Maths and other Puzzles for better development of your Children
Tumblr media
Puzzle is a game, problem, or some other set-up which is designed to entertain by presenting difficulties and confusion and requires patient effort to solve it. It is a kind of fun activity that can help the children to develop their logical skills as well as analytical and co coordinating skills.
From the very early age we all have got various kinds of puzzle games as birthday gifts. Even our parents have bought these games for us like the jigsaw puzzle games, match the alphabet games etc. Through these games we have all learnt the alphabets, numbers, recognized different geometrical shapes etc. Nowadays; children also get to solve jigsaw puzzles, containing their favorite cartoon or comic characters in them. Thus, it can be said that a child should be exposed to these kinds of games for various benefits.
Following are some of the benefits of solving the puzzles for children:
        * Cognitive skills: Improves a child's problem solving, reasoning skills, visual spatial awareness        * Fine motor skills: Fine motor manipulation is very important for writing but a child starts learning this long before he/she can hold a pencil. Puzzles for children (puslespil til børn)like chunky can help to teach how to pick up and grasp pieces and help in developing their pincher grasp        * Hand-eye coordination: A child does a lot of manipulation in solving a puzzle through which their hand eye coordination is enhanced        * Social skills: Many puzzles can be played by more than one player which helps to develop interaction and communication between them Following criteria should be kept in mind while selecting puzzles for children:      * Age of the child      * Materials used for making the puzzle      * Types of puzzles Among various types of puzzles some of the popular puzzles are the Maths Puzzles. Math toys (matematik legetøj)or puzzles can be viewed as a kind of recreational mathematics. Like multiplayer games these also involve specific rules for playing or solving. The player needs to take the help of mathematics for solving them. He or she need to solve the puzzle before everyone else rather, needs to find the solution which will fulfill all the given constraints or conditions. Sudoku is one of the popular maths puzzles. The other different types of maths puzzles include: Arithmetic, algebra and numbers, Combinatorial, Analytical, Probability, Tiling and dissection, Chessboard, Topology, graph theory, 0-player puzzles.

Learning With Fun and Joy
Tumblr media
How many of us can remember a time as a child when we did not play with toys? Toys are synonymous with childhood which is perhaps the most innocent phase of our lives as a human being on this planet earth. Toys are anything with which a child can play and learn (leg og lær) different aspects of life at an early stage. The history of toys can be traced to 3000 BCE as many toys such as small carts, whistles shaped birds and monkeys made out of clay, belonging to the Indus Valley Civilization have been excavated. Toys such as dolls, sticks and bows and arrows made out of wax and terracotta were used by children in Ancient Greece and Ancient Roman civilization.
As time passed by, with development in technology the toys which in the days of yore were made by natural materials like terracotta, wood, straw and wax were replaced by toys made of synthetic materials like rubber and plastic. Today unlike the days of yore toys are mass produced and sold in markets where there is a toy according to everyone’s budget. The earliest of the toys were dolls which were played by kids even in Ancient Egyptian Civilization. Dolls in Egypt were made out of wood and many of them even had movable limbs and used to wear wigs. In the modern times the most famous doll is known as Barbie who was launched in 1959 by an American toy company called Mattle, Inc. Since toys are an essential item in the shopping list of any family with small children, it is very obvious that toys industry plays a major role in the economy of any country. Sales of toys increase especially during vacations and festivals such as Christmas and Easter.
Another popular kind of toy is teddy bear which comes in the category of soft toys and is also called plushie. Teddy bears are popular in many countries and they are not only favourite toy of children but also adults as teddy bears are one of the best-selling gifts on Valentine’s Day. Bilibo is a toy made of hard wearing plastic which is shell in shape. This toy came into the market in 2001 and was developed by a Swiss Designer Alex Hochstrasser who made this toy after consultations with experts in child development. According to experts in child development this shell shaped toy can help the children in developing motor skills and a sense of balance.

