BotW Link x Reader: Everything Will Be Fine.

From @yandere-daydreams delusional prompt list. #6 “Pretend you never saw that. I can’t stand it when you look so scared.”

It was for your own good.

“Link? What are you—? What’s going on?” He froze. You came home earlier than Link was expecting. He had just landed the finishing move when your voice reached his ears.

He released the sword’s handle and turned his back on the mess he created. “Everything’s fine.” He held up his hands like he was coaxing an animal, but your teary eyes were wide and alert, and your foot was slowly, carefully, sliding backwards.

Link opted for a more casual approach. “Your friend, well, they weren’t really your friend, you know? They were just using you! Couldn’t you see that? That’s why—!” The second he stepped forward, you spun around and scrambled for the door. But you couldn’t outrun the ancient, mystical power that was stasis.

“I’m sorry,” said Link, as he quickly closed the door and locked it. Then, facing you, Link wrapped his arms around your frozen form just before the effect wore off. “I didn’t want to do this... I didn’t want you to see this.”

He expected resistance, but it still hurt when you struggled in his arms and shouted such hurtful things at him.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” He squeezed harder. “Please don’t be upset. I love you so much. Just— Just pretend you never saw anything.”

It took a while before you calmed down, reduced to shivers and choked sobs. The sight broke Link’s heart when he pulled back to look at you. He longed for that smiling, carefree expression that he loved so much. But, when you looked at him in fear, like he was some kind of monster, it made him feel sick.

Caressing your damp cheek with one hand, he uttered, “I can’t stand it when you look so scared.”

He wanted to go back to how things were, back to when you looked at him with such a pretty smile and praised his heroic work. Surely there was an ounce of warmth left between the two of you? A tiny flame that just needed a little help.

“Everything will be fine,” he said, both to you and himself. “We’ll go back to the way things were. To the way things are supposed to be.” Feeling better after his declaration, Link pulled you against him once more. There was still hope. He could make things work. “I love you, s/o.”
