Concept: Forever obsessed with the idea of Makoto turning himself into everyone’s ideal of the Ultimate Hope.

That in an effort to keep everyone’s spirits up he destroys his own in the process.

Because that title is cursed.

Because to be the peoples hope you have to transcend humanity itself and make yourself into a symbol instead of a person.

There’s a reason Izuru Kamakura was created through the erasure of Hajime Hinata. It was the only way for that kind of beibg to take form and even then Izuru was considered a failure.

Now imagine putting all that strain on one traumatised person who just narrowly escaped his own death and was thrust into such a position.

It’s not a pretty picture.

Maybe that’s why Makoto knew exactly how to bring Hajime back.

And just Hajime adjusting to things, accepting himself and seeing a shadow of himself in his saviour. The horror on his face at Makoto’s scarred smile.

It’s like looking in a mirror and watching it break before your eyes.

No one else seems to get it and why would they? They put this pressure on him to begin with even if they did so without realising it.

The only one who questions it is Komaru because shes the only one who remembers what her brother was like before. He came back but something in him changed forever.

She hears him cry from the shower when he thinks no one can hear him.

Makoto waves off that somethings wrong because it can’t be. How can anything be wrong with the one who keeps exceptions together?

So what if he’s falling? He did it before and lived to tell the tale. Besides for all he’s done, all the people he’s sentenced and the lives lost on his hands…

…It’s his punishment till the end of time.

Now, admittedly, I only thought about this for like two seconds, but:

Makoto exists on a sliding scale between Mondo and Chihiro, and if you push him too far in the Mondo direction, he turns into Kaito.

So there's the aggro-to-pushover x axis, and the passionately people-minded to passionately principle-minded y axis. Is this anything? I did not perform analysis before doing it, lol.

Things I love about Heiji and Shinichi (as someone who hasn’t read much of the manga and is about halfway through the anime):

🔎 The way that Shinichi is instantly impressed by Heiji’s deductive abilities. He respects Heiji’s skill to such an extent that, solely out of concern for what will be discovered about him, he decides—unhesitatingly and while feeling deathly ill—to accompany the Detective of the West on a (seemingly non-murderous) case investigation that he pointedly had no interest in otherwise (Episode 48).

🔎 The way that Shinichi tells Heiji—the boy whose life has been so defined by comparisons to his father (and later to Shinichi himself), who is so insecure that he constructs unnecessary competitions in an effort to feel as though he’s worth something—what essentially amounts to, “You don’t have to prove yourself to me” (Episode 49). Despite the temporary antidote wearing off and making it a considerable effort to even remain standing, Shinichi is still sure to let Heiji know that there isn’t any competition in detective work—that “[t]here’s no winning, losing, above, or below when it comes to logic… After all, there’s always only one truth.”

🐛 — Oh DEFINITELY. I like to think that Andy's INCREDIBLY self-aware. To the point that he hears the background music, question certain events, etc. (think Don't Hug Me I'm Scared) so more often than not, when he's alone in his room, he just. stares off into space and contemplates his life. Existential crisis!!!! 🤩 (Whenever that happens, only Thomas would be there to comfort him or answer his questions. He WOULD go to his friends for comfort but he doesn't want to put the burden of being self-aware on them)
