If you don’t believe being asexual has any negative affect on people I was told by a psychiatrist that none of my relationships count because we didn’t have sex, and I can’t say I’m gay since I don’t want to have sex with girls.

and I was taken off my antidepressants because they may be lowering the libido I never had in the first place (plus various other reasons, but still immediately, cold turkey, which should NEVER happen unless they’re switching you to something else)

But aphobia doesn’t exist and asexuals are privileged, right?

I especially hate the exclusionist argument “But sex and romance is what makes us human!!1!!” Because if you did literally just 5 minutes of research you’d be able to figure out why that statement is... very wrong, for a number of reasons:

1) Firstly, the thing that makes us human is... well, that we are human. Ask yourself- are you a homo sapien, aka a human? If the answer is yes, congrats, you’re human, through and through! If the answer is no, then you’re not. Simple as that.

2) If you think sexual relations is what makes us human, then woopdidoo are you,, very wrong! Many mammal species, like dolphins for example, masturbate and have sex purely for pleasure rather than for conceiving a child! Isn’t that neat! This sort of behavior can also be seen in pigs and several species of primates, so it certainly can’t be the thing that separates us from these species, or makes us human!

3) But wait, it gets better! Let’s take a look at the romantic side of things. Penguins are a great example of this! Did you know that penguins mate for life? They do so by finding a special pebble, and presenting it the penguin they truly like (you could even say love). Wow!! You know what... this almost sounds like... marriage?? But wait?? I thought only humans could experience relationships like this?? Nope! It’s quite common to see these romantic-type relationships in nature, so once again, it can’t possibly be the thing that makes us human! How interesting!

Well, wasn’t that a fun lesson! As you can quite clearly see through this very quick and easy to understand guide, sex and romance can’t possibly be the thing that makes us human, as it also occurs quite naturally in the wild among a dozen other unique species. The only thing that makes us human is just that- that we are human! If you can check that box, and that box alone, you’re good to go. Nothing else matters.
