High-Water Mark exhibit. Works by Yu-Wen Wu. ---- HIGH-WATER MARK High-Water Mark is a multimedia, regionally specific installation by Boston-based artist Yu-Wen Wu, curated by Kristina Durocher, Director, Museum of Art of the University of New Hampshire.

Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Wu’s family immigrated to the United States soon after the enactment of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965. Her experiences as an immigrant have shaped the themes of her work: examining issues of displacement, movement, assimilation, culture and identity. High-Water Mark focuses on rising sea levels, storm surge flooding, and the projected displacement of people who live in the New Hampshire and Maine sea coast region. The exhibition video and a large-scale wall drawing represent the wanderings of someone new to the region, a visitor surveying the landscape, city, and its surroundings with fresh eyes – Wu is the proverbial migrant, making connections between natural and built environments, cultural systems, and seeing relationships between past and present that will help us navigate an unfamiliar ecosystem and an environment in flux.

While relying on hard data and scientific research practices, Wu’s visualization of data—video, maps, and graphs—is a metaphorical reading of a changing environment, incorporating filmed scenes of the tidal waters of the Piscataqua River, sites along the North and South Mill Ponds, coastal wetlands, and sky, emphasizing the aesthetic experience over narrative characteristics. Viewers will come away with an impression and awareness of the impact of rising sea levels on the Portsmouth region.

Who will win this year's Project Upcycle?! Join us for the Runway Event, become part of the thrill and excitement, enjoy tasty bites and beverages, and celebrate this year's designers!

3S Artspace, Recovergirl, and Goodwill of Northern New England are once again joining forces to promote regional designers and sustainable fashion in the 2nd Project Upcycle design competition.

Eight designers will put their skills to the test in this wildly creative and fast-paced design challenge, transforming secondhand clothing provided by Goodwill of Northern New England into a gala-worthy outfit! The design challenge takes place March 28-30 and culminates in the Project Upcycle Runway Event on March 30.

With the support of community role models, designs will be modeled on the catwalk during Saturday night's Runway Event and you're invited! Designers will compete for cash prizes and will be judged on execution, creative reuse of materials, and styling by our elite panel of judges. As an attendee, you'll also have the chance to cast your vote!

VIP Experience: By purchasing a VIP ticket for Project Upcycle, you receive special behind-the-scenes access to the Meet & Greet. On Thursday, March 28th at 7pm, watch as the designers and the community role models meet for the first time, take a look at the Gallery space where all the sewing will be taking place, and see the competition begin as the designers choose their first item of clothing to upcycle into their designs from a mountain of possibilities!

The VIP ticket also includes a complimentary drink ticket for both the Meet & Greet event and the Runway Event and a swag bag of goodies!

Prizing: A cash prize will be awarded to the top three designers. First Prize: $1,500 Second Prize: $1,000 Third Prize: $500

3S Artspace presents Sound Body: a site-specific mindfulness workshop in the Gallery @ 3S Artspace.

Sound Body is a chance for audiences and participants to retreat into a space where everyone is nurtured and cared for, and invited to share that experience with everyone in their community when they leave, to take that experience and build on it, in their own way, which coincidently is how the jazz tradition has always worked. ---- What can you expect? Musicians will compose music designed for the unique sound properties of the Gallery at 3S Artspace while teachers across yoga, meditation and reiki disciplines lead participants in movement and mindfulness practice. Attendees are invited to participate to the degree they feel comfortable, merely as viewer, or to fully take on the meditation and movement guidance provided. ----

How Sound Body came to be: This collaboration was conceived when musician Jonny Peiffer heard bandmate Zach Lange warm up his trumpet in the Gallery at 3S. The generous resonance of the space came alive and created a unique combination of sounds that seemed to grow, not dissipate. Peiffer immediately imagined a concert of music composed for and performed in the Gallery at 3S Artspace with its unique sound landscape. He approached Beth Falconer, Executive Director, who was thrilled to help develop and support this program. 3S is committed to cross-cultivating arts experiences by bringing performance into the gallery, and visual art to the whole facility.

For three days in March (March 16-March 19), 3S Artspace handed over its gallery walls to 5 muralists from across the Northeast. Our 1,600 square foot space was primed, painted and ready for the participating artists to each compose a roughly 20' x 25' painting without restrictions on material or subject matter.
