You're so real for this
I also want to add: even if she did write Leon's name for revenge, even if the manga wasn't canon, that doesn't make sayaka a bad person. The killing game is a scenario where you're put in an unfamiliar location with no friends or allies (yes, sayaka knew makoto beforehand, and so did Peko & fuyuhiko, but only one of them could leave), manipulated to distrust everything that moves, and told it's kill or be killed or remain in eternal imprisonment.
Every murderer is just as much a victim as the people they murder. Makoto had it right: the person you should blame is Monokuma, NOT the people pushed into corners.
FURTHERMORE: iirc, Sayaka didn't know about the punishments yet (tell me if I'm wrong, my memory isn't the best). Perhaps, in her mind, she thought Makoto might get hurt, but she had no way of knowing he'd be outright killed. So, when she formed her plan, she didn't think she'd be sentencing everyone else to death, too.
Friendly reminder that they're all just teenagers, man. They didn't ask to be put in a killing game (er, let's ignore v3).
Unpopular opinion but even in the Kibou no Gakuen to Zetsubou no Koukousei, Sayaka still isn't a psycho bitch there. And when people pointed out, that she smiled and laughed when she thought of the plan. It wasn't a smile or laugh of actual joy, it was a laugh and smile of desperation. A scared teenager (well technically not teenager, but she doesn't know that) clinging to their last hope, of going back to her dream. The dream that she cherished and work hard on for her whole life. Hence why she got frustated when Leon act so laid back towards his dream, a dream similar to hers, that she was extremely passionate and determined about. Does it make her actions better or justifiable? No, but it shows that she wasn't a heartless cold killer there.
Sayaka did NOT write Leon's name out of revenge or anything. In fact it literally CONFIRMS that she wrote Leon's name to save Makoto from her own plans. From the plan that backfired against her, and in her last moments she regretted taking advantage of Makoto's kindness and even said she became 'too greedy'.
And the fact that her last words was an apology to Makoto, should be obvious that she wasn't some vengeful psycho bitch. While she is a hypocrite when she was scared that Leon would kill her after she tried to kill him. She did NOT wrote his name for revenge. And I'll be honest before I read the manga, and I saw people hating on Sayaka in comments and said that Leon never meant to killed Sayaka, I just replied it with 'The manga isn't canon'.
But now that I read it, I actually like Sayaka a lot better now, along with Leon and Celeste. And nowhere in the manga does it show that Sayaka wrote Leon's name for revenge, again, in fact it confirms that Kyoko's assumption was right and she was trying to save Makoto from the very plan that she started because she regretted trying to use Makoto's kindness against him. Her last moments was filled with regret, sorrow and guilt.

Be the change you want to see. Write naejunko where the entire premise is, "Being Makoto is suffering and Junko ensures it," and similar ideas. Embrace the trauma <3
naejunko is great in theory but almost every fan ive met just wants to talk about makoto getting junko pregnant so i cant approve of it. like can she tear him apart while he apologizes for making her go through the trouble or something

All by Junko. However, you've put the idea of Makoto hopping in with "its good to see you again, wifey!" In my head, and I think it's hilarious. Can you imagine class 77s reaction lol.
Danganronpa goodbye despair au where everything is the same except Makoto and junko are Visibly divorce coded whenever she so much as talks about him.
"I miss my other half, nagito. I miss him a lot."
"I can't believe he took the kids! Who the hell does he think he is?"
"Why is he always the favorite?! Did I not love you all enough??"
"It's so good to see you again, wifey!"
Not sure how how Makoto would play into it, but he would, and entirely by accident too.

I live for the realization Mono must've had, looking at himself and seeing The Thin Man. The realization that he was doomed from the start, that it would always end up this way. Did he get angry, did he try to deny what he saw? Or was he tired, a forlorn acceptance weighing him down after years have passed. What was he thinking, as he gazed upon his younger self? Did he even recognize them at first?

A lot of these are actually pretty normal but even they're funny. Some of these I can't help but imagine him on the verge of a mental breakdown.
The many weird thoughts Makoto has in the chapter 6 investigation.

