Different anon but I love all of this. And I definitely agree with it so kudos to you.
To add my two cents I definitely hope someone somewhere is having a very long and very difficult conversation, and I hope they are having a very bad summer because it’s not even just they fired Peter and Ryan thought he was fired once for a month.
It’s
they fired Peter.
They made Ryan think he was fired twice, once when Eddie was being sent to Texas, and then once that lasted an entire month while Eddie was in Texas.
They made Jennifer think she was fired. Like how do you have Jennifer Love Hewitt and fumble so much she has to call and ask if she still has a job or not ?
They made Anirudh think he was fired and then used him to play psychology warfare with the cast and crew for no reason while he couldn’t say anything.
All in the same season.
Like you should not be having that many important cast members thinking they are fired in the same season. And especially not multiple times in the same season. So yeah I hope someone gets to exp even a half of what they just put all of them through.
As for Tim. I truly do think after the two parter that man got pulled into ABC and had his coming to Jesus moment. Because the Disney up fronts? And he wasn’t there? That man absolutely positively LOVES to brag about himself and his genius writing and to talk about how clever he is. And there is no reason he couldn’t have been there. There’s no rule that says show runners can’t go. And show runners have gone plenty of times. And yet the man who had just like the week or two before the event took place I believe it was, called himself a god in an interview ? And he wasn’t there bragging about himself by choice ?
Yeah no I will never be convinced a conversation didn’t happen with at least him and the big wigs immediately after the disaster of 14-16.
I mean, yeah, that many actors wondering if they still have a job in quick succession is madness. If this was Tim deciding he's God and doing what he wanted because fuck everyone, he's a genius, and it failing spectacularly, then he's having the worst summer of his life. Because the season was solid until he decided to kill Bobby of all people and create absolute chaos. The show only had the budget they did because they were the most watched scripted show. The second they lose that stop and go from having 6 episodes in a row rated 8+ to one that was rated 2.2 right after airing, then he's in deep shit. Because this was not a genius move, it was shooting the show in the head. If Tim did this alone and unsupervised, then oh, boy, I don't want to be him. But again, it depends on how much was Tim going rogue and how much was discussed within the show. Either way, there are meetings happening.

I very very highly doubt that this was all Tim’s doing. Sure he’s calling himself god but there’s just no way he actually has that much power. There’s a reason this kind of stuff usually happens in series finales, when the networks no longer care. I think something else happened bts that led us here and they’re letting Tim take the full brunt of it because it’s easier because the general audience doesn’t care about/even know the names of the showrunner. I don’t know what happened but if it was truly a failed creative choice by Tim ABC could’ve easily forced his hand and included a short clip revealing Bobby to be alive before seasons end. Bobby’s death blew up the season and I do not believe Tim doing that on purpose just randomly for no reason other than he wanted to and then ABC just okaying that and just trying to move on from it. Whatever happened they’re keeping it hush hush but I don’t believe for a second that nothing happened and that it’s purely just Tim making a creative decision—that just does not make sense.
Oh, yeah, no, realistically there's no way Tim did all that alone. If we are real, Tim is probably the person they decided would take the fall for whatever actually happened. I do like to blame him for everything and he is the person deciding on the plot and the misleading script is crazy work and not telling Ryan or Jen of they were getting written off or not is a dick more and calling himself god before exploding the show is kinda insane when the show is about to go down the drain, but he would be breaking Peter's contract, there's no way he has enough freedom to just decide to do it. It is odd that we even have abc executives saying they didn't know it was gonna happen. Like, they really must want to keep whatever it was as under wraps as possible and putting the focus on Tim is to do that. Like, they had to approve reshoots, more time on set, delay the moving out of the fox lot, force actors to cancel other stuff, if Tim actually has the power to force all this to happen because he feels like it, then there's something really wrong.

