Kageyama represents Furudate’s own love for the sport, and Hinata represents the people he hopes to inspire to play the sport by creating Haikyuu.

So its really poetic how it ends with Kageyama finally finding in Hinata the rival he always dreamed of. Because it means that Furudate finally touched someone’s heart enough that they’ll start to play volleyball too

i will forever defend kageyama tobio. he was just a grieving CHILD when he became king of the court. he was just alone. his character is so beautifully written. the way this is just a sports manga but it captures how grief can change a person so much; for the better or for worse. he was just 13 when he became king of the court. you cannot have kageyama without grief, or grief without kageyama. without one or the other kageyama would not have become the well-accomplished national athlete he is today. the way it took years for the manga to reveal kageyama’s backstory shows how closed off kageyama is and how it implies how far he has come in his journey as a player for him to finally reveal about his past and move forward and accept that what happened happened and it was part of the process for him to learn what it means to be part of a team to become one of japan’s top players. the recurring theme in haikyuu is “you have failed today, what will you become tomorrow”. kageyama moving forward from his past allows us to appreciate the extent of his growth because we finally understand the root of his insecurities and struggles making his journey even more impactful. he even reconciled with kindaichi and kunimi which i forever find heartwarming. because in the end no one was in the wrong they were all just children reacting to the situation they were put in. ugh kageyama was blessed for having a team like karasuno to help him become the person he was in the end.

if you can’t tell kageyama tobio is my favourite character (he’s so precious to me) they can never make me hate you kageyama tobio.

when furudate wrote “today you happen to be the defeated. but what will you become tomorrow?” and then “nothing would ever get started if they didn't first think, 'let’s give it a try.'” and then “he who climbs the ladder must begin at the bottom” and then “we’re not limited to just one way of being great” and then “being weak means that there is room to grow” and then “does losing prove that you are weak? isn’t losing difficult for all of you? a challenge where, after ending up on your hands and knees, you must see if you can stand up again? if you stay on your hands and knees, that proves that you are weak.”

from struggling all by himself to becoming one of the greatest setters to have played the sport. he's been a favorite of mine since the moment i started haikyuu, and he will always be one of my favorite characters. i have so much love for him and i'm glad furudate created such an amazing character. tobio has always been so dedicated to volleyball ever since his grandpa showed him how fun it was. he worked hard every day, learned how to become a team member, grew to become an amazing person, and now can smile freely with his teammates. he has come such a long way. I'm so happy we were able to see his journey. happy birthday tobio <3
