It's really fun how people do this fun thing where they SAY they define "Zionism" as a colonial imperialist belief that Jews should be the only people living in the Levant and everyone else should be expelled/murdered. But then label literally anyone who acknowledges antisemitism in any way or doesn't support a terrorist organization who's primary stated goal is the murder of all the Jewish people in the Levant. Zionists. Hmmm.

Next Shabbat, as part of the weekend of commemoration/memorial for October 7th, we are reading out the names of every person killed that day in Israel during the shul service. I have been asked to be one of the readers. We each get 100 names (roughly) and it's going to overwhelming, I already know that. We are being sent the names in advance so we can prepare, both from a pronunciation perspective but also mentally. It will likely take over an hour to read all of the names.
I don't like thinking about how fundamentally different I am as a person and my worldview is since this time last year. This time a year ago, I was chatting to one of my closest friends before she travelled to Jerusalem for her brother's wedding and promptly found herself, her entire family including her 7 month pregnant sister in the middle of a warzone.
While people I know were cheering on the massacre, I was barely sleeping as I tried to help organise getting my friend and her family out to safety while her and her family sat in bomb shelters discussing how they would have to leave behind the pregnant sister if they had to run as someone had to survive to look after her first child. We are lucky that they were in a position to get out. In Jerusalem, they were relatively protected from what happened in the south and the missiles from Hezbollah in the north. The UK government were 0 help, they did absolutely nothing to help get their citizens home.
I will not be surprised if all of us reading next week are standing in front of our congregation in tears while we read. The human brain is not designed to comprehend death on the levels we have seen in the past year and reading names will make it all the more real. I honestly think it will likely be one of the hardest things I will have done in a long time. A name makes a number into a person.
I know that to do the same with all of the innocent Palestinians who have died would take far longer and that they too are also victims of Hamas' actions on October 7th 2023 but this will be a day of mourning for our Jewish brethren and the non-Jews killed by Hamas for the crime of existing in Israel because they were all victims of the same bone deep hatred that runs through the veins of Hamas.
We will not forget them.

The innocent civilians Israel killed yesterday
Tumblr media
Out of 36 people who were killed by the pager/walkie-talkie attacks - 34 were Hezbollah fighters.
One was a kid in Hezbollah's scouts (think Hitler Jugend)
And one was a girl. The lone "innocent victim".
(She was an innocent victim because someone in her life let her hold a pager that is only given to military commanders.)
That means Israel had a success rate of 99.97%
And still that's not enough.
And that's assuming you believe Hezbollah. According to some claims, Hezbollah lost many more commanders, which means that Israel's success rate is even higher.
But even if it would be 99.999999999999999999999%
Israel will be condemended.
If you're sharp-eyed - you will notice a few kids in the picture. There's a 16yo and 19yo who are both SOLDIERS.
When you quote Hamas figures about how Israel is killing children, remember that a significant number of those children were holding guns while they were killed
Does the UN or US democrats care about Hezbollah giving weapons to young kids and sending them to the battlefield? Of course not.
Banning weapons is only a thing in the US. If those same weapons can kill Jews? Why would anybody be against it?
Because there are important things: encouraging the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Jews.
And there are non-important things: child soldiers, using hospitals as military HQ, civil wars that kill millions, teaching your children to kill Jews, famine and floods etc. etc. etc.

Misinformation: photos and videos from Syria =/= footage from Gaza
The Israel-Hamas war has generated more misinformation than I've ever seen in my life, and one of the biggest recurring examples is people on social media sharing footage and images of atrocities from Syria and falsely presenting them as media from Gaza. There are too many instances of this to put in a single post, but I'm going to share some here, which Syrian-American journalist Kareem Rifai has talked about on his twitter:

(link to tweet...I kept the image blocked out here because it's a picture of dead children)

Influencers like Bella Hadid shared this footage of children. Look at the amount of likes. I saw this footage immediately shared on tumblr on 10/7, too. It's not from Gaza, but from Syria.

It's not hard to fact-check this stuff. The Syria/Gaza mix-up has happened too many times over the past year for the people creating these posts to simply be misinformed; yes, the people blindly sharing these posts are falling for misinformation, but why does this misinformation exist in the first place? Why does this keep happening?
Ask yourself the following questions:
Why are people lying about the origin of these pictures and videos, and appropriating another group's oppression for a different political cause, when there are real pictures and videos from Gaza to use?
Why did these people never share Syrians' suffering before, until they thought they were somebody else?
Why do accounts with millions of followers keep sharing misinformation about this war without ever acknowledging their wrongdoing?
Why have so many of the Online voices sharing this misinformation also been denying Assad's war crimes against Syrians since 2011?
This isn’t simply a matter of people with good intentions making a mistake; something rotten is going on here

if your advocacy for palestine actively harms israelis and requires using antisemitism to convey your message you are not helping make the world a better place. you are making it worse.

so, uh… my stance on Standing Together just went from “some of the things the leadership says on their personal accounts is a bit one-sided but i agree with the stated goals of standing together, so it’s fine I guess” to… not that.
Tumblr media
The Axis of Resistance is Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and Assad’s regime.
Alon-Lee Green is co-director of Standing Together.

btw you don't have to love netanyahu and agree with him 100% of the time to think blood libel leveled against him, portrayals of him as satan and a blood drinking devil, and burning effigies of him is wrong.
it's antisemitism 101.
what do you think a mob of people like this would do if they got to him without security? do you really think another jew deserves that? idek what to say to you if you do.