I agree with your anon and you here. Not to sound too sympathetic to Tim 😂 But like...realistically, what could have happened, that was that significant, to result in this? Did Peter somehow cross horns with the wrong executive?! Idk but it's all SO strange to me in terms of how the network handled his exit. Let us not forget social media DELETING his goodbye post.
Then someone wrote in to DeuxMoi (which I know is not super credible) saying that Peter wanted to leave actually. I thought it was a strange message for someone to send to her but the reasoning kind of sounded like it could have been true (emphasizing no bad blood but admitting to being over the show creatively).
Yeah, no, because like the whole thing is so odd. The half fake leaked script, the oddly vague goodbyes, deleting the goodbye video, the very sharp turn the show took to kill Bobby, the way the actors are all being very weird about it. The sendoff episode wasn't about Bobby, no one posted a big emotional goodbye, Aisha edited hers so it would be more vague, they were goofying around the casket filming the funeral. Like, the whole thing makes zero sense. Tim being all powerful and unsupervised with the amount of money that show costs is an insane concept. Everything about it is rushed and poorly executed. There has to be a bigger reason. Not that we will ever know. I don't know if I trust deuxmoi, but like, there has been rumors that Peter wanted to reduce the physical part of the role, he's almost 60, it has to be taxiing, but the whole thing was handled so badly. Especially considering they set up a very good death for Bobby last season and backed out of it. If you're gonna kill Bobby, let him die saving Athena or something, not alone praying in a lab from ebola's cousin with 30% mortality rate that's not even airborne. Nothing about the situation makes sense and God I want answerssssss

Admiring your buddie stats and graphs and wondering: why was there a deliberate separation of buck and eddie in s6? Has this been talked about in interviews/bts stuff?
I have theories, the reasoning not was confirmed tho, just they said they did try to separate them and it hurt the show. My theory is that they knew s6 would be the last on fox from the beginning of the season so they needed to get Buck and Eddie with someone but fox was still censoring them, so they separated them to force the issues. Like, if people were cool with it then great, introduce new pretty women, keep them separate, but if people didn't like it, then get them together for the series finale. My favorite conspiracy theory is that the lightning was gonna lead to them getting together because the 6a drought did prove that people wanted them together and fox folded, but then abc bought the show and one of the conditions was that all things buddie would happen on abc, so they stopped the storyline and that's why their s6 arc is so all over the place, they aren't talking, then Buck is dead, Eddie saves him, they're on a date, they break up in a cemetery, then nothing until s7 literally pretends the divide between them after 615 just didn't exist. Mostly because we know there were some heavy reshoots for 6b, there was the tone shift, also the way that Oliver teased Eddie having a bigger part during the lightning, specifically mentioning Eddie losing his cool in a way we haven't seen before, that never happened. But yeah, I think it was because fox wasn't letting them write buddie the way they wanted so they stopped to show it hurts the numbers to get some freedom to play with them for the potential series finale.

like honestly. for real. if i was on my 49th hour of knowing i was bisexual. and on my first ever date with someone of the same sex. and that person publicly called me out for being in the closet and gave me shit about it in front of my best friend. and then (despite knowing ahead of time that i was just now figuring myself out, and also knowing that i had a super weird relationship with that friend, and also knowing that i was really nervous but excited to try things out) left me on the curb in front of a restaurant. after calling an uber and waiting until the car was literally pulling up outside to say oh - no actually this car is just for me; you can find your own way home. and then didn’t call me at all until my best friend who was panicking about his own relationship and who i had just come out to for the first time told me to call the guy so i called him and invited him to coffee to beg him to give me another chance. despite the fact that i never even did anything wrong in the first place. and i have a known history for sublimating my own identity in relationships that are wrong for me because of my anxious attachment trauma. and then i spend six months dating this person only to later find out that he dated my first love for years and strung her along to the point of being engaged. and then essentially left her at the altar when her mom was dying. and then called her crazy for dating me. and then dumped me. and then hooked up with me on a rebound and then said he was glad my best friend moved away because the competition was finally gone. like for real if I found out that people were rooting for me to end up with this guy……….. i would burn my own house down in real life.

