Since there is an unfortunate lack of MatsuIwa centric fics, I decided to write my own and it's my first ever on AO3 so that's exciting!

Even the Strongest Pillars Need TLC- HanaIwa one shot

Everybody expected Iwa to be strong and in charge all the time, that's just how they perceived his personality and how he is with his friends in public. In reality, when he's alone with his friends, he's the opposite, he's still like a "doting mother" to them (Oikawa's words), but he can relax and let himself get pampered, especially by Makki.

More often than not, if he's not working out or with Oikawa, he's with Makki cuddled up to his side. He was looking forward to that after a long and stressful study session as he waited on the porch of his friend's house. It was an unexpected visit, but the wing spiker wasn't surprised when he opened the door to see the shorter male. He noticed how tired he was, he could sense the frustration from all the studying he's doing for finals. So naturally, he knew what he had to do.

"You can go up to my room, I'll make some tea" the taller man said with a small smile. He didn't get a verbal response though, just a nod before his friend tiredly waddled past him to do as he was told. Makki chuckled fondly and went to make a cup of Iwa's favorite tea for him to sip on while he was held.

This sort of thing has become a routine for the two since they began third year. He understood, it was a tough year, especially for the ravenette who was trying twice as hard in his academics so he could earn a scholarship he's been hoping for all year. As the friend who didn't have any big plans for after graduation, aside from working and maybe community College, he took the responsibility of taking care of Iwa when he was worn out from being their team's pillar and over loading his brain.

At first Iwa felt like he was burdening Makki, but the latter insisted that it felt nice to be able to be depended on and he enjoyed it. So now, it all felt so natural. Now he was leaned against his head board with the shorter man between his legs and laid against his chest while he sipped his tea and enjoyed the long and gentle fingers carding through his hair. Now it was all so natural. They weren't thinking of how they were before or what will happen when Iwa moves, it was in the backs of their minds but they were in the moment. They were both soaking in eachothers warmth and presence.

Iwa was so used to being a pillar for his friends but he loved when Makki would give him a break and take the load off his shoulders, even just for a moment. Makki loved holding the smaller man in his arms and make him feel cared for, he enjoyed being his rock. It may change in the future, and they may not speak about some growing feelings, but they know. But what they have now is priceless.
