culmination of a 10 year old bond.

note: this became a lot shorter than I had originally planned. I omitted some parts because they had been talked about by other shippers as well so I just included parts that I thought were important to the point I was trying to make. english is not my first language so I apologize if there are grammatical errors.
looking back at all the levihan moments from the very beginning of the series, you would notice how isayama laid down the foundations of levi and hanji’s relationship and those said foundations played a big part on levi and hanji’s decisions in the final arc that involved the other.

why I think isayama did itend to hint some romance between levi and hanji

this is kind of a ranty post because I am tired of being told to not ship levihan because apparently "it ruins their friendship"
ever since the beginning of aot isayama had shown us snippets of levi and hanji's closeness and how well they know each other. yes their bond that was portrayed in the earlier stages of the series does not necessarily have to mean that they have romantic feelings for one another. yes it is valid to interpret some of those interactions as romantic but they could also be just purely planotic. but this is where chapters 115, 126 and 132. those are the chapters that I think solidified the fact that levi and hanji. what happened in chapters 126 and 132 are things you cannot simply brush off as platonic.
one does not simply ask someone to run away and live with them. people would always counter this with "but hanji only said that because they are tired!", yes hanji is tired that is an undeniable fact given what hanji was put through in that month alone. but if isayama's only intented to show us that hanji is tired so they wanted to run away, why did he go for a dialogue that may have romantic implications? why did it have to be "maybe we should just live here together right levi?" and not hanji directly stating that they are tired and they want to run away? another thing to note is that this was not the first time isayama implemented this narrative. here is a compilation of the amount of times the living together plot was included in the story. also why would isayama bother drawing hanji blushing? yes hanji does blush a lot but the context of the scene is important. why did hanji blush this time? because levi heard what they said which sounds a lot like a proposal. again I would get countered by people claiming that levi rejected hanji. but did he though? levi wakes up to hanji already fixing a cart that can transport him, this is a strong implication that hanji was not going to stay in the forest. maybe for a brief moment they had really considered of just staying there with levi. hanji actually admits to mikasa and jean that they had thought of abandoning everything. but doing that would he very uncharacteristic of hanji. maybe hanji said that because for a moment they wanted to be selfish, to have something for themself. to be able to say something that they desire which is a life of peace and with levi safe by their side. but deep down hanji knows they couldn't abandon the people who need them and waste the sacrifices their comrades had made. that's why levi tells hanji that he knows them. levi knows that hanji wouldn't be able to bear the guilt of leaving everything and everyone behind. and to that hanji agrees with levi that yes they can't. so where is the rejection? all I see are two people who have decided to walk on the same path. to me, levi's words felt more like an assurance that he is on the same page as hanji and is affirming their decision. another thing is that when levi asks hanji where will running get them. that felt like an implication that they cannot run away yet not when they have responsibilities to bear. because by simply running away they cannot achieve true peace.
by now I am pretty sure that most of you by now are aware of levi's unrequited love dialogue in 132. I also discussed this in a separate post so check it out if you want. why would isayama insert something like this in the dialogue? levi implies that hanji's love for titans is unrequited but there is a mutual feeling with someone. I've seen people say names of other characters but that doesn't make much sense considering hanji just practically confessed to levi a few days ago in their universe. whose mutual feelings is levi going to naturally confirm them? wouldn't it make sense if it was with him?
and of course levi saying dedicate you heart for the very first time and he said it as a farewell for hanji. this isn't something you can simply brush off because levi has been in the survey corps for 10 years and this was the only time he says it. not only that but he couples it with the gesture of striking up his left fist over hanji's heart. why couldn't he just do a standard salute and hanji would salute back to him? why did it have to be something that looks so personal? and the focus on their eyes and hanji's quivering lips is just something so powerful.
then we even get isayama uploading a photo of that levi panel saying see you hanji in 132 but without his bandages so we could clearly see levi's sorrowful expression. for what reason did he upload this? and first of all he really had to take a photo of it because covering levi's face in bandages.
just recently, 138 was released and it practically confirms eremika as a canon ship. and the thing about that? there are numerous parallels with levihan with the dialogues and how some panels were drawn. also made another post on it so here is the link if you are interested.
so if isayama only intended for levi and hanji's bond to be seen as platonic then why would he bother inserting hints that are romantic in nature? like I said in the beginning, some can be taken as purely platonic in context but the other ones are blatantly romantic. and them having parallels with a ship that is strongly hinted to be canon is just something you can simply brush off.
this became a bit longer than I thought. if you made it until the end then thank you. there are some things about 115, 126 and 132 that I still did not say in this because I am planning to make separate posts about them when aot ends. so basically this concludes my rant on why I think isayama was indeed inserting romantic hints in levihan's dynamic.

