air and wind whipping around you so quickly you couldn’t even breathe. You were plummeting backwards, but you didn’t mind.
You’d much rather die staring at the sky.
Tears found their way into your eyes, slipping away as quickly as they had come, candles in the wind.
“I don’t want to die.” You suddenly thought.
Before you could blink a burst of sound echoed all around you, something akin to a blue arrow racing towards you fast enough to break the sound barrier.
You saw the limp body of the bokoblin falling faintly through the wind, an arrow protruding from its eye.
Revali had survived. That was all that mattered.
No matter how quickly he flew, you knew he wouldn’t be fast enough. Your heart began to tear at the thought of Revali’s grief.
“I won’t let you die!” He shouted a heart-stopping promise, now close enough that you could see his determined eyes. His pain-filled tears.
Pulling the intricate bow from his back, he knocked a bomb arrow into shot, pulling the string back. Your eyes widened with frightened realization as he let the arrow fly.
It raced past you, burying itself into the ground. Your eyes locked with Revali’s. The intense jade of his eyes glued to your face, as if he was saving every little detail to memory, as if he were preparing for the worst.
Hylia, you hoped this worked.
Just when you reached the tip of the tallest tree, the bomb exploded, forcing you back upwards, heat chasing after you as you felt your back bend painfully.
Revali’s talons wrapped around you, flapping his wings as fast as he could, racing away from the rapidly growing blast. He rolled you both just as the explosion reached its highest point, narrowly avoiding being singed to a crisp.
You tightened your fingers around his feathers, holding on for dear life. You could feel him trying desperately to land, his claws digging painfully into your sides.
He crashed into the dirt, wrapping his wings protectively around you as you began to roll, slamming into the ground again and again, rocks and sticks cutting into his body.
Your arms wrapped around his neck, and you prayed to every goddess you knew he would be okay.
His breath considerably slowed. You laid atop of him on the ground, both of you unable to do anything except hold desperately onto each other. You were shivering, unable to calm yourself as images of your and his deaths invaded your mind.
“Are...you okay?” The Champion eventually asked, feathers slightly singed and full of dirt, his striking irises now riddled with worry as he pulled you tighter against him.
“Oh, Revali…” You sobbed, burying your face into the crook of his neck. “I’m sorry. I’m sorry!”
“What do you have to be sorry about?” He asked with a slight laugh, rolling his eyes as if everything was normal. “I’m the one who almost let yo-”
“If you died Hyrule would lose its Champion!” You suddenly interrupted, tightening your hold around his body. “I’m expendable Revali, but your precious. Precious to the whole kingdom.”
You felt his muscles tense beneath your body, his wings wrapping around your waist as he sat up. “What are you saying?”
“Don’t ever risk your life for me like that ever again.” You whispered through your tears, burying your fingers into his crest feathers, scratching your nails against him, as if you had to make sure he was really there.
“No. How could you say that?” He began to growl, his chest vibrating as he buried his beak into your hair, inhaling your scent deeply. “You think you’re expendable?”
You didn’t answer, refusing to look at him as you began to rub your face against his, a gesture you knew to be very intimate within Rito culture.
He didn’t even react, his concern for you overriding any other thoughts.
“You’re not expendable, (Y/N).” He whispered into your ear, his tears wetting your shoulder. “You’re the most precious thing to me in all of my life.”
You openly began to sob, kissing his neck and cheeks and anything you could reach as you reveled in simply being able to touch him.
“I love you, Revali.”
Without another word his beak pressed against your mouth, his tongue lapping at your lips. You gasped in surprise, Revali taking full advantage of this as his tongue met yours roughly, jolts of excitement running through your body as his tongue filled your mouth, rubbing against your teeth.
“I love you too, (Y/N).” He nipped at your neck through heavy breath, his electric gaze more intense and passionate than you had ever seen before.
“Swear to me you will never leave my side, not until the day I die.”
You twirled his braid around your finger, grinning at the excited clicks and whistles escaping from his beak as his chest began to vibrate in a purr.
