Queen of Studies 📚
A small guide to adopt that study queen mindset
Ditch all social media you can. No Instagram account to scroll up endlessly, not checking the Facebook feed, no mindless scrolling, etc. If you use a social media, curate what you read. Declutter the time wasters. Only keep the accounts that genuinely bring you good. Uninstall games and useless apps. You'll use them when you're on vacation. Now it's study time, from the beginning of the semester TO THE END. "But I use them to uncompress!!" Bullshit you can do something more productive like workouts or cleaning your room. It's not an essential need.
Tumblr media
For food, focus on meal prep, get 4 Tupperware (or mason pots if you have) and prepare 4-6 meals (2-3 dinners, 2-3 suppers) that contain veggies, proteins, carbs, good stuff that feeds your body and brain. The breakfast is optional, I use my breakfast prepping routine to relax and ground myself before attacking my day. Doing 4 meals at a time is easy and not quite as daunting compared to the traditional 1-week meal prep, and it will stay fresh. You have more time to focus on what matters, you don't waste decision energy on meals and you're less likely to eat junk food.
Impose yourself a "no junkfood" rule in your room or house. You're less likely to spill and eat brain rotting stuff. If you receive sweets as a gift, stick them at the back of the freezer, and only take out ONE at a time. Drink plenty of water. More than you think you need. The body will declutter the excess for you. But never too little water. Prepare some precut veggies and have a stock of your favourite fruit on hand.
Get your sleep together. It helps with memorization and with sufficient sleep, nutrition and water, your brain can heal up and start memorizing efficiently the information you learn. Never neglect sleep. Never do late study sessions, instead planify better your study times.
Cut off people that bring you down. People that always bring you to parties and guilt trip if you don't wanna. They don't care that much about you. Cut off those that aren't serious in their studies, they don't realize the importance of studies and it's lifetime impact. If you can't cut them dry (block and move on), ghost them, don't reply their questions with a question back, be bland to them. A Queen only wants the best around her, and is ruthless in her judgement.
Once you start the semester, study every day, even if you have nothing to do that day (especially at the beginning of the semester). You can even get ahead in your studies and use the class as a refresher for what you did study. You'll feel more comfortable and have some questions prepared too! Figuring things out while it is being taught can be quite stressful. For laboratories, do several weekly hours of self-study, repeating the methods you learned. Use your teachers free hours anytime you have additional questions or need additional explanations, not only right before an exam. Take your time and speed up once you're comfortable. Learn to fail when it doesn't matters so you won't fail when it will matter.
Tumblr media
Re-read your notes twice or thrice or four times, annotate them, summarize every paragraph. Write a "fake cheatsheet" that summarizes every step of the semester. Draw some conceptual schemes, make links between concepts. Do all the excercises, and redo the hardest ones before the exam. Do the pratice exams, check the past years exams if they're available. They'll give you an idea of your teacher's exam style.
Studying bit by bit instead of a big rush at the end will help you immensely assimilate correctly the information (less stress = better memorization, and repeated study = the memory is more precise and you have less memory losses).
Doing a cardio workout everyday increases your brain power. It can be a 30 min energetic walk outside, it can be a intensive cardio workout, it can be a 1 hour yoga session. Pair that with a good stretch routine (that back needs stretches sfter that long study session!) and a muscle workout too to tone up your muscles and keep you looking sharp. Excercise helps you relieve your stress, and feel more grounded, and feel more confident. More confidence also means there's less stress, better focus, and better social interactions. Make it a fundamental tool in your study artillery.
Tumblr media
Combine several activities at the same time, you can watch movies while you workout instead of sleeping too late. You can study your biology while doing your cardio workout. Listen to audiobooks relevant to your domain while walking outside. Do your mask while you're doing your yoga routine. No wasted time, and no excuses.

How to Start Studying
Sometimes it's really hard and annoying to start studying so I've compiled a few tips that will help you to start studying:
1. clear a study space
Clean your workspace for 5-10 minutes before your study session so you’ll feel super motivated to get working. There’s something about having a decluttered desk that will make you feel so organized it will make you want to sit behind the desk & study!
