Ok. So.
Tawan, the little sap, totally falls for Vegas "proposing" to him, and it is the main motivation for him to try this plot to deceive Kinn.
Tumblr media
But I feel like this isn't the first time Vegas has put a ring on it to make a man do his bidding, you know?
So you can imagine how my mind went a turning when I noticed something shiny on Ken's finger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What were they doing indeed, Gun? What indeed. Now, I fully acknowledge that it could they could be different rings AND they are on different hands but what if? We all know that Vegas prefers to lull people into a false sense of security before he turns on the crazy. What could motivate Ken to betray the man he was betraying his boss for? Surely not more money, not for the wild chance Vegas would succeed this time. Maybe...for love?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So I ask you, my people,

This is a translation error, right?
Like - I fully believe Pete is the head of Tankuhn's bodyguards, in the same way that Big (and then Porsche) was head of Kinn's, but I never got the impression that Pete was head of all of them.
If Vegas had said the ‘most trusted’ or ‘loyal’ bodyguard, then absolutely - Kinn told us as much in the last episode:
Tumblr media
But ‘head’ doesn’t make sense to me. That's Chan's job, isn't it?

prompt: manipulate
Tawan paces his room. He isn’t bored exactly, the thrill of being back in the main family house is as heady as it’s ever been, but he is eager. It was always going to be a risk, worming his way back into Kinn’s life, but he’s succeeded in not being killed so now all that’s left to do is wait for his opportunity.
The room is bugged within an inch of its life, he knows, and he’s making sure the give whoever is monitoring him a show. He hopes it’s Kinn. The idea of him looking, pretending to no longer be interested, sends a thrill up Tawan’s spine. He’s confident it will only be a matter of time before Kinn gives in. After all, Tawan has had a good teacher.
It’s all he thinks about while he does his unnecessarily provocative stretches and cuts more and more material away from the shirts he’s been generously gifted. He thinks of Vegas watching him over the hidden cameras, Vegas’s voice in his ear telling him Kinn will be unable to resist, Vegas’s hands on his body, every touch a promise to the future they’re making together. Partners.
He touches reverently where the ring Vegas gave him should be sitting on his finger. He can still feel it— cool metal and Vegas’s warm lips both— lingering over his skin like the most delicious bruise.
Soon. Soon he can wear his ring freely, no longer held back by the main family’s prejudices. He could stop being a secret, and love Vegas as openly as he had loved Kinn, back when he had been young and naive and hadn’t known what was good for him. Vegas deserves that much. To be adored.
He certainly deserves it more than Kinn. Tawan had been reluctant and— though he never admitted it aloud he thinks Vegas knew— nervous to put himself in Kinn’s path again. It had been Vegas who convinced him that not only could he do this, but also had given him the drive to succeed. Now it was like a secret game shared between the two of them, and Vegas’s confidence at Tawan’s capability was a persistent glow that lights him from within. There’s no room for fear when he keeps Vegas’s words close to his heart: It will all be worth it, because it means they can be together.

Oh, I feel dumb - I always saw Porsche in this scene as just a bundle of nerves, after being put on the spot in front of Kinn's family. And I thought his upset look here was from making the same assumption as the bodyguards listening in: that Korn wasn't just forbidding him from being Kinn's bodyguard, but his boyfriend too.
But that's not it (or, at least, not all of it); Porsche is disappointed here because he didn't want to resign as Kinn's bodyguard.
I’ve only just realized that Kinn was acting all on his own when he went to get his family’s blessing - he'd listened to Porsche explain his problem with Chay and then immediately jumped to the rescue, without even telling Porsche what he was going to do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No wonder Porsche was being awkward in this scene - he was completely blindsided!
He's called into Korn's office out of the blue, held at gunpoint by uncle Chan (ha), only to find out his boyfriend confessed to his family and lost him his job. The job he's finally found purpose in, that lets him lean into his protective instincts to take care of Kinn.
And Kinn thought he was doing such a nice thing here too…

Vegas stands just out of sight of the dock, taser in hand, irritation crawling all along his skin.
In these past few days, he’s managed to draw out all sorts of reactions from his new pet. Defiance. Disdain. Generous helpings of despair — morphing swiftly into rage. Vegas cherishes them all, for a plaything that snarls back is a true novelty.
And then Pete had the fucking audacity to flinch. He had the nerve to look at Vegas with fear, as if something as banal as Vegas’s belt had been enough to break him.
The acid burning in his throat tastes like bitter failure.
The belting was a stupid idea anyway. Vegas is no two-bit villain. He shouldn’t have reduced himself to petty, blunt trauma. If only he had crafted the moment better — if he had looped the belt around Pete’s neck, perhaps, pulling it taut, thick leather biting into the tendons of Pete’s throat — yes, that would have been beautiful.
A clattering sound emerges from inside the safehouse, and Vegas’s head jerks up.
Looks like his idiot pet still has some fight left in him.
His mouth stretches into a cruel grin as he runs his thumb along the side of his taser. If Pete prefers his more unusual methods, Vegas is happy to keep things interesting.

