A Semi-Structured Interview!
As we are processing, I am choosing my practice question to be ‘what are the approaches of the common public towards their deppressed friends/ family members?’. To investigate this topic, I will interview one friend. I will invite her to a quite cafe where there will be no or little noise and distraction. Firstly, I will introduce my topic and my approach to her. Secondly, to have her full trust on the conversation remaining confidential, I will present her with a prepared document that explicitly explains the confidentiality and asks for consent. In this document, I, the interviewer, declare that any data gathered from this conversation will only be used for the purpose of the described research and will remain confidential. In the second segment of the document, I will ask the interviwee to give consent on the use of data and permission for recording. We will both sign the document and keep a copy each.
Since the research is on a third person about whom the intervieww will be speaking, this would be a main ethical consideration. Therefore, no ethnographic data will be collected about this third person.