Rivetra was a tragedy of timing / Levihan was a tragedy of restraint

⚠️ hot take incoming ⚠️
If you can’t handle your fave ship being shipped with someone else, go ahead and keep scrolling. this post isn’t for you.
this is for the people who actually enjoy digging into the messy, layered dynamics in Attack on Titan's complicated and subtle relationship dynamics. the ones who don’t mind exploring the in-betweens and what-ifs, the subtext and the missing pieces that canon never fully spelled out.
So yeah. let’s talk about Levi, Petra, and Hange. buckle up.
I’m a hardcore Levihan shipper (and I strongly believe this to be canon, don’t fight me!), but if someone ever asked me if Levi had another possible love interest other than Hange—well, sorry Eruri fans, but no, it’s not Erwin. It would be Petra.
Wait, what? I thought you were Levihan for life???
Yes, and I always will be. But let’s not forget these characters are multi-faceted. They have layers—complicated pasts, subtle choices—and the plot itself helped mold them into who they became by Season 4.
Season 1, while tragic, still had a clearer structure. Titans = enemies. But as the story evolved and they reached the other side of the wall, the narrative shifted. The real threat wasn’t just titans anymore—it was the entire world, planning to erase the existence of Eldians. And that changed everything, including how our characters saw themselves, each other, and their purpose.
Levi and Hange were different people back then. Even if they were close, even if there was a bond, their dynamic wasn’t exactly what we saw later. (more on this in a bit.)
Let’s try to seal the intentional gaps left by the story—to stay in-character and to make sense of the subtle ways Levi’s relationships were presented in the earlier seasons.
A quick reminder of the timeline: by the start of Season 1, Levi was probably in his early 30s and had already been with the Survey Corps for around six years (based on ACWNR), which means he’d known Hange for at least that long. Petra, on the other hand, was relatively new—she’d been with Levi’s squad for about a month.
Now, when Levi and Hange were introduced in the manga, they were introduced side by side (like Eremika, hello?). Hange was teasing Levi about how if people only knew what a neat freak he was, they wouldn’t admire him so much. And right after that? The hair grab scene. Levi pulls her close and says “kokoda” in that deep, near-whisper voice—and the way it's animated, it’s clearly meant for her and only her. It’s intimate. (Mike literally looked tired of their shit. Iconic.)