2. get all the items you will need
all motivation goes down the drain when you have to get up multiple times to get every item you need so getting all the essentials before studying really helps.
3. grab some water and snacks
staying hydrated while studying is very important and you can never go wrong with snacks :)
4. get rid of all distractions
Turn off your phone or put it on DND to help you focus. Some people do study better with music but it's better to have music with no lyrics because if you are like me you will just end up singing and jamming to the song instead of studying xD
5. make a list
Write down all the tasks you need to accomplish, breaking the bigger ones down into smaller, bite-sized pieces.
6. start with something easy
The idea is that it’s something that you can just knock out without much brainpower but that doesn’t waste time. It also gives you sense of accomplishment and boosts your motivation to continue working.
7. use a system
I personally use the Pomodoro Technique. It’s great at keeping you focused. I usually study for 75 min and take a 15 min break since it works best for me. It doesn’t really matter what system you use to study – find something that works for you and stick to it.
8. make it a habit
If you turn studying into a daily habit, you won’t even have to think about starting anymore because you’re so used to it. Don’t question it, I just do it!
9. dont strive for perfection
Let that strive for perfection go, as it will take you a lot longer to finish the work. This will make your study experience less fun and more stressful which will make starting next time harder. So instead of wanting to do your work perfectly, try to focus on getting it done.
10. make it fun and enjoyable
burn a candle, put on some music, whatever helps you to get started.
i hope these are useful!! :) -love pika☁️

hello everyone! one of the barriers for getting into using anki is that making your own cards can be super super tedious. so if you're not ready to do that quite yet, here's some tools that can help you out. this is really geared to language learning, for other subjects definitely check out ankiweb because it has a ton of stuff for you
memrise2anki: lets you take memrise courses and turn them into anki cards
quizlet to anki importer: the same thing, but for quizlet
pull from duolingo: just like the last two, but takes the words from your currently active language and turns them into cards. only pulls cards you already know
migaku dictionary: puts a dictionary into your anki for whichever language you'd like - when you look up a word, it'll immediately let you make a card out of it and its definition and then you add sentences for context. chrome users can use the related extension for faster card making -- it also lets you use youtube and netflix & their subtitles and will take a recording of the video / audio to put into your card. i am using this now (without the extension, i'm a firefox user) and it's made things so much faster
ankiweb - people have probably already made decks for your tl, you can search here for whatever you'd like. commonly studied languages will have more specialized decks (and there are also non-language related decks here, if you're trying to get into something like history or geography!)
xefjord's complete language series: i've been following this guy for a while, he's been working on making a ton of anki decks for lots of different languages. check here for your tl, a lot of them come with audio

Quote
Here’s how you stop being average: When you wake up in the morning and need to brush your teeth, and you have that thought, “Oh, I should actually floss too,” then floss. When you go to make yourself breakfast and you have that thought, “Oh, I said I was going to eat healthier,” make the healthy choice instead of the unhealthy one. When you go to head to train for work and you have the choice between taking the stairs or the escalator, and you hear that voice in your head that says, “Oh, I said I was going to be more physically active,” take the stairs. When you get into work and you sit down in front of your first task, and you have that thought, “Oh, I said I was going to work on being more productive,” turn off all distractions and get to work—instead of browsing Facebook, for example. When you leave work and you’re exhausted and you have that thought, “Oh, I said I was going to work on my book this week,” don’t go to the bar. Go home and work on your book. When you get ready for bed and you feel like winding down, and you have that thought, “I said I was going to read more instead of watching so much Netflix,” pick up a book instead of opening a web browser. Being average is a choice—that’s what a lot of people don’t understand. You know what you need to do. And a tiny, faint voice in your head reminds you of what you need to do, or what you had said you were going to do, a lot more often than you might realize. Start listening to that voice.