Malebog and Motor toys for your child’s best development
Tumblr media
There are certain factors that are responsible for the development of a child. While few factors have to be taken care of by the parents at home, rest are taken care of at schools. As the child first leaves the comfort and acquainted faces of its family members, and goes to a school, it needs certain MAlebog and educational toys to help them learn things in a fun way. These educational aids normally help in the physical and mental growth of the children. They are very important as tools to teach the young souls.
Children always understand things better when they get a physical feel of the objects or can perceive things with their sight. For this reason the kindergarten and Montessori schools use such educational aids like – malebogs, motor toys, 3D-story books etc to teach the kids. All these things are very colourful and normally have a glossy finish. The kids are made to learn about colours from toys of different colours. They are also given picture and colouring books to help them recognise each colour, with the fun element intact.
Coloured cubes of alphabet and numerical are also used to teach them the respective things! Shapes and sizes are also taught in the same way by blocks or stacking rings. This contributes in the development of cognitive thinking in the kids.
These toys also help in the physical growth of the children. There are certain toys which involve physical activity like arranging cubes in a particular order; playing with motor toys (motorisk legetøj) and understanding the concept of ‘left’ and ‘right’. Push-and-pull and ride-on car toys are a great way to help them learn as their physical activity helps in their development.
Intellectual growth is also boosted by giving them simple puzzles to solve. These help in the hand and eye co-ordination of the children, and they become sharp and swift. This process of interaction and active participation of the children with the educational toys, slowly craft them into characters of personality.
While these educational aids for children are mainly used in playschools, some parents also feel they are a great investment for the sake of the bright future of their little ones. Choosing educational toys for your children is no child’s play. Picking up the right kinds of toys will enhance the development of your child, which you will be surprised to see. Make learning fun for your kids.

Unlock Your Child’s Imagination
We dwell in an age where the advent and advance of technology has killed the innocence our children once possessed. Even the youngest of our offsprings are exposed to television, computers, the Internet, playstations and other forms of recreational technology that surround them. However, reputed toy companies still continue to make educational toys that provide hours of entertainment to children while still stimulating and aiding their mental development, learning, imagination and creativity.
Tumblr media
Most noteworthy of such toys are institution toys (institutionslegetøj) which young kids can play with and still learn from. Perhaps the most popular of these toys is the ‘Lincoln Logs’. They were invented somewhere back in 1915 or 1916. Lincoln Logs form a part of the American culture and form a part of homes all across the globe now. The game is basically simplistic in nature. It has ‘logs’ which can be joined together into different works of imagination making them quite enjoyable to play with. Lincoln Logs are available in any major toy store, mall and online store and guarantee your child with endless hours of fun and enjoyment—only his/her imagination is the limit.
Who can forget the car and the train sets? They are still popular among toddlers between ages of 2 to 4. Kids of that age are so young (mentally in particular) that anything and everything grabs their attention—remember how you used to play with your own train set? These sets can boost both imagination and creativity. They are available in all shapes and sizes. Children tend to create an entire universe around cars and trains—watch entire toy stories and even movies come alive before them!
If you are looking for another option in occupying your child while still ensuring that he/she enjoys and learns in the process, then you can opt for the ‘Pyramid of Play’. It is, however, a bit expensive but has four walls which contain a variety of games and activities which provide endless hours of fun. If your child is still young, then you can go for the ‘Ball Pounder’—the child has to pound balls through holes of different shapes—simple, yet very amusing.
The list of educational and institution toys are virtually endless. Learning toys for children include: playhouses, boxes, shape sorters, activity desks etc. These toys are generally made of wood so they are easy to clean up, durable and most importantly, non-toxic. So light up your child’s life—buy toys (køb legetøj) today!