Sure, this wasn’t in the manga—but the anime added it to emphasize their relationship. Let that sink in.
From just this small interaction, you can already feel the closeness. It even flirts with flirtation. Look at Hange’s eyes when she teases him—girl’s either crushing hard or just enjoying the chemistry. And Levi? Let’s not forget that he’s a clean freak and Hange… well, isn’t. So him pulling her that close? Look at how her hair scrunched from Levi’s hold. That’s not nothing.
Let’s be real: if I were Hange’s boyfriend and saw her “best friend” do that, I’d be flipping a table. So let’s simplify things—Levi and Hange were that pair. The two friends who swear they’re “just friends” while everyone around them silently suffers through their PDA. But no, they weren’t together during this time. They were simply them—deeply bonded, constantly orbiting each other, sharing laughs, rants, and quiet loyalty.
Now let’s talk about Petra.
Petra Ral was 19. Levi was around 31–32 (and still not fully aware of his Ackerman lineage). Yes, there’s a significant age gap, but this is just headcanon territory—trying to connect the dots the narrative left scattered.
Even if Levi wasn’t actively thinking of retirement or family, he was still human. And at that age, even the most closed-off people start wondering: What next? He probably didn’t have a detailed fantasy of domestic life, but maybe—maybe—he had moments where he thought about coming home to someone. Not someone romantic, per se, but someone stable. Someone who wouldn’t mind sharing tea in silence.
Now, Erwin? Out of the question. Levi knew he’d serve the military till death. Pixis-style. The next closest person was Hange. She was a confidant. The one who understood him without needing him to explain. She never judged him. She tolerated his harsh words. She knows him well.
…But she was obsessed with titans. She had purpose and obsession that extended far beyond Levi. Even if he wanted to offer her a quiet life, she wasn’t someone who could stay still for it. She needed freedom, curiosity, movement. And Levi—quietly—wanted that for her too. He wouldn't chain her to anything.
Then Petra entered the picture.
She was young, but she was also warm, kind, and clearly devoted to him. Levi noticed. How could he not? Petra worried about him—even though he was humanity’s strongest, this is evident is some scenes like in S01E09 where we first got a preview of Levi fighting.
Levi handpicked her for her skills, sure. But maybe also because of her balance—her strength and her care. Yams even said Levi thought Petra was cute. And when she died, Levi lingered. He stared.
Look at this picture, even in death, she was beautiful.
When Erwin died, Levi didn’t even take a keepsake. But Petra? He collected her patch, though he gave it to another soldier who needed comfort more. And when her father approached Levi in the street, talking about Petra being too young to marry, it was painful. Petra’s father had clearly misunderstood the letter she wrote—one where she declared her dedication to Levi. Not to the Survey Corps. To Levi.
In Petra, Levi saw a distant, fragile future. Not plausible, but… possible.
And that’s why he cared.
But what about Hange in all this?
I think Hange was the first to realize her feelings for Levi were more than friendship. All that teasing, the time spent together—come on, it was bound to happen. But Hange being Hange? She probably buried herself in her lab, blasting Heather by Conan Gray while dissecting a titan carcass (I’m joking… kinda).
The thing is, Hange’s smart. She’s observant. She probably saw the shift in Levi. She noticed the way he treated Petra, the stolen glances, the growing bond. And even though their bond (Levi and Hange’s) was stronger, she saw that Petra offered something she couldn’t: devotion without distraction. Petra had one purpose—Levi.
And Hange? She had a thousand obsessions. She probably told herself that Levi deserved someone who could give him time, stability, care. And she couldn’t. So maybe she quietly let him go.
Hange isn’t the typical “waifu” material. She’s not soft and kawaii—she’s chaotic brilliance, messy hair, explosions in the lab. Meanwhile, Petra was gentle, sweet, nurturing. The kind of person who'd write home about Levi. The kind of person Levi could come home to.
Hange, maybe, told herself Levi needed that. And she stepped back.
But here’s the thing: Levi couldn’t quite step back from Hange. Even if Petra represented a possibility, Hange was gravity.
He kept coming to her lab. He still sought her out. Even when he didn’t understand why. Even when she seemed to be moving on, fully immersed in her titan research.
When Petra died, that fragile possibility of a quiet future died too. And maybe Levi finally realized that he was never meant for “normal.”
After his injuries, he spent more time with Hange again. And guess what? That pull? Still there.
He starts asking for her attention. He pesters her. He picks her up from her lab, pretending it’s nothing. But it’s something.
And as time passes, especially after Erwin’s death, Levi and Hange lean on each other more. By Season 4, they’re inseparable. Partners in everything. Understanding each other without speaking.
And I believe—truly—that they only fully acknowledged what they felt from the moment Hange saw Levi broken and near-death… all the way to Hange’s sacrifice.
That’s what makes Levihan canon for me. Not in the loud, dramatic way. But in the slow-burn, unsaid, devastatingly beautiful way.
Star-crossed lovers. Never given a real chance. And that hurts. But it also fits.
Petra mattered. Her presence made Levi think about the future. She was part of his emotional evolution.
Hange? She was always there. The constant. The one person who knew Levi more than any one else, she took the time to know him, and in spite of Levi’s coldness, she stayed.
And okay—remember Hange had a thing for Keith Shadis? Yeah. Look at her type. Grumpy, brooding men who never smile. (Girl has a pattern.)
So even if the stories look different—Petra and Hange are vital to understanding Levi’s emotional core. They shape how he responds to grief, to love unspoken, to futures imagined and then ripped away.
Petra was an almost. And with Hange, he was finally sure. But by then, it was already too late.
Ps: Petra was beside Hange when Levi saw them in the mist. We can’t ignore that.

What do you think? Agree? Disagree? Let’s talk about it. Just don’t send hate—this is a safe space for headcanons and heartbreak.

