#12 Current Social Media Tech.
I. New and Upcoming
https://makeawebsitehub.com/social-media-sites/
A. favorite
Solid
B. Least favorite
I dont know if I have a least favorite, I think what got me is that alot of these apps and there are alot of them all revolve around the same ideas with only minor differences. I think if I had to name out two that would be more concerning it would be apps like Kik or Meetup because of their reputation and the scandles they have had in the past, I know that could be said about a lot of technology but these make me extra skeptical, I think its important to be cautious / tech smart when using them or not use either of them at all.
Q: Why?
I just love the project SOLID! I think it is very encouraging for the future to be able to have control and access over your own data being put out and I think it could be steps towards larger privacy rights further again putting control back into the individuals and people’s hands over the bigger corporations, challenging the power monopoly we currently are starting to see surface in the changing world. I am not a fan of Kik or Meetup for the same reason I am not a huge fan of Craigslist, probably just me but they just dont seem safe or a good idea! And having personally used Kik, it isn’t necessarily bad, but in using it and then reading other stories of tragic kindnappings or murders, I could connect the dots with how that could happen using platforms like that! But again, I think really it goes back to what we have been learning in this class, when your using any technology (especially if you absolutely have to use more shaddy ones) you have to be smart you have to be cautious , be skeptical and have a plan b, like traveling, you have to be prepare for the worst. Thats how you stay alert and on top of things. So in short wouldn’t suggest those but if you do use them or any other technology just remember to be alert and be savvy!
II. Technologies Talked about over the semester
A. Favorite
Hands down the phone apps! I also liked Mashups , Twitter, the videos & pictures from the first half and I liked learning and experiencing Reddit but wouldn’t probably use it regularly.
B. Least Favorite
Wikipedia
Q: Why ?
I loved the phone apps week because I really engaged with the different technologies out there and there are soooo many apps to choose from and learn about that are really cool and fun ! So i loved that and I still use some of the apps I downloaded for that week! I didnt love mashups necessarily, but I can see them as being really useful and I was very interested in the fragrance mashup! I think the key to Mashups are finding ones that suite your interests, they prove the most useful. I never really liked Twitter when it first became popular and I think its because I didnt really understand how to use it but in learning in this class how it actually works, I really am starting to warm up to it and appreciate it as well as see how other companies and corporations see this social media platform as a very powerful and engaging tool! The video and picture editing weeks I loooved because I am really into both, I love editing and uploading photos and Im starting to get into videos. I hands down will and have used the information we learned in those classes the most ! Reddit was a platform I always heard about at work from my bosses and coworkers. I was always curious about it but never really ventured on it, so I was very excited and glad to be able to get the opportunity to see what it was all about in this class. Now I kinda get the hang of it, it is pretty cool, some of the memes and conversations are pretty hilarious but overall, I dont think I found it to be overall appealing for everyday use.
I was not really fond of Wikipedia! Maybe I am just lazy, but it is a different experience using Wikipedia as a quick fact check (which then you back up with other sources) verses actually tempering or creating the content yourself! I can confidently say creating content for Wikipedia like hairstyling is definately not my calling in life haha but it was still pretty cool to see how the process works even if I did at times find it cumbersome. Overall this semester was very useful and enjoyable! I know I will use the knowledge and tools listed here and more in my future everyday life!

#11 Mashups
* This is a fascinating article on how various mashups not just APIs but other mashups of software or other tech devices continue to revolutionarly shape and change both security and the economy : https://www.borndigital.com/2018/05/17/technology-mashups
In terms of API Mashups that could be useful I nominate both jobfinder and jobjolly !
Link : https://www.programmableweb.com/mashup/jobfinder ,https://www.programmableweb.com/mashup/jobjolly
Q: Why do you think this is a useful tool ?
A: I think both Job Finder and Jobjolly are both useful mashup tools given that we are all students looking to increase our skills and knowledge in order to take advantage of better opportunities in our existing field or in a new field. Some are even going to be looking for their first job, so having all of your options filtered in one place on top of having other networking and social media opportunites, makes the application process run a little bit smoother !

