Sloth - Duchess of Sin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sloth. Originally the Judge of Heaven, this Angel grew weary of her job. The guilt she faced at the torturous punishments she doled out day after day ate away at her. Her final judgment was of herself. She threw herself down from the heavens and rose from Fallen angel to the Demon Lord of Sloth. Now she spends her days in quiet repose, so long as no soul dares to bother her.

Wrath - Duke of SIn
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Lord of Wrath. He was the first mortal to kill another. Only he knows the origin of the conflict between him and his brother. He would claim he was defending himself. That it was life or death and he came out the victor. If things had gone differently, his brother might bear this punishment instead. Perhaps he is right.
The heavens punished him for committing the first murder by twisting and contorting his body into eternal penance. Two spears protrude through his back out through his chest to symbolize the wounds that killed his brother. His wrists are bound with unbreakable manacles, forcing him to hold the spears.
Angered by the punishment, he took up war-hammers. If he must be wrathful till the end of time, he might as well enjoy it.

Lust - Palatines of Sin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Demon Lords of Lust, its cursed twin body, embraces itself. A mortal fell in love with an Angel. Imagine his surprise when she loved him back. When they consummated their love, the heavens punished them. The heavens tore the wings from the angel and ripped the mortal’s body apart.
To save her beloved, the angel shared her body and blood with him. The heavens punished this act as well by turning the mortal’s blood into poison. As long as they share a body, their form and existence are cursed.
The mortal’s body will never heal, and without the fallen angel’s form, he will die. She will never stop trying to save him. The fallen angel’s blood influenced the mortal’s body, and he grew wings from his mangled arms. He hides his face in shame, knowing that his love destroyed a perfect creature. As long as she lets him, he will be her wings. It is his penance.

Envy - Palatine of Sin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Demon Lord of Envy, one of the Seven Lords of Sin. An immortal being that desired to be an angel. The Heavens bound the creature deep into the earth, but this was not enough to stop its desire. Its envy.
Through corrupted magic, it changed its own form. Cursed and warped, it grew three sets of wings like the angels. But wings do not an angel make, and it is apparent to all who look upon Envy’s countenance that it is a twisted, malevolent creature.

Pride - Duke of Sin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pride was the first mortal and his sin was loving himself too much. For this he was punished by having his legs ripped off so he would never stand tall again. His face was marred so that he would never be able to admire himself again. Was the crime of loving oneself such an affront to heavens that he needed to be torn down? Regardless even if he is torn down and judged, he still shines bright and golden.
He's a very affable sort, so long as you do not mention his scars.

Greed - King of Demons
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Beautiful and beloved, he believed himself to be the most deserving of all the creatures in heaven to rule. He sought the seat of the most high, to be God himself. For this sin of greed, his eyes were plucked out, so he may never again look upon what does not belong to him. His hands were ripped from his body so that he may never again reach for that which is not his.
He was thrown down from the heavens and cursed. His body twisted to fit his new cursed existence. He sprouted new limbs, ever greedy. His lower half turned into that of a goat. His glowing wings of light faded to gold at the tips. He was truly fallen.

Phone Echos
On a phone call with my husband he started cutting out. I suppose he was driving through a rural area with poor service. We tried to talk to each other but the staticy staccato rendered our communication incomprehensible. No matter, this has happened before. I tell him I'll end the call and for him to call me back later when he's in an area with better service. I hear a garbled response that sounds enough like an "okay" and I tell him "I love you! Bye bye!" Three times to makes sure he hears me before I hang up.
In response I hear my voice back, "I love you! Bye Bye! I love you! Bye bye! I love you! Bye bye! I love you! Bye bye! I love you! Bye bye! I love you! Bye bye! I love you! Bye bye!"
Over and over my words echo back at me. More times than I said them to him. Undistorted and clear…and yet almost mocking. I hang up before I can hear my words repeated back again. I don't think that was merely a buggy echo created by speaker phone. I hope my husband calls me back soon… I didn't get to hear his response.

