former supreme arch angel crowley agrees to go instead of aziraphale, if only to allow his angel to enjoy earth -- humans, books, wine, little cakes in nightingale-less hotels, their home across the coffee shop, their bentley permanently waiting by the curb -- for just a while longer. uttering "aziraphale" and "the book of life" in the same sentence keeps him on a tight leash. but it's not that bad, when you get used to it. his duties help remove little bits of suffering from the world with the things he loved. and that's Right. he's Right. slowly, a third side seems senseless, because why wouldn't you pick heaven? they're the good guys. the side of truth. of light. and war has to be won by the good guys.

i havent rly seen anyone mention this scene but honestly it was one of the most heartbreaking moments in s2, where he holds the jar as if it were the boy itself. :( so gently, and with love, but also regretfully. kinda reminded me a bit of the ivan the terrible painting.