Kinda remembered my AUs exist and I whilst i don't want to write rn, I still do have ideas and I wanna write them down. So!
SHSL Despair Makoto isn't a remixed Junko or even Komaeda. It's specifically Makoto and Junko "teaming up" to take down Hope's Peak and Makoto bullying the school so hard he gets labeled a terrorist. He does not want despair and is actively opposed to Junko's actions. He knows she wants the school gone just as much as he does, and that there's something wrong with her, but he doesn't know the true extent of it. He can't simply come clean either, since Junko ensured that his actions were public and absolutely devastating. She, Izuru, and Mukuro are literally his only allies; not even his own class believe in him since he kinda... fucked up with the memory ensure (how? Luck, lol). Yay!
He accidently has his own friends hostage, the entire world wants him DEAD or worse, but hey! The three people who got him into this mess are crushing on him. Fun. Makotos luck here has evolved, too, btw, (less "survival" and more "protective"). It's constantly fucking with Junko in new ways whenever she plans on messing with him. She's having the time of her life, suffering from Makotos unpredictable Luck and generally trying to recruit him into despair. Also the Tragedy.
Coin flip... I genuinely forgor what I had planned. I know I wanted to have random moments of their school life and everyone's lives be absolutely miserable.
Mondo has seen so much death and lowkey imprinted on Makoto due to him being hard to kill. Toko, Taka, and Sayaka (SHSL Cosplayer) barely think of themselves as people. Chihiro is basically overdosing on escapism. Sakura (affluent progeny) is less buff (the horror) but has survived thousands of assassination attempts (Makoto was not involved. She distrusts him on principle anyway). Mukuro genuinely is the only normal person there, Makoto is somehow second place, and he's a child assassin. Not even Hajime is normal here. He's an ultimate and thus clinically insane (+ this AU makes being an SHSL Talent suffering). Mahiru is also dead as hell, being Kamukura'd would do that. Nagito is somehow still the SHSL Lucky student. Somethings never change.
I also wanted a short excerpt where Makoto literally lived in the walls during the killing game, not trusting anyone and immediately going into hiding. I have no idea who would mastermind the killing game since Junko also has a different (currently unassigned) Talent.
SHSL Despair Makoto is probably getting a rewrite, I don't like it's pilot. At this point, it's an entirely different au anyways. Makoto will still find out about the human experimentation, and get reality checked, but there's just so many new details to consider that on paper the entire vibe would be different. It's also just not good writing lol.
SHSL Disaster is dead in a ditch. It was intended to be crack with a bit of seriousness and fatal situations, but I'm not funny. Some scenes I never got to write for disaster:
"Ryoko (Junko) WHERE THE HELL ARE WE??!?!?"
"LOL, idk."
"Is that Paris???"
"Junko, please help! Celeste is trying to force me into being her butler slave thing again!"
"Ikusaba... hello."
"...Naegi. How's Junko?"
"Maybe if you didn't abandon her, you'd know."
And that's all for now. Maybe I'll write something later.