#9 Classmate’s Reddit Stories
1. Missy
#2 Nicole
#3 Zoe
#4 M Doyle
#5 Casey
* Sidenote : as seen in the last comment pic for Casey, because I havent really posted too much content on Reddit aside from the other class when we used it, I got sort of flagged for over use of the platform all at once (like we talked about possibly happening in class when we were discussing how Reddit works ) but I wrote in the comment bubble what I would have submitted if able without getting kicked off or shut down.

#6 Phone Apps

Top 3 (pretty basic haha)
1. Bible
2. Dayforce
3. (its a tie) Voice Memo & Notes
Q1: How often you use these apps?
A1: Bible I use everyday , Dayforce I used to (before quarentine) check at least twice a week and then the last two from time to time its more spontaneous.
Q2: Why you use these apps?
A3: I use Bible because I am Catholic and wanted to initially read more scripture, now I genuinely like it, especially reading the bible passages of the day which they post daily. I use Dayforce for my job, it allows you to request time off, check your schedule , switch with other employees and contact them if needed for any reason. I would check it weekly for my work schedule. Voice memos I use for one of two things, either to talk or vent to my friend when either of us get sick of typing via text and cant talk on the phone we memo eachother and listen/ respond to one another when able. The second way I use Voice Memo is to sing, singing is one of my interests and I sometimes will record myself singing so I can detect where I hit bad notes vs good notes so as to improve it in the future. I use Notes also spontaneously, either for grocery lists or im pretty careful about doing this but if I really need to I will store passwords in Notes. I also write in notes, I like to write poetry/song lyrics from time to time and when I get a good idea and dont have a paper or pen on me I just record it in my phone under notes, which is why it is more spontaneous.
Q3: How have these apps changed your life?
A3: They have allowed me to be more organized, connected to my working community and enabled me to channel some of my creative interests when able.
Q4: What did you do before you installed and started using them?
I always really had Notes since I have had an Iphone. Before that I would write in note books or online journels. For Dayforce, I didnt need it before I started my job so it was irelevant. Voice memos, I would just text my famous novel texts (im long winded unfortunately) or call ( i remember as a kid when home phones or even old fashion wall phones were a thing, wireless and then later flip phones were a big deal!) Singing wise, I would probably just break a few windows with my voice and then forget about it haha nah Idk I would just sing from time to time when no one was around and then yeah forget about it! As for the Bible if I couldnt get this app I probably would have just got my own hard copy to read. I like to have both though because one is easy and on the go and has cool features and the hard copy I can read for longer spans of time.
Q5: Is anything that could happen that would make you stop using these apps ?
A5: The power and wifi fails (hopefully not!!!), I get an old school phone and drop apple or more on specific details, for Dayforce , if I stop working at my job and no longer need the app, and the others Ill always keep, unless some other event prevents it or I get a new phone.

#5 Twitter Tools
Q1: What is one of your favorite tools to use on Twitter?
A1: Since I already talked about Trends24, I think the next best thing to this would be the tool Hash.
Q2. Why it is your favorite?
A2: One of the main advantages of using Twitter is the “trending” ability or feature that it offers. Being able to see a list of the top trending topics or hashtags, allows you to communicate with your virtual groups more effectively and directly. You are able to really engage with your audience by talking about things that are relevant to them and what is going on in real time.
Q3: How do you use it ?
A3: According to Buffer Marketing Library, the way the feature Hash works is Hash brings you the top stories (breaking it down in 10s) and trending key topics that people are talking about in real time. Really it functions almost like a newsreport based on people’s own contribution.
https://buffer.com/library/free-twitter-tools#.Xpe1931xcLw.twitter
https://thehash.today
Q4: Would recommend it to friends.
A4: Absolutely! I think this is a great and basic tool everyone should have to help them navigate and communicate more effectively on Twitter. By using Hash, you really start to understand Twiter’s actual function as a social media platform(which there are alot of ways to look at Twitter and learn about it but this really gets to its basic structure).

