nonoonono but wait. i had the Worst thought actually like--- this probably isn't true but what if iselda comes to the conclusion that the will of the D is to change the world through death. roger, ace, cobra--- they all arguably change the world during their lives but the bigger waves of change happen in the wake of their deaths. so with iselda putting these pieces together, she thinks to herself that she has two choices: to choose to live quietly for the remainder of her life and evade whatever fate awaits her thus taking control of it in her own way or to to DO something with whatever time she has left, overturn the world in life but also heading straight for whatever death waits for her, letting fate pull her in but at least she does SOMETHING.
and her actually writing a letter to law expressing her theory and telling him that for his sake, she hopes that it isn't true. for his sake especially because if anyone deserves to live, it's him.

au's for iselda ...
shipwright au ... most of the early part of iselda's lore still takes place but instead of ending up at the village, she is picked up by a ship on its way to water 7 for repairs. upon bringing her there, she's nursed back to health and is in a coma for a month. as she recuperates, her memories come and go. even after receiving the reports about ohara and nico robin, it takes a while for her memories to come back in full. navy ships and personnel come and go on water 7 and from there, she gathers information here and there. it's later that she meets franky and gradually befriends him, that she learns more about the government's corruption. as she lives on water 7, she apprentices and becomes a shipwright, and is later absorbed into Galley-LA. it seems fate would bring her and nico robin together, as she is still there when the strawhats arrive and joins the rescue team to enies lobby. from there, she sails off with the strawhats and becomes a part of their crew. [ however, i'm open to plotting a different outcome to post-enies lobby! another option, i thought of is she sails out on her own, continuing her mother's dream to sail the world in exploration on her own and later on joins the revolutionary army in pursuit of her other motivations to seek the truth about ohara. ]

haikyuu au ... iselda was a transfer student in japan and joined the shiratorizawa team. after graduating, she travels abroad and pursues other passions. however, she's called to coach/mentor the students, and she travels back to japan. she becomes a mentor to ushijima.
medieval au ... a knight serving as a weaponized arm of the land's royal family known as the celestial dragons. unbeknownst to iselda, she is the prophesied heir to the throne. this had been thwarted when she was a child when usurpers overthrew the last ruler and took in iselda as a young child, brainwashing her into becoming their knight instead of doing away with her. believing the celestial dragons to be divinity, she continues to do their bidding unquestioningly.
modern au ... an investigative journalist who endeavors to uncover corruption, greed, and unlawful practices from large corporations to cutting through governmental red tape.
detective au ... spurned on to join the academy and become a detective after her mother's disappearance, iselda is the headache of the precinct. often using out of the box and unorthodox methods in order to get results. however because of her stats of closed cases and captured criminals, she remains on the force. [good for crime prodecural/crime based verses/fandoms/ocs.]
jjk au ... iselda has zero cursed energy, but in exchange has incredible physical strength. with the use of her left arm prosthetic that has a function to detect curses, she is able to use that in tandem with weapons imbued with cursed energy. still figuring out details on how to place in her in-world. her school + history is not based in japan, but can be flexibly placed there for whatever reason since jjk doesn't make sense anyways < 33