“Only if you swear the same.”

You Ruffle My Feathers
No matter how much time you spent at Rito Village, you’d never get used to the cold. Another blast of wind rushed through your clothes, biting your skin as it went.
You shivered, clenching your flimsy coat closer to yourself in the hopes to capture even a little bit of warmth.
“And what’s this? A Champion of Hyrule can’t stand a little cold?” A mocking voice laughed, an even stronger flush of wind surrounding you as the speaker landed from his flight.
“S-Shut up, R-Revali.” You grated out between clenched teeth, barely able to move as the Rito made his way towards you.
His brilliant eyes studied you, jade and striking compared to the bland colors of the village.
“Stupid Hylians, always causing problems.” He dramatically sighed, although you didn’t miss the way he directed himself into the wind’s way, guarding you against the cold.
“Why don’t we p-practice somewhere warmer?” Your whole body was shaking violently now, snow pouring down into your hair. “H-How about Mipha’s palace?”
“The whole point of us meeting here was to practice with the wind!” He exclaimed, throwing his wings out, shaking his head. “You’re going to have to get used to the cold if-“
He suddenly cut himself off, clacking his beak to a shut. You stared at him with confusion, your scrutinizing gaze turning his head away from yours, almost as if he were embarrassed.
“Revy, is there s-something you’re not telling me?”
His feathers bristled at the nickname, his eyes growing wide with something akin to shock. “My name is Revali, Hylian. Revali!”
“And m-my name’s not Hylian!” You shouted back, crossing your arms in anger. “I should have just spent the day with Link.”
Revali felt a cold chill grip his stomach when you said that. He had known you for only a few short months, but there was something about you which drew him to you.
The way your mouth pulled back to reveal your strange teeth in what you called a “smile”, the way your skin flushed under the cold, how you loved to argue back with him...he couldn’t say it out loud but he had fallen for a Hylian.
And he’d be damned if he let that bastard Link steal HIS Hylian.
Revali’s wings suddenly wrapped around you, pulling you into his chest, smothering you with his feathers like you were a newborn chick. You gave a small gasp in surprise, before his chest began to vibrate pleasantly along with his words.
“I’m sorry. Just don’t leave me.” He whispered, before resting his beak on top of your head, shielding you from the cold.
Your heart was beating unbelievably fast within your chest, the warmth of his body instantly chasing the cold away.
Carefully, you wrapped your arms around his torso, relishing in how soft his feathers were against your skin. You buried your face into his chest, smiling to yourself as you mentally compared him to a stuffed-animal.
“I won’t.”
He gave a soft trill of what you could only assume to be elation. “Good. That’s...good.”
You looked up into his face, and were filled with affection at the fire which flared within his snake-like irises.
“Revali…” You murmured, gently skimming your hand up his neck, stopping at his cheek as if he would suddenly bolt. You weren’t sure what you were planning on doing, but you knew you wanted to do something.
Without another thought, you wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him in for a kiss, pressing your lips to the end of his beak, forcing your body against his.
The Rito tensed, blinking confusedly, somewhat frightened by your sudden movements. He was frozen in place, as if he didn’t know if was allowed to do anything else.
You pulled your face away, shame creeping into your features. From his reaction you could safely assume he did not enjoy that.
“Was that some sort of Hylian sign for affection?” He eventually asked, awkwardly stiff beneath your arms, talking as slow as he possibly could, as if he were walking through a proverbial landmine.
You gave a short laugh, releasing him in intense embarrassment. “Y-Yeah. Sorry, I shouldn’t have assumed Rito kissed.”
The instant you finished your sentence Revali’s feathers puffed, the tips of his wings splaying out in the most aggressive display of shock you had ever seen, his claws stumbling back. “Th-That was a kiss?!”
Revali wasn’t a fool, he knew what kissing was. Every other species besides the Rito did it, after all. But he had never witnessed one himself, or ever imagined what it would like on a Rito.
