Music To My Ears~ TAEYONG ONESHOT
The sweet sound of the acoustic guitar reverberated in the room. She smiled as she watched him nod his head, eyes closed as his fingers strummed the chords gently.
This was one of her favourite songs. He knew that and this was a small thank you gift to her for being such a good friend to him over the years. They had grown together and ever since she first heard that he had started to play the guitar, she always pestered him and asked him to play songs for her while she sang along.
Over the years though, there was one song which kept coming back. She didn't know why, but she always loved to hear him strum the chords to that song.
The song was about a man falling in love with a woman and she thought that, maybe subconsciously, she hoped that he would fall for her because of this.
Nonetheless, this song kept coming back and she kept singing her heart out as she watched him strum the guitar the same way he could so easily strum her heart strings.
As he finished the song and she finished singing, he wished her a happy birthday and looked at her with those hazel eyes which she came to love over the years of knowing him.
Looking at her, he smiled, making her tense up mentally and fall even more in love with the young man. She smiled and a small chuckle escaped her lips.
"What is it?" he asked her.
"Nothing, just thinking about how old this song is. Don't you ever get tired of playing it?" she replied.
"Now how could I possibly get tired of a song which you suggested years ago?"
"I don't know, overplaying it?"
"I play it every day at least once, and every time I do, I love it even more."
"Why's that?"
"No reason in particular," he said with a grin, she knew he was hiding something.
"Come on, I've known you for years, I know if you're hiding something."
"Do you know?"
"Yes, and I can tell that right now you're hiding the reason."
"Fine, I love this song because it has such a nice beat to it," his grin widened and she cocked her eyebrow.
"Really?"
"Fine, fine, it's because it was suggested by a girl who I, over the years, have come to love with all my heart."
"You're kidding…" she said softly with a small smile.
When she looked back into his eyes, she realized he was dead serious. He stared deep into her eyes.
"Would you play it again then?" she inquired.
"You know, I am getting tired of playing it?"
"What, you said you'd never get tired of it."
"That is true, but I would like to try dancing to it," he said, "Maybe… with a partner…A slow dance mayhaps…Your thoughts?"
'Dance?' she thought to herself blushing, 'me dancing with him?'
"I'd love to," she finally responded, standing up and grabbing his hand.
His hands went on either side of her hips, gripping her softly. She instinctively wrapped her arms round his neck and they began to dance to the soft music playing.
He looked at the speakers which were blasting slow music.
"Down here," she said, a hint of annoyment in her tone.
"Huh?" he asked.
"Well, you finally woke up."
"I wasn't sleeping."
"It's a figure of speech. And anyways, I'd assume that since you asked me to dance, you'd at least have the courtesy to look me in the eye."
"Fine," he said looking into her green eyes, "but, you'll have to follow one of my requests as well."
"And what might that be?"
He pulled her closer to him so that their bodies were pressed one against the other.
"There, that should do," he answered smugly looking her straight in the eyes.
"Will it really?" she asked him before placing her forehead against his and touching noses with him. "There," she continued with a giggle, "now isn't that a little better?"
He smiled and kept looking into her eyes silently.
Their song went on, letting each of them lose themselves in the eyes of the other. His arms tightened around her waist, holding her close as if she could vanish at any moment. She did the same, keeping her face close to his.
"Well, already over," she looked at him in disappointment.
"Yes, except for one thing."
"What's that?" she asked, excitedly expecting a kiss.
"May I twirl you to put a more formal end to our dance?"
"Sure," she replied lifting her hand and allowing him to twirl her.
"Alright, satisfied?"
"I can't say I'm not. Well then, I guess it's my turn to make a request now isn't it?" she said.
"Oh, sure," he said, a little surprised.
"Alright, for starters, right arm needs to go around my waist and right arm has to be a little above that."
"OK…? What do you wan—" he was cut off by her lips locking onto his and embracing them softly.
They stayed this way for what seemed like forever, but neither of them wanted it to end. Pulling away from their kiss, he stared into her green eyes absolutely dumbfounded.
"What?" she asked with a slight laugh.
"Huh?"
She laughed; he looked and sounded absolutely clueless.
"I guess that was my birthday gift," she grinned.
"Oh… Uhh… Yeah Happy Birthday," he said looking at her trying to understand the self-satisfied smile plastered on her lips.
"Well, it's getting late, I guess I should be heading out."
"Yeah, heading out, you're doing that." he said in disbelief.
"See ya tomorrow," she giggled as she left.
He watched her exit before it all hit him.
"That was amazing," he said out loud, picking up his guitar and playing the song again to replay the moment in his head.
She stood outside his door and listened to him. After all these years, they had finally come together.
