I caught a virus that’s been going around that lasts around 3 weeks so I probably have abt another week to go with it. And it’s pretty awful tbh. Fever, migraines, weakness, extremely sore throat.

On top of that I’ve had really high blood pressure and had to be put on meds for it :((

As soon as the virus is gone I’m attacking my drafts/asks I owe. What great timing for this to happen right? :/

It had been a month or maybe a little longer since Terry and Dana had mutually decided to break off their relationship for good. They agreed that they just couldn't give each other what they each really needed, but they remained friends.

The two of them had quite a few 'breaks' beforehand, each and every time-- his mind wandered further and further from Dana. Instead, back to another love in his life.

Melanie...

Even then, he wondered if he should approach her again. And when it was official that he and Dana were over, he had wanted nothing more than to go find Melanie. Terry managed to resist that urge previously. His feelings on the idea were conflicted. To say the least.

Besides being a former criminal... Melanie had lied to him, well-- lied to Batman. Which didn't feel great, but it had to count for something that she might've done things differently if she knew it was him. He liked to think so, anyway.

That wasn't all though. He didn't want Melanie to feel to him, like a rebound. She didn't deserve that in his mind, she was so much more important to him than that.

And he had no idea if she would even feel the same way-- after the way things ended last time. He acted pretty coldly in the moment towards her, after all.

But now... Terry found himself in the diner she now worked at. Enough time had passed and he was allowing himself to finally see her. Even if she rejected him, he didn't want to waste anymore time. Terry would give them another chance, if she was willing.

Although, truthfully, that didn't stop him from feeling at least a little nervous deep down. He noted how late it was, close to closing time. As he sat at the table, Terry hoped that Melanie hadn't taken the day off. I would be in line with his luck.

"Your day is ruined?!" And things were going so well until... well... he wasn't even sure what happened exactly. There was a lot of blinding light and suddenly he wasn't in Gotham anymore.

Erica Coe, Black Spider-- was a hitman the Bat had been tailing for a while now. And finally he'd just had her on the ropes before they somehow ended up here. Wherever here was.

Terry had apparently been mistaken for the bad guy in this situation, since out of nowhere he'd been attacked by this stranger in a different spider costume.

Unfortunately for him, Coe decided to attack her rescuer when he came to release her from Batman's restraints. Now she had created some distance between them-- and her wrist mounted weapons were automatically trained on the two of them. Considering she had like six arms, and a weapon on each one, this wasn't going to be easy. "I nearly caught her before you showed up!"

He wasn't about to give up, but Batman was worn down from the first part of his fight with the hired assassin. And his com-link was no longer working as far as he could tell. So it was just him, Black Spider, and the other Spider. There was no telling who's side the latter was on either.

CAN THEY USE CHOPSTICKS? Yes. WHAT DO THEY DO WHEN THEY CAN’T SLEEP? Terry puts on very loud music, meant to be danced to. It sort of makes him feel like he's free to finally relax and can sometimes even fall asleep while dancing if he's listening to it in it's intended setting. WHAT WOULD THEY IMPULSE BUY AT THE GROCERY STORE? Junk food or maybe something like cereal. Something easy and quick to eat that he still considers tasty. THEIR COFFEE ORDER: Either loaded up with sugary substances... or straight up black. No in-betweens. WHAT SORT OF APPS WOULD THEY HAVE ON THEIR SMARTPHONE? The basic ones to follow (news, weather, calendar etc.) games, maybe some learning/homework apps, popular social media/video apps of the time, food recipe and nutritional information apps. HOW DO THEY ACT AROUND CHILDREN? Depends. Terry is not immune to the older teen being annoyed by younger child stuff... but he's also very good with children generally. He knows what to say to comfort them in serious situations and knows how to make playtime more fun for them. WHAT WOULD THEY WATCH ON TV WHEN THEY’RE BORED AND NOTHING THEY REALLY LIKE IS ON? The news. If he's not enjoying anything else, might as well stay on top of things, right?

