The site upgrades are proceeding as planned.
Currently we’re backfilling the search database to support Mastodon 4.2’s new search features.
The next step — after taking a backup image of the server — is completing an Ubuntu OS upgrade, then the site will be back online.

October 20 Software Upgrades
On Friday, October 20, beginning at 9am Eastern Time, a2mi.social will undergo software upgrades which will require taking the site offline.
The site will be back online no later than 4pm Friday, and it may be intermittently available during the maintenance window.
Highlights for this maintenance window:
A2mi.social will be upgraded to Mastodon 4.2.1, which includes a number of major improvements including an improved search experience.
And details for the nerds:
We're migrating the site to run in Docker to ease OS upgrades
The server's disk capacity will be doubled
Postgres will be upgraded to v14.x
We'll upgrade the server to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, and then 22.04 LTS if we have time during this window
A backup image of the server will be taken before each of these steps, to ensure that we can restore the site to a working state if any upgrade fails or we're nearing the 4pm end of the maintenance window.
Updates will be posted at status.a2mi.social occasionally during the maintenance window.

15:01: Main server has been shut down for upgrades.
15:03: Main server backup snapshot has started.
15:09: Installed system software updates on Elasticsearch server.
15:10: ES server shutdown for upgrades.
15:12: ES server backup snapshot has started.
15:25: ES server backup complete; starting ES server resize.
15:26: Main server backup complete; starting main server resize.
15:28: ES server resize complete; booting it up.
15:30: ES is back up.
15:32: Main server resize complete; booting it up.
15:34: Site is online and health checks are passing.
15:35: All maintenance that required extended downtime is complete.

Around 11am Eastern time today (11/7), the site will undergo a server upgrade to better handle the recent influx of traffic.
This post will be updated throughout the process.

11:23 AM EST: Backup snapshot complete.
11:23 AM EST: Server resize started.
11:35 AM EST: Server resize complete. Server booting up!