Oh awesome 😊 Which ryliver vid/interview was this laughter in you mentioned?
Literally all of them lol, I had just finished watching the Stark and Guzman show, and that shit was crazy work, Oliver laughs like Zendaya all the time, not that Ryan is doing that much better.
But I will say that the live they did on facebook before 210 aired, that shit is CRAZY. S2 era ryliver was something.

The first time Eddie and Buck kiss, Eddie ends up halfway on top of him- and it's so good. It's so so good. Because the last time he was on top of him like this, Buck's heart wasn't beating. And Eddie wasn't breathing. Now, Eddie's hands land on Buck's chest and his heart thunders as if it wants to break free of his chest and thank him. Both of their breaths are stuttering this time because they can't stop for more than a minute without swooping back in for one more gentle press of their lips.

Eddie, Buck and Chris - 'Filling in the blanks' for missing scenes in Season 8
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's been almost two weeks since the finale aired and other than my fanfics and the recap I did on 8x18, I haven't posted anything regarding my overall thoughts on season 8. Even though I have a lot of them, I won't post them until I feel like delving into the many nuances because I'm still frustrated about the way things were thrown together at the end. Also, since I already know me doing a singular blog post would end up being too long, I decided I'll do them individually whenever I feel up to it, however, I won't be doing any constructive criticisms like I did after season 6.
Anyway, one of the nuances I decided to address today revolves around the way it appears both Tim and Kristen wanted/expected the audience to fill in the blanks they left in the main characters' storylines. Be clear, I don't agree with how they handled them because it takes a lot of mental gymnastics to come to the proper conclusion. Furthermore, since everyone interprets media differently, doing it that way could lead to the blanks being filled with erroneous information that's possibly influenced by one's own experiences instead of it being what the showrunner intended.
Tumblr media
I'm pointing this out because as I've stated numerous times, Eddie Diaz is my favorite character and for years he's been sidelined and treated like a side character instead of the main he is. Therefore, when his "Finding Joy" storyline was atrociously handled in seasons 7 and 8, it pissed me off. Season 8 was supposed to be all about him but somewhere along the line, a decision was made (I don't know if it was Tim, ABC or a combination of the two but it happened early in the season and it was around the time that Tim spoiled the episode that Eddie would shave his mustache) to either adjust or rewrite his storyline. Instead of giving it the focus it deserved, they only highlighted certain parts so that it would fit a specific narrative and it was the one they wanted the audience to see.
IMO, it was super weird for Eddie to tell Helena in 8x13 that she's not Chris' mother, Ramon isn't his father and that Chris was going to live with him until he's at least 18 years old, only for him to do an about face and leave Chris with them for who knows how long while he left and went to L.A. for the funeral. Reminder, Eddie admitted to Hen and Karen that he had no intentions of staying in L.A. as long as he had but he wasn't making any plans to leave until he got the call from the EPFD. (That was another fill in the blank moment and for those who may have missed it, he was still there because he was worried about Buck.) Since the writers had to leave the door open for Eddie to return to Los Angeles later in the season, I believe it's the reason why he wasn't allowed to really go off on Helena the way he should have in 8x13.
Tumblr media
It wasn't sufficient by any means and reminder, Helena's said some horrible things to Eddie over the years including, "Don't drag him down with you, Eddie." However, it appears if he would have brought all of that up during their conversation, the audience wouldn't have bought (I didn't buy it anyway and I still don't) the idea that Eddie would leave Chris with his parents so he could go to the funeral. They had to make it look like he was on good terms with them which made everything about that storyline feel even more ridiculous. In 7x10, they literally took a flight to L.A. and took his son away (which is what Helena's been wanting since before Eddie and Chris left for California) and they didn't make any efforts in trying to help their son reconcile with his own son. Instead, they were running around El Paso letting people believe they're Chris' parents.
Tumblr media
