Rewriting the Live Action Mulan

Backstory: I heard lot of bad opinions about the Mulan Live action film, and had a conversation with my friend about how story writers manage to mess up so hard on such an easy task of rewriting. He told me pretty much to “stfu, rewriting movies is alot harder than it seems” and to “try it out myself”

I rewrote the first half of the plot of Mulan in 20 minutes. This ends off around the first half of the movie, please do tell me if it’s absolute trash or mediocre...

Introduce Mulan, she's asian girl, who is shit at what she does but works hard even though she doesn't like it because she's asian and can't be a disappointment to her family. Have the draft for war come, maybe change this scene, make her have to do a chore outside of town or get groceries at nearby place, have that place RAIDED she sees bad people fucking go HAM and runs away in fear for life hearing nothing but screams behind her, running until her legs give out and she hides for her life in a rice field. She returns the next day to the village after spending the night outside hiding, the draft is going on. She wants to protect her family but also is afraid of the evil guys, big scene very dramatic resolution of decision, maybe change it, rather than her honing her decision, she gets convinced to not go somehow, but as it gets closer and closer to the time his grandparent must leave, she fucking YOINKS the armor and weapons and shit and rides away on his grandparents horse or whatever, his grandfather chasing after, and grandma's angry but worried. Maybe as she rides away she cuts away at her hair, and her family is left only with her hair as she runs away. She shows up to the army, has to cross dress and begins the training but realizes she is terrible at it (like in the animated movie). As males are superior in some areas compared to women, she is obviously lacking in those areas, and is pretty low on the tier list strength-wise. I read somewhere woman are more balanced and flexible than men. Use this somewhere to make her viable combat and allow her to get good with this approach, maybe via some weapon emphasizing balance and flexibility. She continues to train and gains confidence. One day she and other low ranking people have to go to some nearby barrack to get materials or weapons, but when she gets there everyone is dead, people throw up, shocking scene. She quickly returns back to the village and finds that they are also getting raided, she and the low tiers go ham on the evil guys, but not until the big bad evil guy kills the commander (v well respected too lazy to add that prior to the plot, but v chill guy maybe hlped mulan find an area of strength). The bad guy biggie hurts commander and he ends up crawling back to mulan and the low tiers or something, the buddies use medical shit to close wounds and first aid, but the big bad guy baddie shows up trying ta finish the job. Mulan confident in her abailities goes and tries to 1v1 him, but ends up getting THRASHED, maybe big injury, maybe she just gets wind knocked outta her. Big baddie isn't interested in mulan, he wanna finish off commander, he knocks out the low tier buddies tryna fix up commander guy and kills the commander in front of mulan and buddies. Reinforcements arrive, but commander is dead as fuck, the bad guys retreat as they are also kinda bad off. All throughout this, the big bad evil guy is really badass and evil, no funny haha puns or dislikable qualities, he is unstoppable evil incarnate who hurts people just for the pleasure of it, and mulan and buddies don't stand a chance. Mulan is saved by the reinforcements, but hates herself for being so weak. Buddies feel the same. Mulan runs away from army not wanting to join in again and tries to get her family and the village to run away. Her grandpa is sick from worry so when she says she left the army, the grandpa is happy because she won't be in danger. When he asked how she was released, she lies that the army was really strong, and she was ranking low in the army so they let her go. Grandpa and the fam are relieved, they live a couple days in static happiness, but then Grandpa hears from gossip that the big baddies dominated one of the strongest units in the army. After hearing she ran away because enemy too strong, says to honor her promise of protecting him and don't run away, as soldiers protect the people from evil, running away means other people who stay and fight will be weaker and more people will die. In order to honor her resolve to protect her family she rejoins the army. This is a very sudden turning of opinions, as no parent would want their children to be in danger, maybe have a big argument with lots of feelings, and ending with heartfelt farewell as Mulan heads back to the army...