I loveeeeeeeeeeeee underground Levi.... His late teenage (or early twenties) era was just hot. He was arrogant and kinda gave off a "Damncare-popular-badboy-handsome-guy" vibes and it's really attractive.

implied mutual feelings of love between levi and hanji—an analysis based on chapters 126 and 132.
note: this is a more in-depth version of what I have posted earlier.
This post is an attempt to make sense out of Levi’s nuanced dialogue in chapter 132. But before proceeding please read this tweet first to understand the context of this post: link to original tweet

Please also read this analysis done by shunkani, explaining the nuance present in the original Japanese text.
it is important that you read the posts I’ve linked above because what I am about to say here is not gonna make sense if you don’t.
Like always, note that what I am about to say is only my own interpretation of the events and should not be taken as absolute canon confirmation.

In chapter 132, Levi has a line that lost its nuance in the English translation. As explained in the linked posts above, Levi comments on Hanji’s unrequited love for titans but there is an implication that a mutual love shared with someone else.
What if that someone is Levi? When you think about it, it is not farfetched to assume that it was him considering how close he is to Hanji.
Other than that, there is an incident in the chapters prior to 132 that presents a strong case on why Levi could be referring to himself. Yes that’s right—Hanji asking Levi to live with him.
Now I’ve seen people try to dismiss what Hanji said to Levi in the forest and insist that there is nothing possibly romantic with it and that Hanji was simply expressing their want to run away because they are tired so here is my take on it:

After tending to Levi’s wounds, Hanji says,
“Maybe we should just live here together. Right Levi?”
If Isayama only intends to have Hanji express their exhaustion and desire to run away from everything, why didn’t he just make Hanji say something like 《"I want to run away Levi. I am tired.“》 ?
Why did it have to be Hanji expressing their want to live together with Levi? It was like Isayama tried to hit two birds with one stone. He had Hanji say their desire to run away and also to be with Levi.

Another factor in this is Hanji blushing after realizing that Levi heard what they said. Again, some fans have tried to refute this by saying that Hanji blushes all the time.
Yes Hanji blushes a lot but also consider the context of the scene. For second let us pretend tha these two characters are not Levi and Hanji—let’s pretend that they are Character A and B.
Character A is with Character B, and the former thinks the the latter is asleep. Character A then takes this as a chance to voice out their feelings for Character B.
A few moments later, Character B brings up what Character A said. Character A realizes Character B heard their confession and so they blush.
I mean look at it, you could easily pretend that what happened in the forest was something that came out straight from a romance novel or a shoujo manga.
And come on are we going to pretend that the run away and live with someone to start anew isn’t a common trope in romance?
Another argument I’ve seen is that maybe Hanji was just embarrassed that Levi heard them expressing their want to abandon their duties. This one is very easy to debunk.
Remember the beginning of Uprising Arc? Hanji shows their hesitation to Levi in continuing the titan experiments with Eren because they are afraid that the MPs might go after the SC just like what they did to Pastor Nick.
In both situations, Hanji was trying to run away and evade something and Levi was present in both situations. But did Hanji blush after showing their want to run here? No they did not.

Then what else could possibly the reason for Hanji’s blush other than a hint for romantic feelings?
Next let’s talk about Levi’s response to Hanji.
Levi subtly implies to Hanji that he heard what they said by asking,
“If we keep…running and hiding…what will that get us…?”
Some say that this was Levi rejecting Hanji but I disgaree. To me what Levi said sounds more like a We can’t run away yet if we still have things to do.

Levi also said that because he is aware of Hanji’s strong sense of responsibility.
“I know you…you’re not able to stay out of the action…”
He knows Hanji would’t be satisfied in being a bystander.

Another thing to note here is that Hanji is the one who arrives at the conclusion that they can’t.
Levi himself did not really gave a direct answer—and that is expected from someone like Levi who seems to be awkward and inexperienced in romance. It is understandable if he was caught off guard with what Hanji said and thus couldn’t give a proper response.
Now getting back to chapter 132.
After seeing Hanji’s exchange with Pieck, Levi says:
“…So, four eyes. yet another love for a titan gone unrequited, I see.”