Furthermore, the way Chris felt about the game of chess in 8x13, appeared to be different than he felt during the first half of the season. Now, is it possible he never really liked it? Of course, it is but it's evident a lot changed during the 8A to 8B hiatus so there's that. Anyway, the point I want to make about the chess tournament is it seems like Tim and Kristen (I'm specifically identifying them since they wrote or co-wrote the worst episodes of the season, i.e., 8x14, 8x15, 8x16 and 8x18) wanted the audience to fill in the blanks and assume Eddie and Chris had a "conversation" about Shannon, Kim, Marisol, Eddie's parents, how things went wrong between them, Eddie's lies about being a firefighter and everything else during their 5.5 hour drive from Lubbock to El Paso.
Tumblr media
None of it was shown on screen but to wrap it up without having to actually address it, was lazy writing and instead of putting in the work, they just let Eddie drive up with Chris, then he went into his parents' home and started packing his bags.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Reminder not once in season 8 did Eddie and Chris have a conversation about those things in CANON and it's evident they were needed since the reason Chris left in 7x10 was because he saw Eddie with Kim the doppelgänger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, I think Buck mentioning "You're his dad. He doesn't have a mom" during their FaceTime call within the same episode that Eddie told his mother that she's not Chris' mom was LOUD and very telling. It was another fill in the blank moment and it appears viewers were supposed to understand Eddie and Chris had the conversation about Shannon that should have been included in season 6 but since the show only had a limited amount of minutes in the episode, they couldn't fit it in. Once again, we were supposed to use our imagination and reminder, that's how Kristen's been handling storylines since season 4 🙄.
To me it's seems like the writers skipped or leap frogged a lot of Eddie's important scenes and they expected viewers to just figure it out on their own without having any concrete evidence. It's on brand since Tim expected the same thing in 8x1 about the bees because instead of someone literally explaining what happened to them and why they disappeared, he let Buck mention how they don't like the cold and they wouldn't be bothered by them again. It was a one off that was supposed to wrap everything up in a nice little storyline package but lots of viewers kept asking about it on social media which caused him to address it in an interview.
Be clear, I don't like any of this one bit and I think it's asinine for them to spend more than 80 minutes in two separate episodes (8x16 and 8x18) on emergencies that viewers couldn't care less about. Listen, while I empathized with the woman who thought her baby was still alive, the truth is I don't know her and I'm not invested in the character because just like all the other one-episode characters and guests, she's gone. I know the reason she was there was to help Athena work through her grief but what about everyone else's since they love Bobby too? Also, Graham, the cart cop got way too much screen time in the finale. Donnie did too and so did his girlfriend along with the woman and her mother at the beginning of the episode. The actress who played the mother, Constance Marie has been in numerous TV shows and movies and just like they had Malcolm Jamal-Warner in season 7, they could have utilized their time better but they didn't. Since Tim's adamant about spending a lot of time on guest stars, it would be to their benefit to make sure when they get well-known actors and actresses, they would incorporate them into the storylines a lot better while still keeping focus on the main cast. Instead of giving Bobby a proper send off for his Last Alarm and adequately wrapping up all the other main characters' storylines, they shoved those important moments into the last five minutes of two episodes and it was completely ridiculous.
The point of this post is to highlight the fact that while each episode has a limited amount of time, the writers and the showrunner aren't adequately utilizing the 42 to 45 minutes they have to work with.
Live Post-mortem
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The pacing was off and it's evident from the "microphone that was accidently shown in the frame over Buck's head" in 8x17 (see the two GIFs above and note that it was removed from the post-mortem version even though it was there when it aired live) that a lot of the episodes were rushed to editing. Whenever storylines are changed, it affects everything from the scripts to filming which pushes everything back and causes issues with the release of stills, production, editing, promos and everything else.
Instead of focusing on giving the mains actual character development, they spent most of the time they had on guest stars that viewers will never see again and hopefully that will be fixed before season 9. Otherwise, next season could end up being another one with newer versions of guest stars like Brad, Gerrard, Graham and others who'll be gone after the episode(s) ends while the mains will be stagnant and it'll prevent them from displaying any growth.
