A man, said to be pretending to be mentally unstable, was beaten to a pulp by locals after he was allegedly found with N250,000, three iPhones, and women's underwear in Ogun state.   It was gathered that the suspect, who stays under the bridge in Mowe, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, was caught answering a call on Thursday, July 29, and it made residents suspicious to see a supposedly mad man answering a call.   According to Punch, residents asked where he got the phone from but he could not give a satisfactory answer, instead, he tried to escape.   Residents caught him before he could go far and they searched him. They allegedly found the sum of N250,000, three iPhones, and women's underwear in his possession, and the locals descended on him, beating him.   An eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Ade, told the publication that he and his friends were placing a bet under the bridge when they saw the suspect making a phone call so they confronted him.   The eyewitness added: "He had been at the Mowe bus stop for long and when some passers-by saw what we found on him, they pounced on him and beat him.   "We later handed him over to the police, but policemen at the Mowe Police Division said they could not accommodate a lunatic in their station. Only God knows who he was calling."   A trader in the area, identified simply as Yetunde, said the suspect was beaten when he refused to disclose who he was talking to on the phone.   She said, "When he was asked who he was talking to, he refused to talk; it was the annoyance that made people to start beating him and wondering where a lunatic got such amount of money, phones and women pants and bra from. This is an eye-opener to everyone in Mowe. Only God knows how many atrocities he has committed in Mowe.   "Probably he is working with ritualists, because I don’t know where he got the money and the phones, and maybe the underwear belong to women he raped or killed and sold their body parts." . Nigerian athlete, Blessing Okagbare, has been provisionally suspended after failing a drug test at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics on Friday July 30. The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), the independent body created by the World Athletics that manages all integrity issues for the sport, announced the decision. According to the body, Okagbare tested positive for Human Growth Hormone.   “Growth Hormone is a non-specified substance on the 2021 World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List and a provisional suspension is mandatory following an adverse analytical finding for such substance under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules. The AIU collected the sample from Ms. Okagbare during an out-of-competition test on 19 July. The WADA-accredited laboratory that analysed the sample notified the AIU of the adverse analytical finding at mid-day Central European Time yesterday, Friday 30 July. The athlete was notified of the adverse analytical finding and of her provisional suspension this morning in Tokyo. . The sentencing of self-confessed internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas aka Hushpuppi, has been slated for October this year. This is according to the United States Attorney’s Office at the Central District of California.   Hushpuppi was arrested in Dubai in July 2020 for a multi-millionaire dollar fraud perpetrated by him and members of his syndicate. This week he pleaded guilty to various offences bordering on internet scam, money laundering, among others.   His plea bargain document which was released online this week was signed by Hushpuppi, his lawyer, Loius Shapiro; and Acting United States Attorney, Tracy Wilkison, among others. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has banned the sale of foreign exchange (FX) to Bureau De Change (BDCs) operators in the country.   The CBN governor, Godwin Emefiele, announced this at the end of the monetary policy committee meeting in Abuja on Tuesday July 27. . After a 13-hour hearing, Cour De’Appel De Cotonou ordered that Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, be kept in prison custody pending further investigation. The hearing ended around 11:20 pm on Monday, July 26, and Igboho was returned to his cell. The court, however, declined the extradition of Igboho to Nigeria. The court, which was expected to start hearing the case at 10:00am, barred reporters and supporters of Igboho who besieged the premises. The hearing eventually commenced at about 5:00pm and it was heard behind closed doors as the court limited attendance to lawyers, Igboho’s wife Ropo, and a few others. Igboho and his wife, Ropo, were arrested on Monday, July 19, 2021, by the International Criminal Police Organisation at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic, on their way to Germany. They were arraigned last Thursday, July 22, and the Beninese court adjourned the case till Monday, July 26. Ropo, who is a German citizen was set free by the court on July 22 while the Yoruba Nation agitator was remanded in the custody of Brigade Criminelle in Cotonou. The government of Nigeria sought Igboho's extradition to Nigeria after accusing him of trafficking in arms, inciting violence to disrupt public peace, and agitating for secession. ✒ The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Monday, July 26, declined the request of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to be moved to Kuje Correctional Service Centre. Kanu has been in DSS custody since his arrest and extradition to Nigeria. He is on trial for treasonable felony. ✒ Footage of a closed-circuit television (CCTV) which captured actor Baba Ijesha allegedly sexually molesting a minor, was on Monday July 26 admitted as evidence by special offences courts unit of the Lagos state high court. This came after the state director of public prosecution (DPP), Olayinka Adeyemi presented three witnesses including Comedienne Princess against the actor who is being tried on a six-count charge which includes sexual assault by penetration, indecent treatment of a child, and sexual assault. Shortly after the minor's foster mother, Princess gave an account of what transpired, Adeyemi presented a CD copy of the CCTV footage before the court as evidence. Baba Ijesha's counsel, Babatunde Ogala however opposed this, arguing that the CCTV footage was not “primary evidence. Ogala said "Primary evidence is not secondary evidence. The maker of the CCTV footage is the primary evidence. The CD is secondary evidence which is not admissible." Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo however ruled that the footage can be admitted in the case as the witness and prosecution had laid enough foundation for its admission. Justice Taiwo said “She (Princess) has laid enough foundation, so it’s admissible.