So like what had been explained in the posts above, Levi comments on Hanji’s unrequited love for titans but implies that there is mutual love shared with someone.
With what happened in 126 in mind, who would be the most reasonable choice for that someone if not Levi? What if this was Levi’s response or way of acknowledging Hanji’s words back in the forest?
Just think about it. Hanji gives Levi something like a confession and then a few chapters later Levi suddenly implies that Hanji shares a mutual love with someone. The connection between the two events is not really difficult to make.
Like I said earlier, Levi not being able to form a direct answer is expected considering he seems to be the type who would be extremely awkward at love. Maybe he just needed time to sort his feelings first. Another thing to consider is they are both soldiers in duty.
Also can we talk about how Levi suddenly decided to call Hanji “four-eyes” again? It was like Levi is making an effort to go back to those days of normalcy.
Before anyone tries to brush this line off as nothing, I would like to point out that Isayama changed the kanji used in the dialogue in the volume release. This was pointed out in the tweet by @/kasumi_kasa as shown above.
The point I am trying to make here is that if this line is something we should just simply brush off, then why would Isayama bother making changes to it in the volume release?
The kanji in the original chapter release was 片思い but was changed into 片想い in the volume release. Both are read the same way (kataomoi) but just like what @/kasumi_kasa had explained, the kanji used in the volume release which is 想い, is indicative of a deeper form of love.
Also take note that the latter is an unusual way of writing unrequited love in Japanese.
Taking that into consideration and the implication of a mutual feeling with someone, does that mean Levi and Hanji share a deep form of love?
See the lengths Isayama is going through just for this one line? It really feels like the is trying to push something here.
Now onto Hanji’s side. If by any chance we are correct that Levi was indeed confessing his feelings to Hanji, then did the latter caught what Levi was trying to say?
In my observation, it is very likely that Hanji had caught on to it because of their seemingly flustered and hesitant reply towards Levi. The hesistance is present in the pause (the three dots) before Hanji’s dialogue.
“…We"ll be friendly in no time.”
Another thing I would like to point out is how Hanji suddenly diverted the subject.
This is actually kind of ironic if you think about it. In 126 Hanji was the one who is seemingly confessing and Levi was the one who brought up their duties. Here in 132, it was Levi’s turn to confess but Hanji was the one who brought up their duties.

My honest take on here is that it feels like Hanji was on the process of moving on and abadoning whatever feelings they had laid down in the forest so they could focus solely on their cause but then Levi suddenly drops something like this on them.
Hanji would be understandably flustered just like how Levi was in 126. Honestly in the end, both of them are just so awkward at romance.
So this is where I am gonna end this attempt at analyzing what was said in 126 and 132. I hope I was able to convey my thoughts properly. If you have made it this far then thank you.
If ever I am mistaken with my assumptions in here, it still doesn’t diminish the beautiful bond that Levi and Hanji share.

Missed chance, Yams.
imagine if zeke teased levi about hange in that forest scene when they were talking about his popularity with women ✋😭
zeke would probably go like "soooo... you're popular enough to capture your commander's attention perhaps 👀" and levi's like 😑 (but deep insides he's going "don't be suspicious don't be suspicious")
Yooo anonie I freaking love your HC 😍👌🏻
I feel like Zeke, as the smartass bastard he is, would see through Levi and realize that he hit the bull's eye with his statement. Or let's just say Levi isn't necessarily good at hiding his feelings with his pouting in that scene 😂 (my emotionally constipated bby ❤️😭)
So Zeke would def taste the waters with more daring provocations, just to make Levi freak out (I guess being surrounded by 30 soldiers in the forest for a whole ass month made him quite suicidal lmao). And Levi def snapped out when Zeke mentioned, with a dirty smirk on his face, how he might have a chance with Hanjo Danchou if the short grump is out of the way. It didn't even take Levi a sec to shove up his blades to Zeke's collar and make him regret the decision to have woken up the sleeping monster inside of Levi lmfao after that incident I don't think Zeke would've ever dared to look Hanjo in the eye out of fear Levi would slice him up 😂
Ngl I hated Zeke for a good amount of time, but I freaking looove the Zevi interactions. I can't get enough of these two cynical idiots spending so much time together teasing each other but actually being each other's archenemy. Yams should really reconsider his decision of dropping this idea, I can smell a lot of 💸💸
Oh well this was fun, thanks for the ask anonie ❤️ I'm terrible at writing fics, so if you're looking for someone who'll write you a really nice story based on your prompt, there are sooo many lovely and talented people in our fandom and they are def waaay better than me 😅 haha
I hope you still enjoyed my little addition as much as I enjoyed your HC ❤️ have a lovely day dear 🥰

