Here is the first test-drive for Robert on “Standin’Up“ since I added the hollow-body guitar bouts to it and converted it to a “frettless”. The clip highlights how well the bass serves sitting on the lap or Standin’ Up -the way that he imagined playing it right from the start. Once he put it in the floor, he played it that way for the rest of the set. I really like the way Standin’Up allows Robert to access certain nuances in his experiences with a classic bass which don’t come all the way through when he is playing with the neck horizontal. This one had a powerful amp with an extension speaker when it first went out of the house. The first time Robert played it, he said he wanted to play it “Standin’ Up” So i modified it and now it works when you’re standing or sitting. Here is an #oldfriend of mine in the hands of an old friend of mine. I barely knew Joseph at the time I shot this video but we got to know each other quite well over the years because every time I had another #builtinampguitar ready for my road, I would stop by and show it to him between his repair projects on the bench. I love the way he makes the #electricguitars come alive. Watching him set up an instrument is always a valuable lesson as well as great #entertainment. The way he roughs it out on the bench and then does the finer adjustments to the bridge with a guitar in the playing position. Of course, you have to be aware of all of the rules first, but It's all about the way that it feels when you want to make good music.
