Hero (Pacific Rim)

I am going to talk about Raleigh Becket and his epic (pretty cool and enviable) journey to beat the alien invaders and close the gate that keeps spewing them out. As a Jaeger pilot, Raleigh’s task is to safeguard humanity from the alien invaders. However, when his brother died during one of their fights, he hung up his coat and stopped being a pilot. Only when the aliens are starting overwhelm the humans, did Raleigh accept his real quest, which is to stop the alien invasion once and for all, from Marshall Pentecost. Raleigh accepted this quest knowing that humanity’s fate hangs on the rest of his shoulders as they cannot withstand another wave of an alien invasion. However, he also knows that he will have to get back inside one of the Jaeger machines again, which brings back traumatic memories, because his brother died while they were still connected with each other. Raleigh also knows that it is a perilous quest also since the Alien invaders become larger and more dangers as time passes by. In a way, Raleigh is both a redeemer and a saviour figure because he redeems himself for failing to protect his brother (because of his own arrogance) and saves the rest of humanity from an apocalyptic event.

(Spoilers)!!Bachelor Finale: Body Language

Based on the body language, I figured that Ben would propose (and he did) to Lauren since theirs is more intimate than Ben and Jojo’s. When Ben introduced Lauren to his parents, their body language was somewhat awkward, since they were unsure where to place their hands on each other. This suggests that Ben and Lauren were nervous when they were meeting Ben’s parents, since Ben really wants his parents to have a good impression of Lauren. During their date on the catamaran, Ben was completely engrossed on kissing Lauren at the back of her neck, while Lauren was caressing his head. Also, I noticed that Ben was so focused with the act of kissing Lauren that he rarely looked at Lauren when she was talking. This implies that their relationship leans more on the physical side since they spend more time caressing each other. During their last meeting before the proposal, Ben hugged Lauren tightly, and for a long time. This implies that Ben does not want let go of Lauren and it’s a foreshadowing of the events that will happen later in the show. Ben will propose to Lauren because he treats her more like a lover unlike Jojo, who he has a more platonic relationship with.

Ben and Caila (spoilers)

Ben and Caila manage to establish an intimate relationship even though Kevin Hart and Ice Cube keeps distracting them (Kevin Hart mainly) on their date. They slowly open up to each other as the date progresses, culminating in a meaningful kiss at a very romantic place. At the start of the date, they cannot get to know each other because of the distractions in the car. Caila sits in the front passenger seat while Ben drives. This divides his attention since he needs to pay attention to the road as well. Kevin Hart and Ice Cube also interrupts them when they try to strike up a conversation. However, Caila’s body language indicates that she is not interested in the celebrities because she’s always looking at Ben. Ben and Caila finally gets the privacy they deserve at the Hot tub when Ice drags Kevin out of the tub. They reveal the laid-back nature of their relationship as they are not focused on getting sexually intimate in the tub but to have fun instead (lolwut). At the dinner, they open up more to each other as they discuss their past and what they’re looking for in a relationship. Their conversation reveals how intimate and personal Ben and Caila are. She tells him a personal story about her and her ex which signifies that she is alright with being vulnerable to Ben and how she trusts him. The day fittingly ends with Caila and Ben dancing intimately at the theatre to a very romantic tune while looking at each other’s eyes with few words being spoken.

A Saturday in Spring

------------------------------------ (4 YEARS LATER) ---------------------------------------

The sun is at its peak and a gentle breeze blows by. The flowers are in full bloom. Cyrano and Roxane are sitting on the bench together under the enormous tree at the center of the convent. Roxane preoccupies herself by embroidering tapestry. Cyrano is observing her while playing his lute.)

(Cyrano slowly stops playing. Roxane notices although she continues with her embroidering.)

Roxane: Why did you stop playing, cousin? The way you played, it seems like Apollo taught you himself. Is there something on your mind? If so, confide in me as you would when we were still children.

(Roxane nudges Cyrano and he comes out of his trance.)

Cyrano: All is well, my dear. I am just mesmerized by the movement of your hands as they work in unison to produce your beautiful embroidery. Arachne has found her match it seems.

Roxane: Why, thank you for that glowing compliment! Although I believe my work is embarrassingly inferior to Arachne’s as I have been only doing this just to pass the time. By being busy, I do not think about him that often…

(Roxane stops what she is doing and caresses the letter on her bosom. The breeze picks up again and dies down as it quickly began.)

               That day has been seared into my mind and created an unfillable chasm in my heart…

(Roxane suddenly cries. Cyrano puts his lute down and comforts her. She settles down.)

Cyrano: Would you consider teaching me the art of embroidery? I might be good with a sword but I am artless with that miniscule fencing sword of yours.

Roxane: (Laughing and teasingly) The Great Cyrano, eloquent and sophisticated in his swordsmanship and writing yet does not know how to use a needle!

(Roxane sits behind Cyrano and gives him the embroidery materials. She holds her arms.)

Here, I will teach you the simple techniques. I believe you’ll learn faster if you do it firsthand.

(Roxane starts guiding Cyrano’s hands as he embroiders.)

Cyrano: Two threads intertwined under Fates’ command.