KINNPORSCHE TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY EVENT
— prompt: favourite family
Pete slides into the driver's seat with a sigh. "So, you punched him because...?"
"He was being homophobic", Macau grumbles. "And he insulted you and hia."
Pete nods. He understands, but Vegas isn't here, so he has to be the serious one.
"Don't get yourself suspended just because of some asshole."
Macau hums in acknowledgement.
A moment passes.
Pete chuckles. "Did you get him good?"
"I think I broke his nose."
"Nice. Good job."
He offers Macau his fist and Macau beams as he bumps his own against it.
"Don't tell hia?"
Pete snorts and starts the car. "You wish."

One of my favorite quotes is “everything in life is about sex, except sex. Sex is about power.” Misattributed to Oscar Wilde.
Vegas absolutely understands this idea. When he tells Pete, “A guy like you, it’s no  fun if you don’t give in” It’s not about consent at all, it’s about power and manipulation. We already know that Vegas is willing to engage in some level of SA because we saw it on-screen, with Porsche, so it’s a bullshit idea that consent is that important to him.
In Pete’s case, though, there’s no power in him raping Pete. He already has him held hostage, under his control. There’s a chance Pete wouldn’t even fight back, just considering it another form of torture.
No, Vegas feels vulnerable and angry and that won’t do. He tries to get Pete to back off, with aggression — “You think it serves me right, huh?” and instead, Pete offers him sympathy and understanding. So Vegas defaults to what he does best  — manipulation  — to regain a feeling of power. You can see the change here, from the “real Vegas” he’s been showing Pete, to the fake one.
He manipulates Pete, first by saying that Pete likes him moody and angry. By implying his behavior turns Pete on, it takes the weakness out of his actions. Then he manipulates him by giving him a choice. If he can get Pete aroused and thinking about sex with Vegas of his own free will, he gets the ultimate power rush. Lusting after Vegas is a betrayal of Pete’s commitment to the major family in a way that Pete eating and even Pete staying by his side when Khun Spikes dies is not. Eating is for survival and compassion is for the other person.
I think he was genuinely surprised when Pete kissed him though. He’s gotten what he wanted. He feels like he has the upper hand back and he can leave cock of the walk once more. He underestimates and misunderstands Pete every step of the way — because he’s not used to dealing with people who aren’t playing a game at all times — and this is a perfect example. He tells Pete not to hold it in, and he doesn’t.
There’s no advantage to Pete choosing Vegas in this, unlike Tawan, or Ken, who are at least partially looking out for themselves when they betray Kinn. Choosing to have sex with Vegas was solely for Pete. That was Vegas, owning Pete’s desire. That was Pete’s desire for Vegas being more important than anything else.
By making Pete choose him though, Vegas gets caught up in his own snare. For maybe the first time in his entire life, Vegas isn’t second, isn’t also a means to an end. And when Pete gives in, it’s not tentative, not hesitant, not holding back something to have an ace in the hole. Pete offers him everything, and that feeling consumes him as well as Pete. And that’s how Vegas, despite his manipulations, gets captured by the game.

“Vegas made two promises to his mother. And from a very young age, he knows he can only keep one of those promises. He knows he can’t be a good person and keep his little brother safe at the same time.
or Vegas will gladly be the villain if it means his little brother doesn’t have to be.”

Prompt # 11 Favorite family  The Kittisawasds
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It feels like so much of Porsche’s personality is shaped by having to take care of Chay. That goofy, bright, happy attitude? Well, that’s the best way to convince a scared little kid that everything is going to be okay, which he had to do constantly because of their circumstances.
The fact that he almost immediately forgives people, no matter what they do to him? It’s not just that he devalues himself compared to Chay, though it certainly is that too. It’s also that when you have to depend on the kindness of strangers to survive, you can’t afford to hold a grudge. Surviving by himself is one thing, but he had Chay depending on him, so he learned to swallow it down. The one grudge we see him hold steady through the whole series is the one against Thee, who actively caused damage to not just Porsche, but Chay.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again. Everything about Chay screams how much and how well Porsche loves him. Even in their circumstances, he’s confident enough, brave, and bold enough to shoot his shot with Kim. He’s strong enough to not only confront Kim and ask for the truth instead of playing the misunderstanding/miscommunication game, but to cut him off and mean it. He’s determined enough to call Porsche out on his sacrifice play and try to force him to end it — only giving in when he finds out Porsche loves Kinn.
Despite the memories of Pat and Nampheung in that house, and whatever fuckery Thee was getting up to, they were, in reality, a family of two, boys raising each other in bad circumstances. Sure, they don’t always make the smartest choices, but ultimately the fact that they came out so well, that they are sweet, funny, decent, loving, generous, hopeful bright lights in the world is a goddamn miracle.

I've got thoughts percolating about this and future scenes - what Kinn's idea of family is compared to Vegas and Porsche, what's considered justice in the mafia and what's considered moral - but for now, I've got a question for you all:
If Korn hadn't gone the saner route of sparing Gun (while also taunting him with his magnanimity) - if he'd instead let Kinn decide, would he have shot Gun?
Going to keep to just the most basic options, but feel free to share your reasoning!