born in the north blue to clover d. mavis, iselda is the grand niece of professor clover. though, she never meets him as her mother has been away from ohara on an exploration of the world for a few years by then. iselda's father is a marine who mavis nursed back to health after finding him shipwrecked and separated from his unit.
despite her wariness, the two fall in love and iselda is born. however, after seven years, her father wishes to return to the navy. holding onto her desire to travel the world once more and to continue her explorations, as well as the knowledge that as an oharan citizen could put herself and iselda in danger, they separate reluctantly.
on the island iselda is born, there's an oracle who reveals she knows mavis' secret as an inheritor of D. she foretells that iselda will bring ruin and chaos "at the appointed time".
iselda loses her arm at 10 years old after a traumatic event, involving bandits on an island her and her mother are exploring. the event results in her cutting off her own arm and nearly dying if it wasn't for the village's doctor.
while mavis' travels aren't with the purpose of finding information on the void century and even more so now that she has iselda, she finds important information regarding the poneglyphs and makes the decision to return to ohara.
on the way to ohara, the pair are shipwrecked and separated. iselda drifts for some time until she washes ashore on an island. the very same one where she'd lost her arm, and they nurse her back to help. she's about 14-15 years old at this point.
a few days later, the report about ohara comes in and she's struck with grief. her mother had shared brief truths about the island and their goal, but had emphasized this as a secret never to be revealed. days after that, they received the wanted poster for nico robin.
at 17 years old, the island is overrun by corrupt marines, seeking to extort money from the village and use the place as a secret base for their dealings. in the year that they occupy the town, iselda listens in on their dealings and hatches a plan to infiltrate the navy to learn more about the truth of ohara.
at 18, before she leaves to enlist for the navy--- as a show of gratitude to the town, she destroys the makeshift base and launches an attack on the marines left behind there while the others had returned to headquarters.
after successfully enlisting into the navy, she is first trained within a unit headed by sengoku, where she meets donquixote rosinante, but shortly thereafter is transferred to be trained under monkey d. garp.
she rises through the ranks to captain, but stops there as she doesn't want to owe more "loyalty" than she needs to do the world government.
she's deeply affected by the death of donquixote rosinante, dropping off the grid for several months before returning to the navy to fulfill her original purpose and to exact revenge on those responsible for his death.
she later joins SWORD --- on a mission with them, she comes across the revolutionary army. from there, she begins to help the army using the navy only in name.
by this time, she meets monkey d. dragon and learns of the inherited will of ohara. (more on present arc tbd).
possible in-world connections ... iselda's world is very open to interacting with anyone, whether pirate, revo army, marines, canon and oc alike. specifically, nico robin, trafalgar law, monkey d. garp, monkey d. dragon, koby, kuzan, doflamingo, etc.
additional information/plot points/tidbits ...
iselda is often late or just on time. she has been left behind a number of times and stranded on islands, needing to seek passage to her destination. she's also late to meetings, appointments, etc.
she pretends to have a bad memory. in reality, she has an excellent memory.
she's deeply conflicted by her position in the navy. regardless of her goals and her reasons for being there, iselda recognizes the conflict it presents to her own nature + belief system.
she has a casual obsession with being a D inheritor. although, she has come to realize that the path she has taken will likely result in her death, some part of her wonders if the reason she hasn't died yet is because the will of D hasn't yet found her death's purpose.

to build on that though, iselda doesn’t have any issue with nudity. it’s whatever to her. she understands why some gawk or feel shy. but, it’s not something she herself feels.
obviously, if it were used as a humiliation tactic, it might invoke shame but it would make her upset if it were ever something used on her or others. iselda herself has a healthy view of her own body and doesn’t impose her ideals on anyone else nor does she make invasive or undue comments on the bodies of others that could come off judgmental / shaming.
when she’s in her private home and off base, iselda often spends her time sans clothing, or with minimal clothing. it’s also the only time you’ll see her in a dress; usually a thin / lightweight fabric sundress. which is interestingly contrasted to her uniform or the layered look she might often wear off duty.

iselda’s hair grows abnormally quickly.
pre-timeskip, her hair hung down to her hips, but she often needed to have it up in a messy bun or piled on top of her head in some fashion so it didn’t get in her way. ( though, her favorite way to wear it is down. )
post-timeskip, her hair hangs mid back. but, it will eventually grow out to her hips again in a matter of a couple months or so.

when iselda is concentrating on a task, she'll often tap the piercing in her tongue on her teeth or drag it across the roof of her mouth. it's just a fidgety thing she does. it helps her not chew on the inside of her cheeks or her tongue which she used to do as a kid.

iselda's back between her shoulder blades, the side of her neck where her pulse point is, her waist and hips, and her inner thighs are her most sensitive areas.
she carries a lot of tension in her back, so any sort of touch meant to relieve pressure or express intimacy is pleasurable to her. it helps her relax and feel at ease.