The fourteen year old didn't know whether to feel comforted by those words or not. They were pretty harsh, in his opinion. But maybe they were what he really needed. It hadn't been too long since he'd taken the mantle of 'Batman' -- not too long since the murder of his father, Warren McGinnis.

Terry tried hard not to show that he was still in the process of grieving. Given the horrible things he'd said to his old man beforehand, it was sometimes all he could think about.

"You think I don't know that?" His tone was just a little angry. But those feelings weren't directed at Bruce himself... Of course, how could he expect to hide anything from Mr. Wayne? Of all people.

He crossed his arms over his chest, subconsciously shielding himself. The anger in his voice dying down quickly. "I'm trying to keep moving. All I ever do is keep moving." It was really all he knew to do. Anytime anything went wrong, no matter how bad it was, he would just take it and keep going. What else was there to do, after all? It wasn't in his nature to lie down and give up. He was too stubborn.

"Look-- I know you mean well..." And Terry was sure the old man did, despite the content of the message. "But you don't have to worry about me. Besides, don't we have a case to solve right now?" Those 'accidents' at Foxteca for example. Surely they were more of the priority right now.

Being bound to the schedule of a teenager wasn't the best thing for Batman, Terry will be the first to admit. Having heard about the incident at the University while on the way to class from his lunch break, there was nothing he could do to go help without playing hooky. Which wasn't something he could really get away with, given his record.

Already, based on the name he heard on the report, Terry knew he would be a busy little bat once school let out. The anticipation made the rest of the day drag on, to be honest. Crane. It was a name well known to many Gothamites. And one he especially was familiar with, given that he was told often about the old man's past encounters with criminals. Sure enough, as soon as he could contact Bruce, Terry was given the suggestion to go pay the other old timer a visit. Truthfully, he wasn't sure what to expect as he made his way there, once he was suited up. Thankfully, Terry was well acquainted with the care center's layout, thanks to previous check ups he did on Carter.

Wayne transmitted images and reports to Terry so he could absorb all of the details in regards to the incident and Crane himself. He hadn't seen what the guy currently looked like until now. It was a bit shocking, how much he just didn't look the way he'd expected. As for taking out those goons? Well he saw Bruce do something similar before so that part didn't surprise him as much.

There was no way the health care officials would let Batman or Terry see Crane if he asked, so into stealth mode he went. Bruce occasionally made observations about the way he was going, but otherwise preferred to watch the feed from the suit.

As he passed them, Terry noted that many of the staff near Crane's room made idle chit chat about how strange it was that the man kept asking to be locked away. And then talk about how the doctors said to give him some space when one nurse thought out loud about visiting him, since he was kind of like a celebrity.

Good. That meant he had plenty of time to check in on the old guy himself, without worrying about being interrupted.

With practiced ease, the bat slipped into Crane's room undetected while a nurse quickly brought him some food and left. Looking at the man, even Terry could tell he wasn't quite all there at the moment. It was no wonder the doctors wanted him to have a little breathing room.

Bruce's warnings to be on guard echoed in Terry's ear. This used to be a formidable enemy of his, and Bruce surmised that Crane may be suffering from at the very least, mild hallucinations. Those warnings did not fall on deaf ears, the Bat readied himself mentally to do anything he had to if something went wrong.

Uncloaking himself, the pitch black silhouette of Batman became visible once more. From this angle, he towered over the man in the bed. Terry's voice was kept at it's usual 'Batman' tone, but there was the hint of his playfulness sneaking in.

"You're not gonna be scaring any birds in that condition."

SABBATICAL.