Know the History of That Toy
The times they are changing-- just look at what our children are playing with nowadays. Dollhouses and toy cars still continue to captivate the imagination of youngsters but the more popular playthings of the newer generation are interactive video games, remotely controlled toys and robots that talk!
Tumblr media
Toy robots originated about at the same time when prototypes of actual robots were being built. Frenchman Jacques de Vaucanson built one of the earliest robot prototypes in the year 1738. It was remarkable at that time and the concept is still intriguing—he invented a self automated mechanical duck that could eat grain and digest it, flap its wings and was also able to excrete! Hisashige Tanaka, of Japan, outdid himself with a variety of excessively complex automated toys, or motor toys (motorisk legetøj), which could serve tea, fire projectiles and even paint!
The first humanoid robot saw its advent in the 30s at the hands of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation. The robot was christened ‘Elektro’ and was on display at the World’s Fair from 1939 to 1940. In the year 1949, William Grey of Burden Neurological Institute (in Bristol, England) made the first electrically powered automation—in fact he built two—‘Elmer’ and ‘Elise’. These robots were capable of sensing light and contact with objects in their environment, even being able to locate their charging points in case their power source was running out of juice.
The first true toy robot can be allegedly acclaimed to the Tomy Kyogo Company which built ‘Omnibot 2000’ in the year 1985. The robot could be controlled by a hand held remote control or one could program a set of commands on a magnetic tape. The revolutionary toy robot dog AIBO was built in the 90s by Sony Corporation. AIBO was able to self navigate a room and play ball and fetch using its superior sensor array and locating sensors. AIBO still continues to evolve and astound. Other pet robots soon followed suit. Furby was created in ’98, by Tiger Electronics, which could interface with its owner. Then AIBo saw its competitor in NeCoRo in 2001 (by Omron). NeCoRo was able to generate and exhibit feelings!
Toy robots have come a long way. They form a steady companion for any child and are able to provide hours of fun and education as well. There’s nothing more influential, in getting your child interested in mechanics and electronics, than robots. Toy robots also form great institution toys (institutionslegetøj). So the next time you are out to buy toys—remember the toy robot!

Let you child develop creativity with color and motor skills with toys
Life is surrounded by color and children are very fond of color. This is one activity which attracts almost all children. If a child is not responding to other activities give him a coloring book (malebog)and see how he reacts. He will immediately start coloring even if he is doing it for the first time. Color is connected with creativity and we are all creative to the core. Creativity for children means a lot. The great thing is that when children start coloring it also helps them to develop other skills as well. They get to understand their motor skills. They also learn about hand and eye coordination.
Tumblr media
While buying coloring books for children you have to look for certain things. Children have pre-set themes in their minds. Some characters or objects are their favorites. So when you choose books keep that theme in mind which your child finds attractive. Both boys and girls have their own favorite themes. Identify those and buy accordingly. Another thing which you should know is that these books have different levels. There are books for beginners as well as for those whose skill level are higher. Understand the skill level of you child and buy one which compliments his skill. This will important otherwise you child will get frustrated trying to figure out things which he cannot fathom.
It is normal for children to play with toys. As such, all parents buy toys for their children. Now the question is that why toys are necessary for children. Most parents give a vague answer that toys are meant for playing. However apart from playing a child also needs to develop his intellectual and motor skills. This is where toys can play a determining role. Apart from experiencing the joy of playing if your child can also develop his other skills then it can be really good for your child.
Motor toys (motorisk legetøj) are specially made to develop motor skills in children. When your child is able to develop his motor skills it also helps develop his brain. Children are naturally very curious and they love to explore. If this trait is appropriately harnessed through correct application then your child will grow up smarter. However it is incorrect to make your child play with toys without your participation. Human interaction while playing is very important. On your part you can explain a game or the features of a toy to your child. Once he gets engaged with the toy many questions will arise in his mind and you have to be there to answer those.

