it's a funny thing that less than a third of what appears on my feed(s) right now is about Ferguson and Michael Brown. A very easily identifiable crime against humanity has been committed, and by all accounts there will be no penalization for it. further still, the internet will probably not even keep much of a log of it. not funny like ha-ha. not funny like I'm feeling righteous or judging others. just funny that most actual human beings who make even the basest attempts to respond to oppression or at least recognize it are virtually silenced right now. silenced by Content with a capital C. buzzfeed, vice, your national news and the rest of the media continuum have already posted listicles and holiday gift guides between their SEO-friendly coverage of the matter in just the past few hours since the (I shudder at the term) ruling. it's just that the fucking stream continues. I'm wrestling with what the role of entertainment and social media is. I'd like to take the easy-out of saying that distraction has its merits, as it allows us to be soothed when we see something so dehumanizing that we need escape. Yet I would try to reserve the right to acknowledge that there may no longer be any injustice hideous enough to shake the stupor of retweets and memes. pretty much hate being born into the generation and privilege (yes, the P word) that has to/often doesn't bother to navigate these waters. more so hate myself for being lucky enough to even be able to make that distinction and be born into a caste that has no direct frame of reference for this experience. I guess I just wish there were black and white (for once in my entire goddamned life: NO PUN INTENDED) answers for this shit, and feel even more frustrated that my general life apathy makes me a commentator and a not a catalyst of change. I hope that everyone can find peace tonight. except for the fucking detritus incarnate that systemically allow for this cycle to tumble round again and again. fuck you until death.

Aw, man. This is such a bummer.聽 I thought you would be so much fun to get to know, but you can't even exhibit common courtesy to me. I just so happen to be ballin' out of control and it would not be becoming for me to get shit on, time after time, by a dude who is clearly not interested. We already have to (potentially) work together. So I'll be stoked to collaborate and learn, but let's say ixnay on this get together and keep it on the profesh. Cheers.

LIKEstylez marketINC
tho I find marketing, advertising and any work pertaining to sales to be vomitrocious, I am enjoying working with social media.
genuinely engaging with strangers is really hard for me on a personal level. to be given permission to solicit the attention of strangers for the sake of engagement and entertainment is actually quite freeing for me.
at the job I'm working for summer/fall, I get to talk to people who love cinema and care about making feel good with their work. being responsible for "social" "channels" is kind of the easiest way to interact with that.
today I talked to individual members of an audience that are genuinely passionate about experiencing things AND the people who are having those experiences. I even had the pleasure of inviting an entertainer to join us in our mission...
this post is losing its focus but man it made me feel better to talk TO people rather than AT them for once.聽

MY PIX 4 #CIFF2014 - FEATURES, NON GALAS
Spent a lot of time thinking this over. Didn't want to jump the gun and endorse anything I didn't completely believe in. Between screeners, synopses writing & overview and the thousand other steps along the way, the following are the feature films I would be angry at you if you missed during the coming festival period -- September 18-28.聽I've left off shorts, Galas and weird special little things because there's enough to choose from as it is. These are all things that you could quite easily get a feel for yourself at calgaryfilm.com
BORN TO FLY: ELIZABETH STREB VS GRAVITY A documentary about artists who are also dancers who are also acrobats who are also action heroes. Not only is the visual sensation of their feats deeply affecting, who they are before, during and after undertaking such profound challenges left me in awe.
THE EDITOR Do you know horror? Do you really know horror? How do you feel about Italy, the 70's? Take Suspiria or any of the great giallo classics and run them through an even nerdier Cabin in the Woods/Scream treatment with deeper affection and scrappier sensibilities. Certified Canadian, grotesque and hilarious.
WHIPLASH It slayed at Sundance, Cannes and TIFF. What you need to know about this movie has already been said again and again. Obsession and human limitations are pushed so far that you'll hardly recognize it as a Music on Screen selection. Don't blame me when you miss the chance to cheer it on at the Oscars.
JEWEL FOOLS Though contenders this year are arguably stronger than ever, the Albertan (and Calgarian) film I am dying to see most of all is Jewel Fools. Made by a young crew with a festival history, Jewel Fools is the definition of a diamond in the rough. Perfectly executed laughs offset the inspiringly DIY action that drive this heist-romance grinder's mission.
MOMMY It's Xavier Dolan for Christ's sake. For those of us who already considered him to be utterly and entirely perfect, it's the most delicious of treats to see him raise familiar themes to a new level of immediacy and poignancy. This one sells itself.