@2ndbat Professor Jonathan Ichabod Crane wasn't exactly the most popular man in Gotham City. He had the respect of his students, his colleagues... and a few of his former criminal compatriots. Every now and then, his mind drifted to the Society - had Luthor finally kicked the bucket? Had Grodd found his secret to immortality? Were either of them still there? It really didn't matter, except to illustrate the depths he had once sunk to - and the depths that clawed at him once again. Bodies littered the lobby of the Humanities and Sociology building of Gotham University, most of them broken beyond recognition, but still somehow breathing. The sixty-eight year old professor wields his cane with the dexterity and grace of someone four decades younger, and cracks skulls with as much precision as a surgeon. By the time the authorities cleaned up the other buildings, Crane was left in the lobby, surrounded by the unconscious bodies of gangsters, wheezing and collapsing against his cane. His once blue overcoat was now a deep red, and as police flocked to him to check his condition, he reflexively holds his hands out, waiting for restraints. The restraints never come. Instead, he is met with only confusion, except for from a vaguely familiar face. The commissioner, Barbara Gordon. "Crane." Her voice is laced with what feels like venom, but she keeps her gaze level. He can barely speak, his lungs screaming in protest as he does so regardless. "Arkham. Take me... to Arkham."

Crane would soon find, of course, that Arkham had been demolished. He remembered, of course - destroyed, after what happened with Joker. Still, he was going to the next best place, the Leslie Thompkins Medical Center. They still didn't put handcuffs on him. He was just defending himself and his students, or so they said - but he could feel the shadows at the corners of his vision coming alive once more. The police cruiser stops outside the hospital, and Crane steps out, leaning heavily on his cane. The officers who guide him in are gentle - they don't drag him. He realizes it must be because of his bruised body. They'll have time for the handcuffs later. Where was the Batman? And that pesky bird that always followed him? "Fools." He snarls, under his breath. "Fools, all of you. You think I cannot harm you, because I am old? I am the Master of Fear, the Lord of Terror! When I tell you to restrain me-" His words seem to fall on deaf ears and he huffs a bit more, but doesn't bother. After a visit with a doctor who is more concerned with his body than the fact that Crane could kill him with a single blow, he finally gets a cell. They had to be convinced (did they wish for him to just sleep outside?), but he finally got it, along with a set of warm, fresh clothes. The TV (why was there a TV in his cell) is set to the news, and, predictably, they're covering tonight. "-University found itself attacked by a gang of Jokerz, though casualties were minimalized thanks to the heroic efforts of Psychology Professor Jonathan Crane." Was she joking? There was nothing heroic about what he had done. He can feel the end approaching - it was only a matter of time before he relapsed completely. His vision was fading, the old burlap monster returning.

///I should clarify (and I will in my about page too) while I do like the idea of Matt being Terry's Robin, it's an eventual thing for my blog's canon in most non-displacement verses. Because of my Terry's default age, Matt would be too young for me personally to be comfortable with it by comparison.

Okay so starting with things that I read completely through a few years ago. Dick Grayson clones. Not sure why Amanda made these. But the only real thing I personally liked from Hush Beyond was the introduction of a new Catwoman. I also liked that she broke the trope of Catwoman/Batman, making her much more unique to herself. As much as I like Selina/Bruce (and I do), a new generation of something doesn't and shouldn't have to be a carbon copy of the original. Which I think is why I like the cartoon so much. They played with a lot of the same tropes, but they tackled them in different ways. Because Terry isn't Bruce and these villains and problems aren't the same. (except for Viktor)

Next, JLB... Well I have it in my rules and about... but, Zod/Superboy had a great initial backstory. He was the son of Jax-ur and was born in the Phantom zone. Superman and the gang rescue him and Supes adopts him. Would have been great to leave it there. However, they ruined it, the idea of what the Justice Lords actually are, and Wonder Woman all in one fell swoop. Before this arc, these comics were actually going pretty good imo. Please read them and stop as soon as you see Wonder Woman or "Lord" Superman. But then every other comic at the time suddenly was doing something with Earth 3... so I guess maybe they were pressured to as well? Either was this arc sucked. They decided to treat the Justice Lords like Earth 3 characters. Which doesn't work if you actually watched those episodes. Even if you ignore the fact that Luthor's device took their powers AWAY in their episode... The Justice Lords aren't """evil""" versions of the JL. They're versions that go to the extreme to keep people safe. There's a very big difference here in characterization. To add them into the plot and just have them be like --- generic evil superman??? doesn't work. You haven't comprehended anything if that's what you got from the Justice Lord's cartoon plotline.

