why the season 5 finale was the perfect end and start of an arc: an essay
(and why i'll defend it with my life)
spoiler: it's long
alright then, let's begin.
first of all, you should know, there are three major plotlines in both arcs. that is:
1. the hawkmoth plotline
2. the ladybug/cat noir plotline
3. the love plotline
so, why was it the perfect ending of all three plots in the gabriel arc?
1. well, firstly, let's talk about hawkmoth.
it's the perfect ending of gabriel. truly, it couldn't have been better. he was insane + he just wanted to be with emilie. he gave his life to heal natalie (so adrien can have at least one parental figure left), he was reunited with emilie and he can continue his cycle of abuse on adrien even from his grave. in his mind, he won. he made marinette paint him as a hero, his son loves him, none of his allies can say anything bad about him (because then they're revealed too) and he is with the woman he loves, happy and healthy again. couldn't have been better for him.
2. secondly, let's talk about the heroes relationship
perfect ending for the "ladybug-can't-have-a-life-because-she's-ladybug" plot, "oh-i'm-the-guardian-i-can't-do-shit" plot, "oh-my-i-lost-all-the-miraculous-i-should-just-kill-myself" plot, instead she's practically traumatised for one last time, fixes the world on her own and learns from her own mistakes by giving the miraculous to their holders and realising she doesn't have to do all of this alone + starting to value cat noir more, going back to them being partners and finally realising he's not just there for decoration.
3. thirdly, the love plot
perfect ending for the love triangle/square/octagon (???). no more, "i love adrien but i can't tell him" and "i love ladybug but she doesn't love me back" plot + no more side characters interfering (check out number three on the next arc). it's just them, adrien and marinette, they're in love, they can finally be together - and that's enough. ladybug and cat noir are just partners, who love each other platonically. we love them for that.
now, let's get into the start of the lila (if that's even her name) arc.
1. first, the lila plot.
she's furious. she hates marinette, hates being ridiculed and not being the center of attention. she finds the moth miraculous and swears to ruin marinette and ladybug. pretty simple, right? i mean, she really did have the potential, all the way from season 1.
2. second, the ladybug-cat noir plot
i'm actually glad cat noir isn't in the final battle. i mean, he couldn't be, because then ladybug's gabriel arc wouldn't have finished. adrien did his own brave thing, by trusting ladybug with his own miraculous. now, we can focus on his battle. him being there. ladybug telling him her plans and including him in everything. this is the start of the "it's-called-adventures-of-ladybug-AND-cat noir-not-just-ladybug" plot. he gets his spotlight, because these next seasons are all about him. his delusions, his trauma, the lies he was fed, all of it.
3. third, the love.
finally, it's the love plot. now, no external forces are keeping them apart. no superhero duty, no second love interests, no fathers, no villains... it's just them. now, it's just themselves keeping them apart. or rather, marinette and her lies. and we're not talking about some fibs or white lies, we're talking about adrien's perception of reality lies. like, huge lies. now it's just them, and their issues. also, i'm in no way blaming marinette, because, really, who can tell her what's the right thing to do? girlie has been through so much and she's only 14??? how can anyone blame her for anything she's done?
thank you for reading this genuinely, it's so long.