How you can give your child the double benefit of playing and learning
Children love puzzles. That is why you will see parents buying them for their children. There are different types of puzzles and parents choose according to the fancy of their children. As children play with puzzles it engages them mentally as well as physically. They become engrossed in problem solving and this gives parents enough time to complete their household chores. Puzzles for children (puslespil til børn) are not meant to act only as playthings because there are many long term benefits associated with it. A child who regularly plays with puzzles becomes smarter because it enhances his problem solving skills.
Tumblr media
When a child plays with a puzzle he gets mentally stimulated. Once they manage to solve it they again start from the beginning. This enables them to work on different strategies in puzzle solving. Puzzles act as a kind of challenge and when the child takes up this challenge successfully it increases his self confidence. This is what parents exactly want from their children. A puzzle also helps a child to develop his hand and eye coordination. For young children this is very necessary. Another benefit of playing with puzzles is that it helps small children develop their reasoning as well as problem solving skills. This trait helps them later on in their life. Apart from these there are many other benefits of playing with puzzles which is not available with other modern toys.
Sometimes children get bored playing the same thing over and over again. This can happen when the plaything is not interesting enough. Children play to get entertained and also to learn. Therefore to enable your child to play and learn (leg og lær) at the same time you need an effective method. The playing activity should be such that it is also an interesting learning process.
Therefore as a parent make sure to select a game which can make your child enjoy and which also teaches him/her different skills. The most effective method to teach your children is through the ‘learning by playing’ method. Toys that conform to this method come with a concept. When your child plays with such toys he gradually unravels the concept. There are different games like for example the monopoly game, the scrabble game etc which actually helps a child to hone his decision making skills, develop word power etc.
Children need practical training and parents should start this training from a very early age. This way learning becomes effective.

How can you help your child who is suffering from learning problems?
A child gets his first lesson at home and parents are the first teachers. Reading and writing are the two fundamental characteristics of learning. When a child can read and write effortlessly at home it become easy for him when he joins a school. Sometimes parents observe that their child shows no interest in the learning process particularly reading. This can be a matter of concern because reading is of prime importance. Nowadays parents worry a lot about the performance of their children because there is intense competition amongst children too. Grades are very important and children who have reading problems (læseproblemer) will definitely fall back on grades because this drawback will hamper their learning.
Tumblr media
Therefore it is compulsory for parents to observe their children from a very early stage. If they notice that their child is facing a problem with reading they should get it corrected immediately. Otherwise as the child grows older his self confidence will diminish and this will affect his performance in school. Gradually the child will show disinterest in learning. There are several common causes which lead to reading difficulties. It is the responsibility of parents to identify those and get them rectified. Children may experience problems in reading because of poor eyesight, lack of comprehension, difficulty in uttering individual phonemes of words, difficulty in retention etc.
Difficulty in reading is a kind of learning disability. As your child grows up he becomes curious to know and understand about life and other things around him. If he is developing a disinterest in learning things then this will obstruct his curiosity. Thankfully today there are educational toys which not only entice a child to play but also urge him to hone his skills. A child’s sensory, motor and mental skills needs to be harnessed continuously for an all round development. For children with learning disabilities, this is very imperative.
Educational toys help enhance problem solving capabilities in children. Parents should give utmost importance towards complete development of their children so that they grow intellectually, emotionally and physically. When they buy toys (køb legetøj) for their children they should look into these factors.
Before purchasing toys ascertain the skill of your child instead of age if you want him to be ahead of his peers. Select toys that help stimulate all his senses. You don’t need to purchase a lot of toys at a time. This will confuse your child. Give one or a couple at one time and then move on as you observe that he is developing his interest as well as learning new things about his abilities.

Why Bilibo?
Buying toys for those little ones is indeed very exciting and pleasing idea. Parents and kids have always enjoyed doing this together. Children love to play with the toys for few days till that new feeling is there. Some weeks later their interest and the attachment towards the same toy vanishes into the thin air. You want your child to eat healthy foods and you cook for him or her keeping all the requirements in mind. But the kid finds paper pieces or potato skin tastier than the home made healthy food. You wonder what is so good about picking things from the floor and munching them. No one has the answer except that small fellow who derives overwhelming joy in doing so daily.
Tumblr media
The same behavior is attached with toys. The child`s doll or bear or motor toys (motorisk legetøj)have always been in the priority list. So you buy all these toys and feel happy to see your kid playing with them. What again makes you wonder is that the child leaves the toys and catches the box and start playing with it. You might joke saying that instead of all these toys you could have bought few boxes of different shape and size. Well this might sound amusing but this is where the genesis of bilibo has been laid. Kids adore them because these boxes can be used for multiple purposes. They either stand or sit or move it like a swing. If that doesn`t satisfy their creative streak, the same is used for carrying stuff around or putting it on their heads or using it as doll beds and tunnels. One gets fascinated to see how these colorful, light-weight and shell –looking boxes are used for different purposes by the kids. These toys have become a great hit in the market and more than parents the little child is aware of the fact. Children today are fast- paced than adults and the credit goes to the age of information explosion that we breathe in.
Even I was introduced to this bilibo (bilibo)my cousin`s daughter. She took time to show what she can do with this stylish box. I felt why the same thing wasn`t there when we were children. To this my cousin also agreed and we had a mutual –empathy rendering session for a while. With so many innovative, modish, sci-fi playthings capturing the toys market, it is such a nice thing to see these kids deriving untold joys from bilibo.