The Day Of Your Exam
Realistic tips for the day of your exam that don’t involve gum or perfume
Wake Up Earlier to Look Over Your Notes
Get a good, early start. If you’re an insomniac/night owl person such as myself, you’ll want to do your best to get to bed early the night before
You’ll want to take this extra time before your exam begins to have a good breakfast, fully wake up, get ready for the day, as well as go over your notes
The day of your exam, you shouldn’t be learning any new material. We’re past that point. You want to just refresh what you already know. I.e. “Okay, the Seneca Falls Convention happened in the year 1848, right.”
I usually go over my handwritten notes, and also test myself using the Quizlet “Test” or “Match” feature
If you are studying a foreign language, use the “Spell” feature. You’ll want to be translating from your language to the foreign one by spelling the foreign one. This is a tip directly from my German teacher back in high school. I had her four years and she was a German citizen, so we had to know. our. stuff.
Bring Your Study Materials to the Exam
I ride the bus to school, so I also utilize that time to review my notes
Get to the exam room/your class early so that you can review while you wait for the professor
Study until the professor asks the class to put away all study materials
Usually, the study materials I bring to the exam are a handwritten study guide or my phone to use Quizlet.
Again, this time before your exam should not be a panicked, mad dash to absorb any new material
Don’t Fill Up on Too Much Coffee or Energy Drinks
If you don’t usually drink these, today is not the day to start
You want to avoid anything that is going to cause you to shake, or upset your stomach.
I also wouldn’t drink too much of anything period. You only have so much time to take an exam, and that time doesn’t stop for any reason
During the Exam
Look at what the question is asking you. Read it and re-read it. Slowly.
Try to answer the question in your head before you look at the answer choices, should the test have a multiple choice format.
If you are allowed to write on a physical copy of the exam, do so. Write. All. Over. It. Write little notes about what you know. Obviously don’t write a paragraph. I typically write my thought process in shorthand. This helps you focus on thinking through the question.
I like to circle words like “NOT TRUE” or “TRUE” or “ARE NOT” or “ARE”
If a question is asking you which of the following is true/not true of something, use check marks or X’s to denote that.
For example: Which of the following are types of intimate partner violence?
A) Intimate Terrorism  ✔
B) Violent Resistance  ✔
C) Common Partner Violence X
D) Situational Couple Violence  ✔
E) Mutual Violent Resistance  ✔
If you come across questions that are difficult, skip that until the end
This is a tip I learned from studying for the Law School Admission Test
Some sections will be “powered” or “reverse powered” meaning that questions will either gradually become more difficult to answer, or they will gradually become easier to answer. The LSAT rewards individuals for knowing how to take the test. Use this method when taking your exam. Do more difficult questions LAST, and answer as many easy questions as you can FIRST. This ensures that you at least got all of the easy points, and didn’t waste time getting stuck on a hard problem.
When you answer the question, make a note next to it whether you feel confident you got the answer right, you absolutely do not know the answer, or it’s a maybe.
I usually denote that like this:
Yes! I am confident I am correct -  ✔
Maybe/Unsure - ?
I seriously don’t know the answer - X
When you finish your exam, go back over the questions you marked with maybe first
You probably have a better chance of getting the correct answer on these questions, and going through the exam might have helped you remember something
Go back over the questions you are certain you got right/had the ability to get right
Just double check that you read the question and answer correctly.
Go back over the questions you feel that you did not get right last
After you go over your answers, check your scantron for errors.
If there was a short answer portion of your exam, re-read your answer two to three times.
Honestly, I like to take as much of the allotted time as possible, even if I finish before it.
If your professor begins to call times at 15, 10 and 5 minute marks and you have already gone over your entire exam a couple of times at this point, feel free to turn it in
After the Exam
Don’t even think about it for awhile
In high school and junior high, I saw a lot of kids whip out their notes immediately after the exam to see if they got certain questions right or not
Don’t do that, you’re just going to stress yourself out
Clear your mind, grab a snack, go home and take a nap, or get ready for your next class.
Typically in college, after you finish the exam you are free to go.
So be free and go.
Try not to obsess over answers your friends said they got, or how your friends felt after the test
Just focus on relaxing, and getting ready for what you have to do next.
Don’t beat yourself up if it doesn’t go your way
Learn from your mistakes
Plan for more time to study when the next exam rolls around
When you get your grade back, if you are able to see exactly which questions you got wrong, and your answers - check your work. Check your professor’s work.
