After season 1 of Discovery, I described its main problem it had was 1. trying to change so much at once it often made itself feel very unTrek and 2. the things it DID include heavily from Trek canon were things that 1. many fans disliked from the start and on principle (Section 31) or 2 had long since worn out it's welcome in 90's Trek (the mirror universe)
After finishing season 2, the worst of these by far was chaining itself to section 31. Like, it was able to walk back the Klingon designs (which I only hate because my brain doesn't recognize the characters on screen as *klingons*), and towards fleshing out non-main characters (which season 2 took steps to do but didn't quite make it), and away from the Mirror Universe plot, but so much of the season plot was still wrapped up in section 31 shenanigans that its hard to divorce fan distaste for it from the entire show itself.

Things I have said - "they act like sewing is creative when it's actually just ironing and math"
Take up sewing! (They said) It's so fun making just what you want to wear! (They said) What sewing actually entails:
Math, particularly geometry
Cutting a straight enough line in bastard fabrics
Ironing
Advanced ironing
Pressing, which is NOT the same as ironing
Contortionism
Fearlessness in re: possibly sticking pins into yourself
Advanced thread location, mostly attached to the least accessible bits of your anatomy
Proof of concept 1920s-ish combinations are almost done, btw. :)

through with playing by the rules of someone else's game, ch 21
Munchkinland really was beautiful during summer, Fiyero thought to himself. Even if the rural setting required more walking than might be advised in his current condition, the wide paths made going slow with his cane easy enough and the landscape, with the green fields and lush flowers, was worth taking his time through. Especially, he thought, with Elphaba by his side, holding his hand.
Though he could do without the staring, he will admit, though he hopes that knowing he’s getting stared at too makes Elphaba feel at least a little better.

So, a coworker sent me a Spotify playlist that combined the soundtrack to Wicked with the one from the film the Wizard of Oz, in the correct spots they would be in the stories' timeline.
And hol-ee-SHIT.
It's too bad For Good probably can't use lots of the original films songs, cause like?
The cut from "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" to the reprise of "I'm Not that Girl"?
Or some "Follow the Yellow Brick Road" to "No Good Deed"? "No Good Deed" to "If I Only Had A Brain?". "The Merry Old Land of Oz" to "March of the Witch Hunters"?
It's emotional terrorism.

through with playing by the rules of someone else's game, ch 20
Nessa wakes first in the morning, as she knew she would. She rises quietly, careful not to wake the others, as even Glinda had slept fitfully the night before. Taking her bag, she returns to her own dorm before the sun even fully rises.
Stealth aside, there was another major reason she had chosen to leave this early. Multiple times this week she had face to face encounters with Morrible’s tik-tok assistant when in the hallway outside her room. Though she had always found him off-putting she had never bumped into him so frequently, and his brass, unfeeling face unnerved her and made her anxious, though she knew it really had no grounds. She had hoped to evade him completely on this day.
Most of her things were already packed up as there were only two days left of the school term, but she still does a quick sweep. Most of the things she needed daily were kept in her magically expanding shoulder bag. Having that thing was far too addicting, she thought. She dreaded that the day might come where she forgot it somewhere. She dresses carefully. Her nicest stockings and shoes and a plain skirt. The yellow blouse had been a gift from Glinda when she’d asked for aid in going through her wardrobe and determining what was suitable for her new role. She hadn’t thrown anything out yet, hadn’t transitioned in her clothing completely, but today is a good day to start. She tucks the coordinating jacket into the top of her bag. It’s been warm, truly early summer, and she doubts she will need it.
The sun is just beginning to peek over the horizon when she rolls out of the building and quietly through the back courtyard to the forest. Once the trees successfully camouflage her, she mounts her broom, dons her cloak and begins her journey southward.

Watching O Brother Where Art Thou? Immediately after getting home from seeing Sinners is giving me some hilarious crossover images
Namely, the guys (plus or minus Tommy) driving past Stack and Mary at dusk and debating loudly about whether or not to pick them up and none of them commenting on the very obvious blood all over them and "why are they just walking along the road at night?"

Two new vintage sewing patterns added to my pile! Yet another in my attempt to find the perfect button up shirt pattern for using all the fun novelty quilting cotton (and sue me, I LIKE the huge 70's collars) and a pattern for some work-wear, in handy double half sizes (though I will have to cut these out, the one on the left has a complete double set- two of each pattern piece, one for each size)

Any specific clothing item I want a sewing pattern of, I'm going to look and see if a version was produced in a 60's/70's Simplicity pattern, simply because I don't have to cut the fecking thing out.
(and because they have half sizes, the equivalent of going "where are your clothes for the woman who is short and round?")

through with playing by the rules of someone else's game, ch 19
They are planning to leave Shiz stealthily, and the only way for them to do that is to go through the forest. For that, they need Feldspur.
“Are you going to be okay carrying the both of us?” Fiyero asks him, petting his snout.
“Miss Elphaba over here is barely the weight of an extra saddle blanket compared to hauling your carcass around.”
Elphaba’s not sure whether she should take that compliment, but she does, at least from Feldspur.
“I know you’ve never ridden long distance before,” Fiyero tells her, mounting and reaching a hand down to pull her up behind him, “But Feldspur here is very gentle. He keeps my broken self from falling off and breaking even more of me all the time now, he can be extra gentle with you.”
Despite his assurances, Elphaba doesn’t think too much of horseback for long trips, especially since their journey will take most of the day. It does make the journey simpler though. If Fiyero hadn’t been accompanying her, she would have had to take the coach, and then hired either a horse or a carriage for the rest of the way. So she really should get used to traveling by horse, if this is where she is going to be working.

So, one of the reasons I was originally excited for Star Trek Discovery and then didn't get around to watching was because I heard they got Michelle Yeoh and DIDN'T make her the main character (I could not, and did not understand, how they could have come to that decision)
I somehow missed the fact that she not only died, but got eaten by Klingons.

Nessarose is the first of them to turn in her completed paperwork for next year’s placement.
“The last enclosed letter is from Tom Jicama,” she tells Ms Coddle, handing her the stack of paperwork and a sealed envelope, “He’ll sign off on what you send him.”
Miss Coddle doesn’t even have to ask if she’s certain and doesn’t want to submit any other options.
Nessa laughs, imagining the Munchkinland council rejecting her placement but still expecting her to take the role of Governor. Or not, and that being how they choose to tell her. Part of her still can’t believe they didn’t kick her out onto the street upon meeting her. They’ve already called her back even, she has to attend a panel the week before the Equinox.

Wanted also to ask- back when you were posting two updates a week, how in the world did you keep your output up? Do you have a detailed outline? (That's always been something I've considered doing- I'm a write-by-the-seat-of-my-pants type, but this is the most I've ever written on a regular basis, including that year I actually completed Nanowrimo!) and from the amount of specific scenes/events in your fic and excellent foreshadowing, I figure you must be one of those writers who plans things out.
I'll have you know I look forward to your Thursday updates almost as much as my own Friday ones!
Aw thank you!! I’m happy you’re enjoying the fic~