"Ibuki's chew toy" I'm sobbing
"Look, look! He squeaks if you squeeze him!"
"I-ibuki!"
Chiaki Makoto friendship... he definitely said something similar to Chiaki what he told Sayaka: "You don't have to talk if you don't want to, we can just relax," in canon. Very chill dynamic, I think.
Peko&fuyu Makoto friendship is something I've never heard of... is this friendship how Hajime gets a crush on her in this au? Lol
I'm glad kazu is closer to Hajime, altho if this was a fic I can already feel myself closing the tab out of embarrassment when he mimics Makoto.
I kinda want kazu or someone to point out how similar Makoto and Nagito are, just for others to go, "They're nothing alike!" Until Makoto gives a Hope speech, and they have to accept that they could be twins or something. "okay... nevermind. He hits different, tho."
Makoto in Dr2 au: How does Makoto shift the dynamics between students? Are there any unexpected friendships with Makoto acting as the catalyst? Are certain people nicer, or more guarded? Who's presence does Makoto specifically seek out at the beginning? The end game trio is definitely Hajime Chiaki Makoto (with Nagito lurking about), but I imagine that he would've hung out with Fuyuhiko/Hiyoko/Peko at least a couple times (or tried to). Maybe Makoto even managed to befriend them on some level before their chatacter development/death/both. He's friends with Byakuya and Kyoko, he obviously doesn't mind prickly or cold personalities.
Also: do Hajime and Makoto both have gambling and/or gifting habits, or is it just one? In case of the latter, which?
(Despair disease Makoto is so funny here, I genuinely can't get enough of it.)
I love it!! Great questions. And thank you for enjoying Despair Disease Makoto, lol.
(Masterlist for my Makoto in Other Killing Games AU's)
Makoto's social presence: Okay, so in one of my posts, I said that Makoto initially becomes friends with Mahiru, and I definitely think there's a chance for him to (maybe accidentally) fall into an older brother role with Hiyoko (see this post) and a younger brother role with Akane (since she's strong and has younger siblings to compare him to). He makes progress getting to know Peko before he makes progress getting to know Fuyuhiko (and also his progress with Peko helps him get close to Fuyuhiko). He gets along very well with Chiaki, though it's not really emphasized until later. What I'm basically saying is, I think he's going to be either a protectorate or pet to most of the girls in Class 77.
He still does his best to talk to everyone as much as he does in THH, but the way the group sees him, at least initially, is as Mahiru's little helper and Sonia's polite little gentleman and Ibuki's chew toy, etc. (It's not romantic on the girls' part pretty much at all; Makoto is attracted to some of them, but in the same way he's kind of attracted to Sayaka, Chihiro, Hina, etc. in THH.)
Kazuichi is jealous, and Fuyuhiko is lowkey grateful that someone else is being infantilized.
ALSO, because I believe Makoto should be allotted one incredibly important overheard conversation per killing game, I want to say he hears Fuyuhiko and Peko kind of alluding to the nature of their relationship in private, and he keeps this to himself.
The way this looks in practice: A lot of the time when Mahiru is chastising the boys for not doing something or another, she'll make a point to add, "Except Makoto. He's helping me carry groceries, so he's excused," or something of the sort. At a point, Fuyuhiko starts doing this, too. Like, "You guys make me sick! Except the kid, I guess."
Also, I imagine Makoto always immediately looks away when Mikan does her fanservice tumbles, and Mahiru approves of that, too. All the girls do. (I'm not saying that Hajime is staring, like, out of perviness; I'm more saying that Hajime doesn't have an immediate "Yikes! Her thighs!" reaction that Makoto, in my mind, would. Like, for example, when Akane says "Hajime, you can touch my boobs if you want," his reaction is "H-ll no." I think, given the same offer, Makoto would kind of stammer a little bit before turning it down. Kinda startled, ya know.)
The girls get protective when Teruteru flirts with Makoto. Ibuki will straight up cover Makoto's ears, like, "No! Protect the innocent ears!" Makoto is kind of bewildered by the treatment, because he's not that much younger than any of them, but he just kind of goes with it.
Mikan actually does fewer fanservice tumbles because now Makoto is the clumsy guy and she gets to fuss over him and tend to his scrapes. This actually weirdly facilitates some semi-positive interactions between her and Hiyoko, because if Hiyoko ever sees Makoto injured, she'll call for Mikan (albeit while peppering insults in there), and Mikan really loves being needed.
And on the other side of it, when it comes time to suspect him for things, people (especially Kazuichi) will often bring up, "Why do you think he acts so innocent?" "Why do you think he went out of his way to get the girls on his side?" And he's just like, "I don't! I didn't! It just happened! I don't know why they treat me this way, either!" Meanwhile he's holding everyone's beach bags and Akane just wordlessly tossed him a bottle of sunscreen.
Kazuichi has tried to imitate Makoto's behavior, but his opportunistic spin on it just puts people off.
The way this affects the canon social dynamics: I've read a really fun fic where having Makoto in SDR2 caused Kazuichi and Gundham to become friends (The fic is called "A Change in Variables: Makoto Naegi", by Keroshroom; it's great.), but here Kazuichi still very much opts for Hajime as his go-to guy friend. In the same way that he canonically considered Nekomaru unqualified for the Chapter 2 beach house outing because he "can't keep a secret", he would probably say Makoto is "in too deep" or "too close to the opposition".
Basically, Kazuichi is not close to Makoto, but he might be closer to Hajime than in canon as a result of Makoto, since Makoto is someone else to distrust. Inexplicably from a different class, inexplicably appealing to girls, and eerily similar to Nagito.
Mahiru, Hiyoko, Mikan, and Ibuki gravitate together as a friend group, first of all because canon says they were a friend group at school, and second of all because Makoto takes the edge off of the things that would otherwise have slowed that development down (like the animosity between Hiyoko and Mikan, as mentioned above). It starts as them "borrowing" Makoto from each other, and then at some point they're actual friends and they're telling Makoto to give them privacy to hang out together as girls. (Which is around when he transitions from between being primarily Mahiru's friend to being primarily Hajime's friend.)
Peko and Fuyuhiko might be able to hang out together openly. Of course, it depends on how all the death stuff goes, but there's at least a good chance. If Makoto knows about them and is chill about it, it might allow them to chill a little bit, depending on how Other Things play out.
I think Sonia and Gundham progress at the same rate as canon, as do Akane and Nekomaru.
He might deliberately create a bond between Sonia and Fuyuhiko (because they're both leaders; they should talk about that!) and Mikan and Akane (because if Mikan likes taking care of people who are often injured, she should hang out with Akane more!), and maybe Ibuki and Gundham (many reasons; this post is getting so long). I can't help thinking that, in Chihiro-and-Mondo fashion, at least one of the connections Makoto creates ends in tragedy.
The gift-giving thing: Oh boy, you have no idea how much I've wished there were some difference in game mechanics between the protagonists here, lol.
What I'm going with is, they both do it, but Hajime is doing it in an "I keep finding these stupid Monocoins and there's nothing else to do with them" kind of way, whereas Makoto is doing it in a "Great, another Monocoin for the MonoMono Machine! Those gifts are a great icebreaker," way.

