Is the Mystic Messenger fandom still alive? Just curious.

I used to be extremely into Mystic Messenger back in like 2017 when it was popular. A friend and I were both super into it, and despite never spending any actual money on the game I played it so much that I unlocked almost all of the content, and tried to get as many endings as I could. 707 was my fav if anyone cares. ❤️💛

Eventually the interest fizzled out and it was just taking up too much space on my phone. But recently I watched a few YouTube “deep dive” type videos on Mystic Messenger and ended up feeling really nostalgic for it, that I ended up redownloading the game and continuing my quest to get all of the endings.

It makes me really happy that the app still works well and Cheritz still seems to do regular updates to take care of bugs (though I believe that there aren’t going to be any more significant content updates… Don’t quote me on that though). But considering how almost every other nostalgic mobile game either no longer works or sucks absolute ASS with ads and whatnot, it’s nice that Mystic Messenger has stayed both good quality and accessible all these years!

Anyway… Since it’s been quite a while since the peak of the games popularity I’m not surprised that the fandom doesn’t seem to be as prevalent as it used to be, but I also wonder if anyone else is feeling a similar nostalgia to me/if the fandom is still alive at all. Especially since Mystic Messenger will be coming up on its 10 year anniversary in 2026 (which is absolutely wild to me).

Regardless, this game will always have a special place in my heart and I wanted to talk about it so… Excuse the fact that this was kind of a ramble of a post and pretty unrelated to the fandoms that I’ve been posting about more recently.

Dark Urge & Enver Gortash Theory: About the Gondians

Hey all! I’m currently working on a Durgetash fanfic and in researching for it, I realized something that I don’t think I’ve seen anyone else talk about (if someone has talked about this before and I just didn’t see it, please let me know). I’d love to discuss further in the comments if people have additional thoughts!

(This post will obviously contain spoilers for the Dark Urge storyline)

So some of the significant documents that discuss Gortash and the Dark Urge’s prior relationship are “Test Mission with Gortash” (written by the Dark Urge) and “Memoir Notes with Recent Addenda”. Through these documents, we learn that Gortash informed the Dark Urge of relics of Bhaal at the Hall of Wonders, and that they worked together to take back the relics. The Dark Urge viewed this as an opportunity to test the waters with Gortash, and it did lead to them “discovering common goals” and working together more in the future. The Dark Urge also expresses a lot of anger about finding out that the relics had been displayed in the museum, writing that “if they think Bhaalians are some tourist attraction, we will give them a show”.

Upon searching the Baldur’s Gate wikis, I discovered that the Hall of Wonders is connected to the High House of Wonders in Baldur’s Gate (these locations seem to be accessible in previous Baldur’s Gate games, but you can’t go there in BG3). Both of these locations are owned and operated by the church of Gond.

Personally, I found this really interesting considering the fact that Gortash eventually comes to enslave the Gondian gnomes in the Steel Watch Foundry. Obviously, on the surface it makes sense since Gond is the God of crafting and smithing, so the gnomes would be good at doing the kind of work that Gortash and the Bane cultists wanted.

However, I feel like the connection to the Hall of Wonders heist with the Dark Urge seems like an oddly specific detail to include, and herein lies my theory:

I think that the Hall of Wonders heist may have inspired Gortash to eventually take advantage of the Gondian gnomes. However, I also wonder if this may have been a gesture for the Dark Urge, as a way for Gortash to help them get even more revenge for the Hall of Wonders having the Bhaalist relics.

If you read into the Gortash ship, to me it definitely seems like enslaving the Gondians is something that Gortash could have done as like a “romantic gesture” for the Dark Urge (obviously a very evil and fucked up one at that, but it kind of tracks with how evil these two are).

Also, I feel like it could also have been a gesture of friendship/allyship if you don’t subscribe to the Durgetash ship.

Bhaalist Dark Urge Song Recommendation

“I’m outside in the dark, staring at the blood red moon, remembering the hopes and dreams I had and all I had to do”

The Dark Urge walks through the carnage that they’ve created in their Father’s name; the sky stained red with the blood that they’ve spilled. Though their Urge may as well have all but consumed them, a sliver of their humanity yet remains, as they reflect on their life and all they’ve done.

“It’s all gone, it’s all gone. Nothing left of what I loved”

They’ve purged all life from the world as their Father intended. Sacrificed their friends, their lover… Everything. And for what? Father’s love? Does Father even love them?

“Left alone with nothing at the end of every song. Left alone with nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing…”

No. Father doesn’t love them. The Dark Urge is utterly alone. Could things have ended differently for them? It’s pointless to wonder. They are left alone with the utter nothingness that they created.