Why I love LeviHan (a rant)
So I’m pretty new to the LeviHan community and I just wanted to rant about how much of a work of art this fucking ship is even though I have no idea whether Isayama did it on purpose or not. But damn, this ship literally introduced me to the drama of shipping fluff and AUs — two genres I used to avoid like the plague because never have I felt such adamance for a ship to set sail in YEARS since Percabeth back in high school.
To give some background about myself, the past five years, I was no fan of ships. Like literally, I tried to avoid shipping fics like the plague (for any fandom) because I was like “come on war racial war, zombie like monsters? Who has time to fall in love?” A lot of non romance shows don’t leave time for a relationship to develop and we literally just get a time skip where suddenly they pair people up together and I’m like woop good story but yo how the heck did they end up together.
In real life, I also did get into a healthy relationship with a guy, a slow burn after five years type and I thought yeah I’ve seen how I want a relationship to develop and now imma be picky as fuck with ships.
I did end up picky as fuck with ships but Isayama with the minimal screen time he actually gave this ship to set sail with probably minimal intention to actually confirm their ship got me climbing into this ship while it sunk canonically after chapter 132 because holy fuck ISAYAMA YOU MAD MAN.
Let’s talk about how they were introduced. Trost is destroyed. Titans are impossible to kill then whoop. We get a group of weirdos and outcasts who can somehow kill titans like crazy.
Strong titan slayer dude.
Strong titan slayer girl. (Hange is female to me.)
Cool commander dude.
Cool interesting characters. Eren’s dream team since episode 1. Two captains. Constantly together. Erwin is their glue. Nothing suspicious about that. They work together. They’re too busy fighting Titans to actually be considering a relationship right??
Besides, Hange and Levi are just way too different like
Levi is like *slash slash slash I hate titans u ugly* *slash slash slash eww titan blood* *slash slash slash kill Titans they’re all monsters*
Hange is like *slash slash slash oooh titan blood* *slash slash slash dont kill them i wanna dissect them* *doesn’t slash* titans make me horny.
Like sure we could argue opposites attract but there are more cases where opposite personality dating would probably backfire and with the idiosyncrasies of both parties at polar ends of the spectrum it just didn’t seem possible for there to be a spark? Like logistically they would tear each other’s hair out if they were stuck together in a relationship.
At that point, Erwin being the middle ground between both captain weirdos, I couldn’t help but think shipping Erwin with either of them would have been the more realistic option.
Season 2 had its fair share the first two scenes with Levi picking her up and the carriage. Didn’t see anything too sparky yet and yes the last scene where he could tell who she is by her knock. (but yes sparks flew in hindsight).
Season 3: Erwin the glue gets trapped in capital due to political reasons and only one arm. Two captains forced to combine forces to manage the survey corps in peril. They get their bonding moments like torturing some dude together and reflecting over the untimely deaths of Hange’s squad. (and maybe Levi’s squad too)
They separate while coup d'etat happens because their skills were needed elsewhere. They got to save Eren and like hours later in the cavern Levi was especially concerned about Hange when she got shot by the hook back in the cavern like you don’t see that concern with any other character except maybe Erwin. (But it can be argued that maybe all the other people he ever loved died too fast he never got the time to be concerned.)
All the way until the battle of Shiganshina Levi is usually with Hange.
When he’s not with her, there’s a reason (usually Erwin’s orders.)
When he’s not with her he’s thinking about her.
Then Erwin their magical glue of a commander does die and the captains gotta stick together even without the glue because they’re the last two surviving people in the old survey corps.
It’s apparent Levi hates the changes made to the survey corps because he still keeps the green cloak which everyone kinda abandoned. So it can be argued that Hänge was also that last bit of fresh air Levi had of the olden days.
So
they’re
together
in
almost
Every
Friking
Scene
Like you can’t blame them. Levi is anti social and traditional survey corps type.
Hange is still reeling from the loss of Erwin and her quick rise to power as commander.
They may have differing personalities but they had the same history. They both know loss, bloodshed and battle the survey corps brings that no one else probably understands to the extent they do.
And we get the bombshell of this scene.
Hange literally proposes to him that they just run away to the forest and just build a life for themselves and the cold harsh brazen Levi doesn’t outright reject it.
He instead acknowledges what he knows about her that she’ll never do that. This only confirms that they know each other too well, that they have a bond that exists between them which cannot so easily be replaced by anyone else.
And then a few chapters later
Dead.
And sure yeah Levi didn’t cry but like yo, the way Levi handled her death is worse than crying. We have never seen Levi react to a death like this.
Levi is holding on to the hand which touched Hange’s.
Levi just sits down in the middle of a pivotal scene and where he might end up fighting any minute coz like what’s life he literally lost everything he could have lived for.
Like sure people who don’t think LeviHan is canon would say “He’s injured. He’s tired.”
Just a few chapters ago though we got him ready to fight
"That’s the last person left of course it would break him more than anything"
That’s the point. They’re complete opposites they’ve been together for years and even if the chemistry wasn’t there before, even if they would never have gotten along at all, personality and logistics-wise, they were placed in a situation where their glue Erwin died, everything of the life they knew before, all their loved ones in the survey corps died and now they were left with the responsibility of managing what’s left and being the only two people with a shared history.
That literally set up one of the best places for a fucking romance to bloom. Yet the war and the circumstances just made it so hard for them to act upon it yet somehow the manga and anime were peppered with this cool understanding of
Yo I want you.
like maybe when we retire let’s keep in touch and I dunno have babies or something
But yeah yo we gotta fight.
Then Levi be like “Yeah babies be a good idea?” (Titans don’t love you. I love you.)
Death foreshadowing
Then Levi
Is
Fucking
Broken
Like we’ve never seen him before.
Wow isayama the madman didn’t need to build this masterpiece of a relationship from love at first sight, to confessions, to placing them in unnatural situations for sexual tension.
He built a subtle relationship out of necessity, out of the need for some humanity in this dark world. Two people placed at the lead at the forefront of this war, willing to adjust, willing to change and work despite their differences because they needed that warmth, they needed the reminder that there exists happiness and hope in this world which transcends all that bullshit they have experienced to that point until her death.
I really wish I could experience that epiphany again with another couple.
I applaud the subtlety of this relationship and the natural development of one of the best ships I have experienced in a long while.