Never forget that Makoto will just randomly wax poetics whilst in the middle of a horrible situation.
It's not intrusive, but it's there and that's hilarious.
His reaction to Sayaka's final message is "its as if she wrote it with life itself" for crying out loud lmao. Kyoko calls him out on it too!!!

Can you imagine
A world where everything is the same, except you don't exist? A world that moves on perfectly without you.
What about a world where your choices don't matter? Whether you go to bed that day or you get up and attend school, the outcome is the same.
What if it's the best thing that's ever happened to you? A prisoner in your own body and yet. You have friends, now. You have purpose, now. You get to be a hero, with all the respect and admiration that comes with it, even if your life is in danger sometimes. (It's better than lying in bed and counting the days until your brother gets home.)
No one cared about you anyway. (Almost no one noticed that you were gone.)

Something that keeps me up at night about THH is the implication they were all friends and that the killing game was also to bring herself despair via homiecide. They were all Junkos friends. She loved every single one of them. From Kyoko to Hiro to Toko to TOGAMI TO HIFUMI TO MAKOTO TO CELESTE TO LEON SHE LOVED ALL OF THEM. How did this happen? How did she befriend them? What were the dynamics? I need to know so badly. How the hell did Kyoko get friends. Same for toko, honestly.

Something a friend pointed out is that he also balls up his fist a lot, even in his full body smiling sprite! And I *think* (not 100% sure) that he's the only character in thh with such a slight deviation in his lower half, making him seem really stiff. He lowkey gives off a lot of angry vibes
While context is important, since all these sprites are being used in a death game with his family potentially dead and on a meta level I think most of his were likely intended for trials (adding more pressure on him in universe tho) where as others can be used whenever. But that's So Boring and I like resting bitch face makoto, LET HIM LOOK MEAN.
so for those of y'all who didn't know, Makoto has 1 smiling sprite in thh (not counting his awkward smile thing he does when he's nervous. I'm only talking genuine smiles) and that sprite is used once that the very beginning of the game and you don't see him smile again until the very end. He's also the only protag to not have a crying sprite. this birthed my hc that Makoto has a *very* bitchy/angry resting face and he still usually looks pretty pissed off/done with everything when he's talking with people.
like his conversations with Kyoko and Byakuya? catching any of them smiling once during their entire exchange is rare. (in thh kyoko has the most smiling sprites of this trio. Byakuya has 1.)