They are human too and are capable of making mistakes.
If you feel a question was marked wrong that should have been right, say it like this:
“Dr/Professor/Mr/Mrs/Ms X? I had a question about number 15. The question says _____, and it says the answer is ____. I’m not necessarily saying that answer is wrong, but I also feel that __ could be a feasible answer because *cite course material*”
Don’t make it about your professor making a mistake. Academics are proud people. Don’t insult their intelligence.
Happy studying!

warning: history has typically been my worst subject - however, in the past year, i have managed to make my grades improve drastically! here are the three steps that worked for me:
warning #2: this is heavily textbook based, so if your class isn’t like that, go to step 3
STEP 1: READ THE TEXTBOOK time this should take: 10-30 min
so, this may seem like an obvious step, but believe me, i have known lots of people who don’t read the textbook until the night before the test!
instead of being like those people, i have a better idea - read the chapter one week before.
JUST READ IT
nothing else man this is an easy step
pay attention to these things, though:
event-based chapters
key events and where they fit into the scheme of things
impact of the event
society-based chapters
key trends !!!!!
TIME PERIODS R IMPORTANT
don’t take notes in this step because you won’t know what the important things are in the chapter the first time you’re reading it and you may spend time taking down useless information.
STEP 2: NOTE THE TEXTBOOK time this should take: 2-3 hours
so disclaimer: if your teacher puts specific stuff on the test, well, know specific stuff !!! otherwise follow these tips
for your outline, a basic chapter outline like this should be your skeleton:
Tumblr media
i will be using this for the rest of the post so pay attention to the color of the dots
this is for ONE section of the chapter - i’m pretty sure all of you guys know how the format of outlining works, i’m not going to bother explaining all that
but then i want you to go through each green section (see outline above)
if it’s short (<10 lines) i want you to note 5 key ideas
if it’s long ( >10 lines) i want you to note 8 key ideas
this way, you have a decent amount of specifics but you’re also not nothing things like “in 1211, frederick ii, duke of austria was born” and irrelevant things like that
if you have a section like the 2nd blue dot (no subtopics), i want you to also note 10 key ideas
hopefully by this point in time you have a decent amount of notes! don’t be too extra ( i know its hard, trust me)
STEP 3: HISTORY FOR DUMMIES (AKA THE FUN PART) time this should take: 1-2 hours
for me, this is the most important part of my notes
take your outline and CONDENSE IT A LOT
each of the orange dots (or the overall subheadings of the chapter) should fit into one page only
i typically use graph paper here so i can cheat and write tiny
this forces you to look through your information and decide what’s really important
you look through your information AND make it easier to read !!! double win!!!
this is seriously the key step - do this, and you will at least know the important points
here im gonna split it up again into event-based and society-based chapters
events: timeline!!!!! impact!!!!! cause !!!! things u looked for in the beginning
society: trends!!!! MAKE SURE TO PUT THE TIME PERIOD!!! (so u know when the development happened) cause & effect!!!!
(BONUS) STEP 4: SO NOW YOU HAVE THESE NOTES, WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THEM? time this should take: 1-2 hrs
PRETEND YOU’RE GIVING THEM TO SOMEONE
PRETEND YOU’RE TEACHING A LESSON TO SOMEBODY WHO HAS NO CLUE ABOUT THE TIME PERIOD AT ALL
if u have a whiteboard use it it makes it fun and dramatic
these 2 tips are really good especially the teaching thing i know for me my thoughts are so much more visible out loud or written and “teaching” them really helps
IF YOU LIKED THIS MASTERPOST PLEASE:
look at my notes on my studygram u can see my fabulous history for dummies guides
check out some tips for studying over the summer !!!
here r some tips for you if you’re not some magical unicorn who can do everything and make amazing notes like me
tips if u dont want 2 die in school
who better to teach you about how not to procrastinate from a former procrastinator
math: i have a love-hate relationship with it but i do get good grades so check out my advice so you can also have a love-hate relationship with it