Goodbye & Thanks Guys ! Good Luck on Finals !

Now that this semester is drawing to a close (already if you can believe it!) I want to take a moment before the final to write some wrapping up sentiments. This course has not only been extremely informative, as I have learned a lot and experienced various platforms I had only merely heard about beforehand, but it has also been extremely relevant given the current situation the entire world is facing together! As with anything, there are always pros and cons. In the case of the last few months, technology has definitely shown its pros! I am grateful that we were able to continue classes and get a little bit of life back, as well as communicate with friends and family during this crisis, thanks to technology! I know that the skills learned in this class over the past weeks, will grow in relevance as I continue to use these different platforms in the workplace and see over and over again in other places in everyday life. I am grateful and thankful to Prof for your passion for technology, informative lessons, kindness and humor as well as your positive attitude in the midst of such a unique circumstance! I am also grateful and thankful to each and everyone of you for your lessons, opinions, attention, kindness, humor, and reliability (it has been crazy and real guys haha) ! It truly has been a pleasure to work for and with all of you (shout out to my group Stranger Things haha) ! I wish all of you and your families a blessed and safe summer and the best of luck with finals and in your futures!

Imagine New Technology
Q1: imagine and envision a technology that you would like to see become “the next big thing”. The only limits are it must be realistic (meaning it must be feasible that it can be created)
A1: Wow, I don’t know thats a good but big question! I don’t know I think I am too old fashion to have passionate inventive ideas about technology but I will give out some ideas that I could see coming about or that could be cool!?!
So as I mentioned in one of the posts, I would love to see fashion apps really step up to the plate ! Having an app where stylists can help to organize your closet, you can get tips from stylists, makeup artists and skincare enthusiasts, price comparisons, video( live or vloggeed) tutorials and chat with them would be cool kinda a more interactive social magazine that takes KIWI a step further and can be individual or community based. Another app for fashion design offering collaboration with merchandisers and designers alike combining properties of Photoshop, Illustrator, Instagram Pinterest, and Reddit. Or separately, I do have this on Pinterest and I know some apps are being developed for this but having an app designed to really guide and organize your closet inventory would be amazingly helpful! Another technology that I had done a lot of research a few years back on and I know will be big at some point in the near but distant future is digital fitting rooms, which will either be via head set virtual reality, holographically or in more 2D demos on your computer and allow you to try on clothes from your favorites stores. This will revolutionize how clothing is sold and change retail as a business encouraging less brick and mortar and more virtual shopping. Another that I could see being big or possible are followings with NASA and a new fascination with Space. Flying or automatic cars are another technology that I could see coming about. Social media wise other than socializing over music and learning how to play with experts or virtual book clubs over apps like House party or fashion related apps, I can’t really image any others being useful!?! Maybe specific social media platforms for check ups and medical care or therapy I could see that happening. A lot of the editors or creative platforms I find interesting , I would love to see more with Architecture and interior design, which I think are going to come about. Also as they already are ushering in different collaborative apps for filmmaking and script writing that would be cool to see on a social media level like Art Deviant , to see different film makers (pro and amateur) collaborate together and comment on each other’s work and maybe even add Reddit's property of up-voting and down voting on a general feed for which videos are good vs not as good. Traveling lifestyle and socializing meet up or group forming apps and tip sharing platforms could also continue to merge into one really good platform. Also security or policing socializing I could see happening but not sure how!?! I think iPads will continue to develop as will projection technology that will change how we do basic things in general. Basically what I am saying is, I am convinced one day we will be living a more intense version of the Jetsons, its just a matter of when and how that all pans out haha !