running themes and relentless idea
things that continue to come up in my mind no matter what judgment I cast upon them
-club culture can instigate spiritual awakenings but most often just imitates them
-misogyny exists and seems unquellable. maybe it is.
-"an interactive expose on how sampling in music and Vine are the same thing" by a digital media expert and an under-recognized resident advisor collaborated on.
-the end of free rides for journalists
-is dnb the next thing after trap music? like in that same vein? or is it not hype beast basics but a new awful sect of ravers?
-will horrorcore/juggalo be within the next 3 waves of ironic and influential fashions in music?
-is there a modern riot grrrl? is there a collective spirit behind rebellious music made primarily by females today at all?
-is tv binging my worst addiction?
THAT'S ENOUGH

more fucked up shit from today
Flood fever. It's real. My 3 hour long commute home had about as many bizarre encounters as an average 6 months spent on transit.
-walking with a young mentally challenged man, a guy turns around and asks for a pen. we don't have one. "you boys don't carry a pen? how are you gonna get girls' phone numbers??" me, though he's not listening: "digitally, I suppose". Him again: "Unless you're.... GAY lovers". Me: "No, we are not."
-waiting for a train at Bridgeland. a man in business casual asks politely for some change for the train. I'm not carrying any. he then asks for a smoke. I provide and him fumble through his pocket and drop an inhaler. me, in jest: "you have asthma and you smoke?" him: "no, it's just for a lung infection I caught at the drop-in centre from all the fucking retards and drunks there. you know, I usually have a lighter. one of those fucking retards took it because sometimes when you're drinking and you leave one around someone steals one...." this goes on unintelligibly for minutes. I try not to engage. It doesn't work that well.
-As the man continues to ramble, mentioning Halifax as a queer-ass city, a man across from me has trouble keeping his shoes on and is giggling about it maniacally. after giving up on his shoes, he turns on the flashlight of his smartphone and begins playing some horror movie theme. this is hilarious to him and he begins to "oooooooooo" along, in a manner he must have felt was frightening.
-the train approaches soon after. I leave a respectful distance for people to exit before boarding. an older man gets a bit closer than is necessary, since he probably could really use a seat. a burly man in all denim very intentionally pushes him as he passes. disgusting.
-I've arrived at my station and am crossing the catwalk to the stairs. a man brushes at my bag as I pass telling me "yo I could snatch that if I wanted". I stare coldly as he tells his friends he doesn't want no fake shit and my bag is fake because this and that. it's a shitty topman bag and I have no pretense of carrying designer goods.
-lastly, I stopped into the family run liquor store near the station as I have to wait for my bus and wouldn't mind a little wine to forget the day with. the owner and a customer are having a screaming match that, though lengthy, I could not deduce the origin of. all I can tell is that the customer is being asked to leave and getting very aggressive. the clerk phones the police and the man still doesn't leave until about 3m into the call. I feel awful for the clerk and as I pay he makes sure to explain me which races of people steal from his store and how he knew this guy was due to his skin colour. my pity evaporates.