And they set this up with Wonder Woman from the DCAU having decided to go back to the Justice Lord's universe to help fix things. She's apparently been there the WHOLE time. It's very in Wonder Woman's character to help those in need so I'm okay with her hopping over to set things straight. But she also feels responsibility to her own world, there's no way she'd stay that long EVEN with the romance sub-plot they gave her and Justice Lord's Batman. And any look around my blog should tell you WonderBat is my jam. I go for that in a plotline. Well it helps me hate that plotline more actually, because they had "Lord" Superman kill "Lord" Batman. To stop the fighting "Lord" Superman and Wonder Woman agree to have a baby. That's Zod apparently. Which was squirreled away to the Phantom Zone with Jax-Ur. None of that makes any sense at all ever. It made so little sense it actually makes me really angry. lol. Wonder Woman would never agree to something like that AND "Lord" Superman has never ever indicated that he wanted something like that. Nor do I think he would have killed "Lord" Batman. Considering, the reason they're all the way they are is because they failed to save Wally. HHHH Anyway. Later comic plots I remember hating. Terry is missing and for some reason past/current timeline Tim has the Beyond suit. NGL, if you put anyone besides Terry ( MAYBE Bruce) in the suit, you've lost the plot. You don't get it. Just leave please. I will not see it. Even worse, they made Terry the main villain of that plot line. Brainwashed, but still. :') Not a fan at all of any of this.

Oh there was also a little comic that took place in the past where Barbara revealed to Bruce that she was pregnant with his baby. And Bruce urged her to get an abortion that she didn't want. First off-- I never liked the Bruce/Babs stuff in the cartoon to start with. Second-- Bruce would never. He is so dad coded. :/

And now for things I've seen in passing.

Just getting this out of the way rn--- I assume they've killed Mary McGinnis off due to the boys living with Bruce now and the way Terry talks about her. I don't typically like when series fridge their female characters but, I feel kinda indifferent kinda "Well of course they did, why am I not surprised?" about it. We really didn't get much for Mary in the cartoon besides the fact that she's a normal, caring, single mother. There's not much there. Barely got any time on screen with Terry and most of it was just lecturing him or telling him about whatever chores he needed to do. So maybe that's why it doesn't quite bother me as much as other women's deaths in comics. I still don't particularly like the move, but there are worse things I've seen so far that make me more upset. Probably would have been fine to just have Mary living there with the boys and Bruce instead tbh.

Also weird, it FEELS like everyone and their mother knows Bruce is Batman, the way everyone talks to him. Which is also just weird to me.

Anyway, Damian... Damian.... Where do I start. This one feels like the Justice Lords problem. There's already set up in the cartoon that would contradict what they did. They had Damian running the LOA from what I can tell. He still had Goliath. Which was nice I'll admit. But 1) Damian wouldn't WANT to run the LOA. 2) I highly doubt Damian would have been okay with what his grandpapa did to his mother. 3) They played it off like Bruce knew about Damian from what I saw. Bruce would never allow Damian to be raised by the LOA if he knew abt him. As I said earlier, Bruce is dad coded.

Then there's Matt. Well I like Robin Matt as a concept. I like the circumstances of it being an emergency as to why he took up the mantle, I like that Bruce recognized that if they didn't train Matt, Matt would try to do the hero stuff on his own. What I didn't like? JOKERS BACK AGAIN BABY, HERE TO BRAINWASH THE NEW ROBIN!!! Seriously, how are you gonna rehash a plotline that was already done LEAGUES better. Please let the stupid clown stay dead!!!!!!!!! That's all I got in me to rant about today. On a nicer note, I still don't know how I feel abt Batwoman, but I like that her design is very Kate Kane but with Nightwing's color palette.

you're encouraging, brave in your kindness, and intentional about bringing healing to all those you love. your warmth is obvious, but commonly misunderstood. at first glance, people may take your positivity as naivety; it is the opposite. you have seen the cruelty of this world, and that's why you choose to be recklessly warm. you find comfort in nature and love random acts of kindness. you probably remember one specific stranger really well, even though you never saw them again. but they gave you a bit of warmth that you carry with you everywhere you go.
