I wish depression were an emergency. I wish someone could take one look at how sick I am and go “oh my god, we need to get you to a hospital!” and then when we get there I get rushed into surgery and the surgeons say “it’s a good thing you brought her here when you did, this is a seriously advanced case” and then they put me under and spend the next ten hours pulling metres of long, sticky black strands of gunk out of my body, throwing it immediately into an incinerator so that it can’t infect anyone else. And then they could stitch me back up and I could rest a few days, and when I leave the hospital everyone can see how much better I am and they congratulate me saying “well done, you’ve been so brave, I’m so glad you’re ok. I love you.”

if you are really into roguelike games then I have a recommendation for you and it is called Throwing Pottery On A Pottery Wheel HEAR ME OUT!!!

process of wheel-throwing pottery:

-start your project on the wheel

-several initial steps which need to be completed correctly in order to accurately set you up for success.

-if you fuck up in the early stages you CAN continue the run but you'll likely just end up flopping later so sometimes its better to just restart as soon as you know the run is fucked.

-FREQUENT failure, frequent reset.

-as you master the basic mechanics you're able to progress farther and take on more difficult challenges.

-element of randomness (at least as a beginner) where the shape of what you're able to make is dictated by how wide you made the thing originally, how thick and strong you were able to make the walls of the pot, and how thick the bottom is.

it's an extremely satisfying loop for me in the same way that a roguelike gameplay loop is, except when I win the run I get rewarded with a beautiful physical item. and also very sore shoulders from battling the clay into submission.
