The Royal Story - Rajasthani Poshak

The State Rajasthan is one of the most famous and royal State in India. The tradition and culture of this state are beyond imagination, have an incredible culture, heritage, history and ethnic clothing style. The folk culture-historical monuments and royal heritage make it the most visited tourist spot. Coming back to its ethnic clothing is totally graceful and traditional.

This ethnic clothing is a special feature and a royal identification mark of Rajputi Women’s. The bridal Poshak is one of its own beautiful kind in the exotic variety of the Rajasthani Poshak. The Rajasthani Poshaks is a beautiful illustration of zari, zardossi, taara work embroidered all over. They have a distinctive stand in the entire culture of the beautiful Rajasthan.

Classification of Rajputi Poshaks

Ghagra – A long skirt that ends at the feet. Cut in short “kalis” to add width and magnificence at the bottom, more the “kalis” more the glory of Ghagra. Tailored with distinct fabrics in the beautiful range of colour, prints and designs.

Kurti and Kanchali – It covers the upper body of women, having two different pieces, the kurti being the first worn over the kanchali which is the second piece. The Kanchali and Kurti require skilled artisans for this laborious art of tailoring this ethnic clothing come out as magical and alluring.

Odhani – A long piece of 2.5-meter transparent cloth, made with mild fabric usually chiffon and georgette, etc weighing lightweight just as like a feather. Odhni gives a complete look, enhances the charm of the Rajasthani Poshak and adds to the beauty of the women adorning it. The style of carrying the odhani is distinctive and vary from community to community.

It covers the whole body with the head and adds dignity and elegance to a women's beauty. An embellished look can be attained by adding patches and embroidery like that of intricate zari, zardossi, tara and kundan work.

While other dresses in India have a different style of adorning the ethnic clothing, these Rajputi Poshak are stitched in the same way but with distinctive beautiful colours and designs.

Bandhani Suits - A Rajasthani Legacy

The alluring art form called Bandhani is an astonishing skill. The process includes dying a fabric tied tightly with a thread at many points, thus producing a variety of beautiful and elegant designs. The designs are produced in the formation in which cloth is tied. Accuracy and patience, both are needed for the same. Bandhani has beautiful ethnic wears to offer. Mainly colours used in Bandhani suits are red, yellow, green, blue and black. The most popular ones are white and red which gives an eccentric and beautiful appeal to the pattern. Over the decades, many colours and many designs have evolved in this beautiful vintage traditional art form.

The colours used in Bandhani suits are both natural as well as artificial. Generally, dark colours are used as the pattern compliments better with dark and lively colours in the background. In the early days, dyes were extracted from berries, flowers, roots, and leaves. Rajasthan produces a refined quality of bandhej. Places in Rajasthan like Sikar, Bhilwara, Udaipur, Jaipur Bikaner, Ajmer, and Jamnagar in Gujarat are the popularly known centres producing odhnis(Dupattas), suits, sarees and turbans specialising in Bandhani. Different communities in Rajasthan have for eras practised the tradition of tying turbans with different designs of bandhani on their heads. Each colour used in Bandhani suit conveys a specific meaning in Bandhej. If red is worn, It signifies a newly wedded bride. It is believed that adorning a Bandhani suit can bring a good future to a bride. Also, if yellow is worn it depicts a newly become blessed mother.

Bandhani suits have been sold all over India and the demand has impressively increased over the past few eras.