Gluttony - Queen of Sin
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There was no seat for her in heaven among the angels. She was never an angel to begin with. She was one of many creations before mortal man.
The creation of mortals would change her very existence forever. She did not love them as a benevolent creator or as their protector, so different was her love. Mortals were delicious, and she ate so many. She loved their taste, the warmth of their blood. Hearing the crack of bone sent euphoric shivers down her spine. Their screams were her lullaby.
For her sin of gluttonous murder, she was punished harshly. Her arms were ripped from her body and her eyes from her head. Her lower half was transformed into a prey animal, so she might learn fear. She was thrown into the darkest depths and grew pale. None of this stopped her hunger. Nothing could. Her escape and ascent were inevitable. She was the first demon.

My Mother was a House
My mother was a house. Inside, she kept me safe and warm. Her windows and doors kept the cold outside. Soft light filled every room and in that light, I knew I was loved. I spent my life growing inside the house that was my mother.
As I grew into myself, I felt an itch grow in me. An itch to go outside the house. I treasured the warmth, light and safety my mother provided, but I desired to know what the world offered.
I told my mother about the itch.
“The world outside is cold, dark, and dangerous,” she told me. “Better to stay safe with me.”
But the itch did not go away. It grew stronger in my legs and in my eyes. I desired to see and find places unknown. I stared out the window to watch the seasons pass and nature change.
Mother asked what I was looking at. When I told her the desire that still lingered in me, she shuttered the windows tight. Not a single ray of light entered through the windows. The house was the only light now.
Even with the windows closed, I did not stop desiring. The itch overtook me, and I paced in circles. Mother asked what was wrong, but I did not want to tell her. She took away the windows last time.
“I sense rebellion in you, child,” she told me. “Do you still want impossible things?”
I shook my head ‘no’, but she knew me better than I knew myself. She knew I was lying.
“Do you hate the warmth and safety I provide you? Do you truly hate me so much that you would abandon your mother? Would you leave this house to rot on the hill, uninhabited?” She asked, but did not want an answer.
My voice was small. “I just want to know what it’s like out there…”
“I told you it is cold, dark, and dangerous,” she said. “If you are so ungrateful as to desire that, then I can show you.”
With that, the lights shut off, and the house became dark. I stretched out my hands to find the wall. I knew the house well enough to navigate it, even without light. Or so I thought. My fingertips grazed the wall, but the wall retreated with my touch.
“You wanted to know danger,” she said as I stumbled around. Walls and rooms flew around me. Unfamiliar and terrible. I could not find my bearings in the moving darkness. I fell to the ground as the floor shifted beneath my feet.
The tip of my nose chilled first. Then shivers coursed through my body. I hugged myself to keep warm. It did not work.
“You wanted to know cold.”
“I’m sorry!” I said.
“For what? Be specific,” Mother told me.
“I don’t want to leave you! I love you, mom! You’re the best mother in the world. You keep me safe and warm and loved. I don’t want to leave! I don’t want to leave!”
The lights flickered on and warmth filled the room. Familiar walls surrounded me again. The house was as I’d always known her.
“I’m glad you understand, child. Mommy understands too that’s why she forgives. The world is not as forgiving as I am. Remember that.”
But that’s not what I remembered. The house no longer felt safe. Its warm walls and soft lights no longer felt as loving. I would always know the truth about the house. While nature changed, the house never would. Not as long as she kept me within her walls.

Caper in the Castro is a legendary video game, not because legions of die-hard fans continue to play it, but because it was thought to be lost forever. Now, what is largely considered to be the first LGBTQ-focused video game (it was released in 1989) is on the Internet Archive for anybody to play.
The game is a noir point-and-click that puts the player in the (gum)shoes of a private detective named Tracker McDyke who is, in case you couldn’t guess by the name, a lesbian. McDyke must unravel the mystery behind the disappearance of Tessy LaFemme, a transgender woman, in San Francisco’s Castro district, an historically gay neighbourhood.
OOOOOHhh!
The game was released as charityware – freely, with a strong request to give a donation an AIDS Charity of their choice. I’d like to push towards still following that and donating, if you’re able.
(And you might also want to donate to the Internet Archive, who is hosting it now, while you’re at it – they’re in the middle of a donation drive, and could use your support.)