I shouldn't known things would change from good weird to bad weird
YO
I haven't used this thing in a while. Partly because I've been busy working for a festival and restaurant simultaneously, partly because I've been living amidst a natural disaster and partly because I change my feelings about tumblr everyday.
Some encounters that occurred today really unnerved me and I knew I wanted to tell people a little bit about it. I hate repeating myself, so here it is in one place for the reluctant people I have bugged into venturing into the fowl little corner of the internet.
Calgary just experienced destructive flash floods. This caused the fest I've been working for to cancel and subsequently a lot of pop-up shows and gatherings were sewn together by our exceptional community. Everything was so unusual for a few days but in such a positive way. That ended for me today. Many bizarre encounters were had today but I thought this deserved an entire post.
After a staff meeting I went to a lovely charity bbq with some coworkers/friends. From there, I had to use the highly disrupted transit system to get home. I had many strange encounters which I'm chalking up to flood lunacy and a lack of headphones; the best defence mechanism against unwanted attention from strangers.
A young man boarded my first bus shyly, with a slightly older man asking the bus driver questions about how to get to the NE of the city. The bus driver was clueless so I volunteered to show him since I too was heading NE. The man politely thanked me and got off. The younger man (let's call him Mike) got on but didn't really acknowledge me. The older man (let's call him Tom) came back and encouraged Mike to sit with me. I coaxed him into making small talk after his initial timidness. Mike was lucid but clearly a little different in mental capacity than the average person. I assumed Tom to have been a professional caretaker of some kind or at least a Big Brother type. After some talk of the weather, I asked Mike about Tom. Mike told me that Tom is his best friend, they were hanging out today and that they had met on transit. He also tells me that today Tom called him sexy.
I was aghast and had no idea what to say. "That's... unusual". Mike says he has known Tom since November, after meeting on transit and receives a call from him to check up. Tom asks for my number and I am reluctant to give it. We speak on Mike's phone and he graciously thanks me, offers to take me for coffee or at least give me a Tims giftcard. I refuse and try to gracefully end the conversation. Mike speaks with Tom once again, ending their conversation with "I love you too". I'm subtlely accumulating more information on Tom from Mike out of concern. He lets on very little but doesn't seem secretive, just a little scattered. Mike's mom calls to check on him and (thank God), he recounts the "sexy" story to her as well. After he hangs up I ask if his mother found the story funny. She hadn't. She had found it inappropriate.
Mike asked me why his mother might feel this way. The following is probably the most difficult thing I've had to tell someone, recounted the best my memory will allow for. Bolded text is me.
"I have a best friend too. We hang out a lot but we never call each other sexy. Do you think Tom was kidding around when he said it?"
"I don't know. Why?"
"Because it's not something many people say in seriousness to someone that they consider to be their friend."
"Because it might hurt their feelings?"
"Actually Mike I think sometimes it can hurt more than your feelings. It can mean that someone wants something from you."
"Like what?"
"Like... well... sex. Some people think if they have a friend who is a little different from other people they can do things to them without their permission because they think there will be consequences. This is wrong and no one has to let someone treat them that way. I want you to be very careful about who you spend your time with and to take my number in case you ever feel unsafe. I don't think you should see Tom again."
*vague mumbling, seems to take me seriously but can't express his thoughts*
When my stop approaches, I remind him to contact me any time he thinks he needs any help and that I will try to do whatever I can. I hope this doesn't sound brag-y or self-righteous in any way. I just found it completely insane that I could just walk into a situation like this by complete and (maybe) make a positive difference.

Petter - Some Polyphony
*discovered via Scuba x George Fitzgerald take BoilerRoom*
This song does everything you want it to in the order you least expect it to. House's lavish excess and persistence with deep slices of bass and the affecting click of garage drums. I just...
I intentionally chose this particular upload based on 2 things:
associating an exposed, universally appealing ass with well thought out, visionary uk dance is too funny. and,
funnier still, the website name edmtop.com. much like the larger (w)hole of gay culture, in the world of edm, we have tops and bottoms. DIS URL IS FOR EDM TOPS ONLY!!!! I dunno, it was funny in my head.