Levi’s tantrum is too cute for my butt
Cold War between Levi and Hange: Part 3.2 - Double Date
Alright, picking up from where I left from the double date to understand Hange's cold war response to Levi over his choice at the rooftop.
Ok, so finally they reached Eren's house and this time Hange spoke (as in the manga).
I wanted to say how pretty this frame is and look at where Levi is looking at.

Everyone is looking in astonishment at the devastation of Eren's house, but Levi is looking at another angle.
I tried to double-check with the manga and noted that in the manga, it seems Levi tilted his head to look at Eren's house when they reached but Eren's house in the manga is on flat ground. In the anime, they are all standing on stairs and Eren's house and atop it. So there is no reason why Levi needed to tilt in a different angle. Moreover, when Hange asked Eren if that was his house, Levi was shown walking straight up.
So I am guessing that Levi is still observing and checking if Hange is ready to end her silent treatment after a short walk across Shiganshina. Remember they dont need words to communicate with each other🤨. And with new things to explore, Levi probably is also hoping to sense Hange's old vibes back.
---------------
Slowly back to normalcy
So I guess after a stroll, Hange's mood likely became better as the kids started to clear the debris to the basement. You can see here that Hange is slowly back to her normal self and she looked to Levi as she speak, as if looking for her usual audience. But now it is Levi's turn to throw a little tantrum at Hange.
I am thinking that his frustration started to build up and decided to do what he usually do to let off some steam - some leg exercise. He cant kick Hange in front of the kids, so he can only take it out on the debris. It is quite certain that he is not helping the kids because he is no where near the basement entrance. It could be out of his curiousity to kick around to look for any items worth investigating, or he could just be bored while waiting for Eren and Mikasa to clear the debris. But putting Hange looking at him as she finally speak her first words since Sasha's shut up at the Walltop, and his actions, I think it is likely he is frustrated too by the silent treatment and is showing it out now.
Thereafter, I think everyone tried to go back to nolmacy as they helped Eren to opened the door to the basement. Now, the blog I read pointed out 2 things. First is how Hange and Levi stood separately when trying to get the rock away, still putting a distance between them, and the second is how Hange is drawn to be excited after the basement door is opened in the manga, almost ready to go in, only to step back when Levi enter first.
--------------
Levi let it out