“Y-Yeah?” You stammered, unsure of how you should behave around his strange body language. You’d seen him ruffled before, but never to this extent.
Was he offended?
The longer you stayed away from him the colder you began to feel, a shiver crawling back up your spine.
“I really am sorry, Revali. I’ll give you some time.” You barely managed to say as your throat began to close, tears blurring your eyesight. “W-We don’t have to speak again, if you don’t want to.”
You started rushing down the wooden stairs which wrapped around the Rito’s mountain like a cobra, feet pounding in tandem. You heard Revali give a slight shout, but you ignored it. This was by far the most embarrassing thing you’d ever done, and to your friend as well.
As soon as you reached the end of the village you wasted no time in racing towards your horse, who patiently waited outside the village gate, happily munching grass.
Before you could reach the reins, a blue bullet raced towards you, splitting the sky with it’s incredible speed like a bolt of lightning.
Revali’s wings burst open just before he crashed into the dirt, the giant gust of wind blowing you into the ground and spooking your horse, nearly trampling you.
“(Y/N)!” You heard Revali shout, voice full of fear as he called your name for the first time.
You pushed yourself off the grass before he could reach you, brushing dirt off your clothes as you hurried after your steed, praying he didn’t see your face. Revali chased after your heels, releasing strange whistles from his beak, deep and slow, as if he were trying to console you.
“Stop! I need to talk to you.” He growled out with some frustration, the confusing whistles continuing, growing even louder as he neared you. “Stop acting so stupid!”
“Just go away, Revali!” You shouted, roughly wiping your face, pushing him back as he tried to come closer. “I’ve never been so embarrassed in my life!”
Revali suddenly stopped in his tracks, finally going completely quiet. You stopped running from him, sensing the seriousness of his silence.
He stared at your face for a moment, as if he were deciding something, before he began to flap his wings in a circular motion, forcing gusts of wind against you.
You stared at him with great confusion, taking a somewhat frightened step back. He began pointing his beak in the air, alternating angles to better flash his neck feathers.
For the grand finale he dug his claws into the dirt, drawing three straight lines towards himself, fully splaying his wings into the air as he took a slight bow towards his extended foot.
He looked up at you expectantly, amusement dancing in his eyes from your clear uncertainty.
“Do you have any idea what I just did?” He asked with a loud laugh, quickly covering his scratch marks with dirt.
“I-I’m sorry. Was it a “I forgive you” dance?”
“An I forgive- Look Hylian, I’m trying to make a point here.” He stated, ruffling his feathers as he looked away from you, slightly awkward. “An extremely embarrassing point, I might add.”
You took a careful step toward him, face flushed just the way he liked. “What kind of point?”
“The point that we obviously like each other a lot but come from two entirely different species so our customs do not always match up.” He stared straight at you, wrapping his wings around you for both your benefit and his own. “But that doesn’t mean we like each other any less.”
You smiled, just like he’d hoped you would, cupping your small hands around his face again, holding him the way only a Hylian could. “No, it doesn’t.”
Before you could move he plucked a single, long, blue feather from his wing, burying it behind your ear as he nuzzled his neck against yours.
“That’s a Rito kiss.” He murmured, a soft humm vibrating from his chest, almost like purring.
You touched the feather softly, deeply touched by his actions. You wanted to return the favor.
You brushed your hands through his silk feathers, scratching him pleasantly with your nails. “And this is a real Hylian kiss.”
You grabbed one of his braids, tugging slightly before he opened his beak, instantly moving your mouth to his.
Gently, you latched onto his giant tongue, sucking and releasing the tip with a loud “Pop!”, greatly enjoying the wet smoothness in your mouth.
He would have asked if you were trying to eat him if it hadn’t felt so good.
You pressed your face further into his beak, taking in even more of his fat tongue as you went. His eyes fluttered shut, body almost faint at the intense pleasures you were providing him.
You pulled away before it could get too intense, releasing him as you went, causing him to stumble in a daze after you. His yellow brow-feathers raised in shock, his eyes glazed over as he stood before you, tongue tied.
