Tumblr's Top 50 Musicals - Results

I've posted the Top 50 Musicals over the last couple of days, and now it's time to look at all shows that have been submitted - 312 in total! Thank you for participating and submitting your lists, this was great fun 🎭

The scores (given in round brackets) were calculated as follows: #1 received 10 points, #2 received 9 points,..., and #10 received 1 point, resulting in 55 points per entry/list. Incomplete and anonymous entries were discounted. If applicable, the rank achieved in 2022 is given in square brackets.

I ranked the musicals up to #112 (16 points), all shows that scored 15 points or fewer are merely listed in alphabetical order. The logos you can see here represent musicals that weren't mentioned even once.

SURVEY - 2022 STATS

I 100% adore the Lord of the Rings movies, but the fact is that the Arwen-Is-Dying-Because-Ring-Magic plotline makes zero sense by the lore (if I’m wrong please correct me I’d love to learn). Don’t get me wrong, it works great for the movie, brilliant, in fact, but it doesn’t really make much sense in book logic. Why would Arwen’s fate be tied to the Ring? If she’s mortal now she can’t Fade, and if she’s still Elvish there’s no reason why it should affect her more than anyone else.

BUT, I was watching the extended scene where Aragorn looks into the Palantir and Sauron speaks to him in Black Speech and shows him pictures of a dead Arwen and smashes the Evenstar (Which is a whole other The-Books-Call-Bullshit shebang), and I came up with my own in-universe explanation.

Sauron: *Chilling in Mordor*

An Orc of some kind: My Lord Mairon (Because THAT is what they would call him), the spies have come back from Rivendell.

Sauron: Show me.

Magic Evil Spy: *Shows Sauron the image of a mortal man of the race of Numenor making out with an Elf lady who looks suspiciously familiar…*

Sauron: OH HELL NO!

Evil Spy: Indeed, Master. The Heir of Isildur lives.

Sauron: Get rid of her, now.

Evil Spy: Right away, Mast- her?

Sauron: Yes! Yes yes yes, I don’t care what it takes, get her out of here.

Evil Spy: My Lord, but surely, Isildur’s heir-?

Sauron: Do not harm that man, you hear me? Do not lay a finger on him until she is taken care of.

Sure, getting stabbed by 60 senators is overkill and also generally wild. But also i remember that 17th century swiss priest/warlord i once read a book about who got shot by a guy in a bear costume at a carneval party and then bludgeoned to death by a group of costumed party-goers.

The party was also held in a pastry shop. So yk getting stabbed to pulp on the floor of the senate at least looks kinda presentable in the history books. suitably roman xD

If this sounds familiar and appealing to you, fellow Silmarillion enjoyer, that is because this is the title and plot of the newest musical by Falešné Společenstvo, the Czech Tolkien musicals group.

At this January's Tolkien Con in Prague, they premiered Zrada! Smrt! Láska! It is a kind of jukebox musical made from songs by falešné společenstvo from the last two decades and new theatrical bits. It features the Valar looking back over the First Age, as they make their decision before the War of Wrath.

I was listening to this song from Pád Doriathu whilst making this. would highly recommend it, and also Maedhros' song afterwards.

I tried to make it an open ending. Generally I go with the idea that Eluréd and Elurín die in the snow, but I decided here that I wanted to give them a chance at survival.

(also can you tell I've never truly interacted with snow before lmao)