Now, I like this scene so much because at first glance, I thought Levi was just being his rough self. But I think about it, there could be a few reasons why he kicked the door down.
1) He is in a hurry to go back.
Why do I say that? He told Eren to hurry with the lock. And also likely he doesnt want to waste more time although the wall has been sealed. There are injured soldiers still that may need treatment. He needed to get back to Trost where the kids can be dismissed and he can settle the cold war with Hange, in private.
2) He needed to vent his frustration out. The little debris is not enough for him to kick.
Yes, I do think that this is a display of his frustration at Hange's silent treatment towards him. Remember that Hange usually will have a huge display of violence and destruction to vent her anger (all the collar grabs, table kicking etc). I personally feel that this display of physical aggression is not only his outlet of his own anger, but also something to tell Hange that he knows what is going on with her.
Now, in a therapeutic sense, Levi kicking the door is a transference of Hange's anger towards him, one that she had masked under her silent treatment towards him so far. (Her last words directly to Levi had been "He's dead"). Remember how he know when she holds it in, and she can tell him whatever she is holding in? This time round, she is not going to do that because he is the one she is angry at, and he knows it.

I just want to point out the expressions of them here, especially Hange.

The moment Levi said that he will open the door, Hange looked more shocked then Eren and Mikasa. Likely because she knew that this kick was intended for her. Probably in the absence of Eren and Mikasa, her ass would have been the receiver of the kick (cue Levi/ Moblit smartpass short story). Which is why Eren and Mikasa was still shocked but Hange knew the real intention of the kick, and finally, speaking to Levi directly now
"Hang...... on...."
----------------------
All's well that ends well (Levihan crumbs)
With Hange finally talking directly to Levi, this 2 can finally be back to normal and continue to investigate the basement. You know that Levihan is back in operation when their telepathy-ness is back to normal
- the way they tell Eren to open the door and the drawer.

I know we have been robbed of this scene when they finally reached the sea in the anime....

But they added this glance at the basement instead

Come to think of it. The basement discovery basically changes everything. The sea is the evidence of what they discovered at the basement, and even Hange cannot help herself to examine the photo when Eren took it out from the book.
Instead of looking at the photo which is an exquisite piece of "painting", Levi had to glance at Hange first before looking at what they (and by extension, the dream of Erwin) had discovered.
-----------
So I guess that glance is to really just to make sure that Hange has let off her anger. So yes, that is probably the first and only time the parents had a cold war and yes, Hange does have emotions too.

“The brunettes stood their ground and when the times became dire, they saved their Ackermans for one last time.”
The parallels of Eremika and Levihan 🩵
Just a short clip of the Ackermans' brunettes protecting and carrying their Humanity's strongests.
I think Eren and Hange are the only ones who ever carried them in the whole story. Cant remember clearly, but there you go!

Alright. I am going back to the forest scene in 126.
Now, all Levihan should be very familiar with this proposal aka IFKK analysis from a Japan native, Masta.
youtube
Of course, along the way, some people argue that this is Hange's attempt to avoid and run away because of the pressure she is facing.
Now, I present to you a different side of this scene, which tells me that Levi and Hange are already committed to each other for the rest of their lives, whether it is running away, or continuing to fight.

Even without her IFKK proposal, this statement from Hange to Levi, and Levi accepting it quietly as he listened on, showed that both of them already have some sort of an understanding, or arrangement, that they will be together until the end.
The difference is, they cant run away from their duties. So even without Hange's IFKK proposal, she already know that they will be together, or rather, Levi will be with her together, whatever the situations or their choices.
And Levi, knowing Hange, knows that she will not settle for a life away from action. He is ok to stick with her for the rest of their lives together, whatever her decision is.
Hence, they will not run away for the rest of their lives, but will fight on for the rest of their lives, together.

Levi did not fight his last fight alone. He opted for the thunderspears and decided that the only way left is for the Ackerman to end Eren.

Both are legacies associated to Hange.
Right from the start, there is very little that they know about the Ackerman's bloodline, except they are the warriors of the royal family.
Even after Paradise island know about the world outside and captured Marley's scouts, the knowledge about the Ackermann is still very limited.

But we know that Zeke knew a lot more about the titans, and that Eren also sought out Zeke's knowledge to stage his fallout with Mikasa and Armin.
These tell me that Paradise, basically know very little about that bloodline.

However, Hange was able to piece two and two together when she saved Levi and nursed him back.
It was also at the forest when she was mumbling to herself that the Ackerman cannot turn into a titan, based on what Levi had experienced.

And after Levi heard this, he used this knowledge to urge Mikasa and the remaining shifters to kill Eren at the end.

Even though Hange sacrificed and did not participate the the last battle, she used her most precious assets, intelligence, and working through Levi, paved the way for Eren's end.
The way Levi and Hange worked together, is too seamless. They really dont shine without the other. 🥺