“I guess you enjoyed that?” You giggled.
He snapped his beak shut, clearing his throat as he swung his wings nonchalantly. “It was alright, I suppose.”
Your heart swelled for him, and you touched his “Rito’s Kiss” again, proud to have his love.
He glanced over at you, and you could tell he was thinking just the same.

Couldn’t Do It Without You (pt.1)
~Jean Kirschtein x Reader~
I live in a world of nothing but death and destruction. Our comfort is nothing but a lie, and the Titans are coming.
They are coming.
Some choose to ignore this truth. Others choose to fight it. I have chosen to run from it.
“Of all the cadets I’ve had the unpleasantness to meet, this group seems to be the worst by far!!” The cadet trainer roared into the face of a frightened blonde girl, her stance rigid but still twitching with the urge to turn away. “What do they feed you louses? Send me street rats and expect me to make soldiers outta them?!”
I had yet to remove my eyes from the patch of dirt in front of me, but I knew my fellow cadets and I couldn’t have looked our best. Nationwide famine had a way of doing that to people.
“And what’s got you so happy, rat-boy?” The Commander suddenly growled, slamming his forehead into the boy’s who stood next to me, causing me to flinch.
I heard him cry out in pain, buckling over into the dirt. He groaned loudly, unable to move as he shakily grasped his head.
“Who told you to fall out of line cadet?!”
The boy scrambled to attention, his breathing now shallow and fast. “Pardon me, sir!”
“Name!”
“Jean Kirschtein!”
“And why are you here, Jean Kirschtein?”
“To find protection by the side of the King, sir!”
The Commander paused at his answer. His eyes seemed frozen on the boys, empty as the cogs within his mind took their time in turning.
Without warning he broke into gut-wrenching laughter, holding his sides dramatically and attempting to have the other cadets join in.
Everyone else stayed dead silent, out of fear or contempt, I did not know.
The Commander quickly recovered, suddenly entirely unamused.
At least the kid was honest, I thought, cringing as I heard the Commanders growl slowly deepen, growing more aggressive by the second.
“Well, I hope you find safety in the alleys of the interior, rat.” He murmured, the first thing he had said which wasn’t a yell.
In a flash, his clenched fist landed squarely in the boy’s stomach, and he seemed to enjoy his cries of pain as he began to laugh once more. “But you’ll have to scuttle your way to the top first!”
Jean groaned pitifully, but this time managed to stay erect. I couldn’t help but feel bad for him. Especially considering I was about to receive the same treatment.
“You.” The commander addressed me for the first time, the low rumble within his chest growing louder as he approached me. “Name!”
“(Y/N) (L/N), sir!” I cried, slamming my fist against my heart in salute.
“Why are you here, (L/N)?”
“To serve our great and majestic ruler the king, sir!” I stared the Commander straight in his eyes as I spoke, hoping he would believe my all too idealistic lie. The way he smirked at me suggested he could read right through me.
“What a hero!” He grinned. Before I could flinch he was grabbing me by the back of my head, pushing my neck down until I was eye-level to my stomach. He let out a chuckle, jerking me around a bit. “Already so good at bowing before your betters!”
“Thank you, sir!” I cried, slamming my eyes closed, praying he didn’t throw me face down into the dirt. A small chuckle erupted a few rows behind us, sending the Commander instantly stalking after the sound.
“Amusing am I?!” He screamed, quickly losing any of the amusement he had found from tossing me around.
My breath quickened as he paced away, and I found my eyes unable to remove themselves from the pile of dirt again. I had thought for sure I’d be beaten as well for that so clearly cowardly answer, but I had been spared.
Maybe I wasn’t cut out for this. Maybe I should just go back-
“Guys an asshole.” The boy who had given the same answer as me muttered, his uniform dirt-stained and his face bruised. He couldn’t move his eyes from the ground either, but now mine had finally found his.
A great feeling began to swell within me the longer I looked at him. Something deep and wonderful...something about him which I couldn’t tear my eyes away from...
