Eugene 💜✨

i remember seeing Eugene’s “I’m Gay” video before i came out, i remember feeling so much joy to see someone come out so publicly creatively and boldly. i felt pretty deep emotions with Eugene’s recent video announcing he’s leaving the try guys. this felt like a bookend to how inspirational that original video impacted me. i’ve grown so much as a queer person since (even through coming out to my partner, family and friends back in 2020 along with announcing it on social media) it still makes me emotional today, because i’m so happy now, where back then, everything felt so uncertain and scary with even the idea of saying it out loud.

✨thank you, Eugene, for being so inspiring, creative and boldly yourself. i can’t wait to see how much further you’ll go. you’re an icon. ✨

i wanted to create a piece that spoke to those two videos. i drew a triceratops earring mimicking the gold earrings Eugene wore in “I’m Gay” to the tiny little ear cuff in “Love, Eugene”.