They separate and meet many times on their journey

Creating beautiful patterns along the way.

Roxane: How you play with your words and how it sings to my heart ---

Sister Marguerite: Oh Sister Roxane, come inside! The Comte De Guiche requests your appearance!

(Roxane gets up quickly and while she’s walking to the doors…)

Roxane: Oh heavens me! I forgot! Oh sorry my dear cousin, I must go! We must continue this the next time you return, yes?

Cyrano: Oh, absolutely, my dear! I’m afraid I must go too. Monsieur Le Bret has told me that the scoundrel Montfleury is back at the Hotel De Bourgogne. Adieu!

Act of Courtly Love

Kiss Metaphor (I tried)

DISCLAIMER: Because of my lack of experience (hihi) in this department, this metaphor is solely based on my expectations of what a first kiss feels like.

A First Kiss is a slingshot ride.

If you don’t know what a slingshot ride is I’d suggest you try it. Even before the ride starts, you experience a rush of adrenaline for you won’t know when it launches.

THEN BAM!

It launches you into the air and you’re literally sky high. You feel exhilaration the whole time. Then it slowly comes down and you’re stupefied, trying to recollect what happened. Eventually, you’ll ride it again in an attempt to recreate the same emotions. However, it won’t be the same as before since you already know what’s going to happen.

Poem (it is bad)

I love making Gyoza (but not as much as eating them!). I learned the recipe from a quirky video on Youtube and here is my poetic twist on that recipe:

sidenote: this is like grade 2 poetry LOL

A Poem about making Gyoza

Verse 1:

Cabbage, Onions, green and white

Dice them small as an ants ‘ bite.

Knead the meat, season it right

with flavors that will bring delight.

Verse 2:

Dough wrappers on flour sheet

envelop small spheres of meat.

Fold then crease, rinse and repeat

Fifty more pieces until you’re complete!

Verse 3:

Sear their bottoms for that crunch.

Steam them to make an edible lunch

Mix vinegar and soy for that punch!

Let them cool down then munch!

Disclaimer: I didn’t know that they switched the gender roles (fite me) so I was confused about what was happening.

My favorite blocking moment was the serenading of Orsino by Cezario/Viola. This is a very romantic act and, at the same time very ironic, since it was the girl (Cezario/Viola???) who was singing to the guy (Orsino). It reminds me somewhat of  the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet and the tradition of "harana”, a filipino tradition where you basically  the person you like. This romantic blocking foreshadows their eventual matrimony.

A phrase that describes the color GOLD. Pirates are always in search of valuable items often depicted as gold doubloons or jewelry.

Sword Name: “Acheron’s Hand”

Named after one of the rivers of the Underworld. Also known as the “River of Woe”. I chose this name because it brings WOE TO ANYONE WHO DEFIES ME. (jk im nice)

Epithet: Aaron Joaquin.... Just kidding! It’s Aaron “Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen” Tanada

Like Smitty’s hat (which was stolen), my water bottle was also stolen and returned x 10 (or more). Also, he was NUMBER 1. 

Bar Name: Spiritsync

I chose this name because “spirits” is another name for alcohol (I think). The “sync” is the short term for synchronization. My bar is the type of bar where people dance and drink to form a connection or something.

Sucking Up 101 by Jeffrey Varner

Jeffrey Varner, a member of the Angkor tribe, embodies the sycophant archetype (there is PROBABLY an archetype like that). His recent outburst last episode revealed his lack of trust in the group and he wasted no time trying to convince the group otherwise. He explicitly stated that he was “indebted to [the group] which makes [him] sick” and has to “kiss their asses.” After the tribal council, Varner immediately declared his loyalty to Abby, a person whose loyalty changes on a whim, and Andrew, the presumed leader of the group. He says after the challenge that “[he] can’t believe that [he’s] to sit down and dine with [them]” implying his gratitude to them for not voting him out. He constantly flatters Abby to persuade her to vote for someone else at the tribal council saying that he “misses their talks.” During the tribal council, he makes pleas to Tasha, Andrew, and Abby, stating that he is loyal to them and that they can trust him. Fortunately, the group saw through the facade that Varner has been playing and votes him out. He expresses his dissatisfaction at Abby, whispering to her “you little b*tch.” Loyalty is an important value to have in the game and it can make the difference between an early dismissal or winning the game entirely. Unfortunately, loyalty is a value that Varner did not have.

Why WUd you do that to me?

In every tribe he has been, which includes his current tribe, Angkor, Wu is that guy who is just there. His situation is that he does not attract attention, and therefore, has no influence on his tribe. In episode 3, Wu gets a fresh start as he is put into a new tribe. He attempts to make new alliances with the other tribe members, such as Tasha. However, nothing changes as Wu is left out of the dominant group’s (Jeff, Andrew, Tasha) conversations. He thinks he is a part of the dominant group as they plot who is going to be voted out at the tribal council. Unfortunately, he is unaware of the other’s decision to vote out Peih-gee which he expresses through the surprised look that is evident on his face. The tribe uses Wu’s nice, gullible personality to benefit them during the voting and labour in the camp.