His face was pointed, yet strong, proudly presenting a jaw which had been sculpted like marble down his face. His eyes burned patiently with untempered passion, a hazel which could harden like steel and warm like the sun depending on who his eyes had found themselves on.
Holy shit, was all I could think of, entirely breathless.
“Uuh...y-yeah.” I blinked owlishly at him, quickly turning my face away, praying he hadn’t noticed how stupid I looked. The heat of my blood was burning my face, filling my heart with foolish notions.
It raced within my chest for a completely different reason than before. For the first time in my life I had forgotten the situation I was in, only his face branding itself within my mind, like a single candle fighting against an endless black.
The screams of the Commander brought me back to reality, my heart thumping wildly within my chest as I grounded lazily back down from my colorful daydream.
Jean looked at me a bit confusedly, before turning his eyes blankly towards the other cadets, seemingly bored. I scrambled to find something else to say, anything to get those eyes on me again, but my mouth felt dry and useless under the pressure, as if my tongue was simply dead weight.
“He could at least be a bit less rough with the girls.” A freckled boy to my right suddenly interrupted, cutting his eyes playfully, as if he didn’t really mean it.
“Ha! Like an asshole like that would care.” Jean grinned, almost smarmily, taking a quick glance past me at who he was conversing with. “Wait, who’re you, kid?”
“My name’s Marco!” He smiled boyishly, a pleased flush to his cheeks. “I’m here to join the Military Police, just like you guys.”
“Ah, our competition, eh?” Jean laughed, bumping me lightly with his elbow, setting my face ablaze again almost effortlessly.
“Y-Yeah. Better watch out, Marco. We’re coming for your spot.” I smiled shakily, easing myself into the conversation as best as my sudden nervousness would allow.
“What’s this we’re?” Jean laughed, forgetting his place and coming completely out of form, throwing his arm over my shoulders. “Already my little partner in crime, huh?”
I practically had steam blowing out of my ears. If I hadn’t been so worried about the Commander I probably would have fainted right there in his arms.
“Uhh, umm, the C-Commander…” I stuttered, pointing faintly in his direction. My legs had buckled, and I was now leaning my entire body into this complete stranger’s chest.
He smelled like pine trees and apples. Masculine and warm all at once. He squinted at me with a hint of annoyance dancing in his eyes, pulling me closer into his neck.
“Whaaat? Come on, don’t tell me you’re one of those goody-two shoe types.” He complained, playing up his disappointment. “I thought that stuff about serving the King was all bull-“
“Oi!” A voice suddenly shouted. “Stop messing around. This may be some kind of a cruel joke to you, but real people are dying.”
An embarrassed flush filled my face at the boy’s words, the entire Corp staring at us with a blatant mix of disapprovement and mockery.
Jean’s face flushed as well, but his blood ran hot with unbridled rage, instead of the ashamed cower I was sporting.
“Wanna say that again, asshole?” Jean called across the rows, balling his hand into a fist. Marco immediately began to spill over with words as he attempted to defuse the situation, but his anxieties seemed to fall onto deaf ears as Jean marched out of line.
“Wait, Jean!” I cried out without thinking, grasping the fabric of his coat between my fingers. His eyes dashed towards mine, stopping dead in his tracks.
“J-Jean?” He whispered to himself, a light blush coloring his cheeks.
“I-I mean Kirschtein!” I shouted stupidly, bowing my head in apology, refusing to look up. “But please, Kirschtein. Please stay here with Marco and me.”
His eyes were wide as he stared at me, his lips pressing into a thin, embarrassed line. Marco let out a small snort at the way Jean attempted to correct himself in front of the rest of the cadets, brushing me off with a light slap of his hand.
“Fine, fine, if you’re going to be so dramatic about it.” He pouted, glancing away from me as if he were annoyed. Everyone could still see the delighted look in his eye though, as much as he tried to hide it. “I won’t fight that bastard...if you promise me something.”
I felt a bit surprised at the seriousness of his voice. I wasn’t sure what he would want me to promise, especially after us having just met, but I wanted, almost needed to know what he would ask of me.
