For this week's #handtoolthursday, I present myself predictably jumping on the latest bandwagon. For $10, it's not a bad little tape rule. . . . #handtools #stanleytools #handtoolwoodworking #woodworking #tools https://ift.tt/2M4RSu5

For #handtoolthursday I present this @lienielsentoolworks scrub plane that was literally delivered 5 minutes ago. This plane was a gift from somebody (you know who you are 🤗) that has given the opportunity to contribute to this amazing community in other ways while I focus on being a father/husband and not in the shop. A good scrub plane is vital to #handtoolwoodworking! . . . #woodworking #handtools #handtoolsonly https://ift.tt/2MiMZCx

For this week’s #handtoolthursday I present this wacky spalted maple scraping plane I found for a few bucks recently. It is lovely, if not a bit clunky - it does need a good bit of TLC though. I may try and reshape the tote a bit at some point. . . . #handtools #handplanes #handplane #woodworking #handtoolwoodworking #spaltedmaple #furnituremaker https://ift.tt/2Oi4sZl

How are you supposed to calibrate a level when you get out your Pappy’s old level because literally nothing is level? . . . #woodworking #handtoolwoodworking #starrett #vintagetools #workbench #handtools https://ift.tt/2LJix0h

When my English floor chest gets cluttered and unusable, I take 15 minutes to clean it out which always leaves me in shock seeing how much it comfortably and easily holds. This was the first thing I ever built (before I even had a bench), and I built it watching the @lostartpress video from @popularwoodworking detailing how to build such a chest using plywood, glue, and screws. My execution is kind of embarrassing now but it still works really, really well. I plan on building a Dutch tool chest soon, and this one will be relegated to power tools and random bits. #woodworking #handtoolwoodworking #handtools #toolchest https://ift.tt/2O8Wj9J

I call this piece "Dutch Tool Chest (Some Assembly Required)". Look for the finished version sometime around winter 2019. . . . . #procraftsmanship #procraftsmanshipguild #2019goals #dutchtoolchest #woodworking #handtoolwoodworking https://ift.tt/2mmcBzh

I think putting castors on the bench was a pretty good idea. One of the benefits of working unplugged is being outside with the family. . . . #woodworking #handtoolwoodworking #handtools #nicholsonworkbench #handtools #handtoolsonly https://ift.tt/2mgiCgE

Well, I didn’t get the center stick or the leg vise completed, but away it goes into the corner until the next time I have the opportunity to get some woodworking done. I gave up my shop space because we needed more storage, but I can’t fit my anarchist tool chest in the garage just yet. #procraftsmanship #maybenextyear #woodworking #handtools #nicholsonworkbench https://ift.tt/2KpCqgd

Lol. Found this piece of history cleaning the shop - remember when everyone and their mom was making tricked out crosscut sleds on YouTube? I don’t even have a table saw anymore. . . . #woodworking #tablesaw #crosscutsled #2014 https://ift.tt/2IHV8tI

For #handtoolthursday I present the tools I’ll use for some some hot late night bench flattening action tonight. Winding sticks, straight edges, card scraper and planes. My @lienielsentoolworks bench planes (No. 8, No. 5½, No. 4) are augmented by a No. 62. Why a jack plane AND a low angle jack? After the 300th time I heard @lostartpress talk about putting a heavy camber on jack planes I finally did it - works great for removing stock quickly. @lostartpress also recommends NOT having a premium jack plane, instead opting for a vintage Stanley. That obviously hasn’t sunk in yet. Taking 2 minutes to increase the micro-bevel and tighten the mouth on the No. 62 is the easiest way for me to deal with tear out. So that’s why I have both ready to go. Also because I like looking at them. I could probably do this whole job with a No. 8 and the No. 62. The walnut winding sticks from @redrosereproductions are a joy to use but sometimes I revert to the ones I made with a bit more contrast for when my eyes are tired after staring at a computer all day. . . . #handtoolwoodworking #handtools #woodworking #nicholsonworkbench #latenight #overit #handplanes https://ift.tt/2tOdfZL

It’s nice to have a few pipe couplings on hand to make the super long pipe clamps when you need them, instead of storing super long pipe clamps when you don’t. I had about ½” rack adjustment to do before I finished screwing down the top. https://ift.tt/2KwJyqa

So now it’s midnight and I’m playing with this silly quilted poplar instead of finishing the top of my workbench. You guys have officially pushed me over the edge. #woodworking #handtools #lienielsen #chatoyance https://ift.tt/2tNQntp

Curly Poplar? Now I’ve seen everything. The only 8/4 stock for my leg vise in this desert of hardwood called Pittsburgh was poplar - so I picked up some milk paint on the hour drive to the lumberyard. Didn’t see the #chatoyance until I got it out in the daylight today. https://ift.tt/2KcX1nZ