“What is it, Kirschtein?”
“Please don’t ever call me anything but Jean, ever again.”
My face, my neck, even my arms flooded red, his golden eyes staring into my face, smiling roguishly at my incoherent stammers.
“I promise, Jean.” I eventually whispered, not even noticing the many curious eyes glued to our little show.
He laughed loudly, rubbing his knuckles through my hair as he fell back into line, grinning at me as if he couldn’t contain his humor. “That’s a good puppy.”
If anyone else in the universe had treated me like that I would have probably exploded, but with Jean… I couldn’t even act like I didn’t enjoy it.
“Cadets dismissed!” The Commander suddenly roared above the chatter, jumping us back into attention. “Those of you who want to take the miserable crawl back to your farm-loving lives, the carriage is waiting for you. Those stupid enough to stay, head towards the cafeteria for tonight’s slop.”
Like a snap, the crowd of kids moved like a herd on a rampage, rushing towards the center of camp, foaming at the mouth for a bite of anything edible.
I lost my sight of Jean almost immediately, his comforting presence disappearing with him. I reached out for his sleeve, but my hand was knocked away by a rush of people. Dozens of cadets stormed past me like I wasn’t even there, and my heart pounded at the incessant rush of their feet.
When the whirlwind finally passed me, leaving dust flying wildly in their wake, I realized just how weak I really was.
My stomach tightened. Like a bad omen, the carriage stood waiting behind me, beckoning me to return to the city, to live a simple farmer’s life. The life I was made to lead.
Everyone back home was right. I couldn’t do this, I couldn’t even make it through a goddamn crowd!
I was leaving, I was never coming back to this moronic-
“Hey! (Y/N)! Where’d ya go?” I heard Jean call out.
“Oh, there she is!” Marco pointed, a teasing smile pulling at his lips. “Get lost?”
“You really are just a little puppy, aren’t you?” Jean chuckled, throwing his arm back around me, squeezing me closer. “I guess Marco and I’ll have to watch over you from now on.”
I almost happily relented into his shoulder again, but I shook myself awake, forcing myself to speak. “I’m no burden, Jean.”
Marco looked a bit surprised at my defiant tone, but Jean only melted further into my side, smirking. “Of course you’re not.”
I couldn’t resist rolling my eyes.
With some hesitance, I took one last glance behind me, witnessing the tip of the carriage disappear behind the hills, and I knew my entire life had just changed.
“Were you thinking about leaving?” Marco suddenly asked, his perceptive eyes studying mine.
“What! Of course not!” I laughed a bit too hard, immediately tensing up. “Why do you ask?”
“Yeah, why do you ask, Marco?” Jean butted in, tightening his hold on my shoulder as if I were actively trying to leave.
“Oh, no reason.” He smirked, quickening his pace a bit. Probably to get away from Jean’s menacing glare.
Jean.
I leaned a bit further into him, thoroughly enjoying his warm and solid chest. I hadn’t any idea why he had so easily taken me under his wing, quite literally, but I couldn’t have been more grateful.
“Thank you, Jean.” I smiled happily at him, patting the arm around my neck. His face flushed a little, a dumb look flashing across his face.
“For what?” He grumbled, glaring at me. “Weirdo.”
I glared back at him this time, crossing my arms across my chest. “Say something like that again Jean, I dare you.”
I couldn’t seem to stop saying his name.
“Oh, is the little puppy mad?” He babytalked, rubbing his long face into my hair as if I really were a dog.
Without a word I shoved him towards the dirt, sending him tripping in the opposite direction as I caught up with Marco, smiling innocently at his questioning gaze.
“What happened to Jean?” He asked with a knowing smile, taking a innocuous glance at our new friend. His curses and rails against us only made us laugh.
I might not have understood how our friendship had happened, but I knew I wouldn’t be here without it.
“You guys ready?” Marco asked, in reference to dinner.
“Yeah.” I answered, meaning so much more.