Fill In All Hues
I remember watching a movie where the child or the protagonist couldn't concentrate in studies. He hated going to school and reading was such a difficult task for this little fellow. Instead colors, imagination, cartoons, drawing, painting fascinated him to the core. Fed up from child's degraded academic performance the parents enrolled him in a boarding school under the impression that he will regain his studies and his reading problems will also vanish. They anticipated that the hostel life will make him learn and unlearn everything. This child developed into a different and improved personality with the help of his arts teacher. The teacher understood his area of interests and garnered that accordingly.
Tumblr media
Well I didn't cry buckets after watching this movie but I was highly touched. Reading is an important skill and every child should learn to read and write from very early. It is good for imagination and creativity. Constant reading helps the child to develop his speaking skills. We have been hearing these things since ages and can't deny the fact that these dictums does hold true eternally.
Unfortunately many children suffer from reading problems (læseproblemer). So it becomes imperative for the parents or teachers to create an element of interest in their hearts. Reading should be made exciting and fun- based activity. Instead of making them sit and read in a boring conventional room, try changing the semi fixed space of the room. If the room is colorful with paintings and cartoon cut-outs and other animated objects the child will feel great and it would act as injecting him with positive spirit and oodles of energy. Find a story where you can enact. Knight’s tale, King's tale or princess life are some of the all- time dear friends of children. If the child has reading problems, it is mandatory to make reading fun and not a drill or lesson.
I also feel that children love to draw and color. They learn to recognize color and once they get to see and touch the colors, their joys know no limit. They get very happy if someone draws an outline of a bear or a house and ask them to fill in colors. Providing them coloring book (malebog) is a great way to keep them occupied for hours. Instead of making your kids addict to video games and cartoon shows on the idiot- box, engage them with this colorful and interesting activity. If the kid is stressed out or not at peace make him or her sit with a coloring book. It will turn him cool as a cucumber. These strokes are something that the generation after generations will love doing so.

Learn while you play
The world of Humpty Dumpty or Jack and Jill is too close to our hearts when we were kids and when we grew up. The same attraction yielded from bedtime stories of kings and queens, idyllic palaces and decorated bastion. Superman, Batman, Spider man and He-man still make us go mad and we crave for that ecstatic perfect life as depicted in movies and magazines. The children are more than elated and electrified when it comes to all this. The same level of involvement and excitement can be seen on their face at the sight of their beloved toys and playthings.
Tumblr media
There has been a revolutionary change in the way makers have devised games and toys for children and the thought that parents carry in their mind while buying such things. Parents are concerned about the good quality as well as the educational value glued to the toys that they want to gift their little ones. Depending upon the age-group of the child the toys are manufactured. Today almost all toys enable kids to get equipped with particular skill which may start with defining eye movement and eye- hand coordination to recognizing the toy and involving the other parts of the body to grab that if it’s kept far away. In fact you don't have to educate your child how to play with the toys. They are fast enough to catch the trick after two or three attempts. The scholarship can extend from mere playing to learning letters and numbers of the alphabets and recognizing colors. If his linguistic development has started the parents can involve the child to speak few monosyllables at the initial stage.
One of the most interactive and mentally engrossing activities is to offer puzzles for children (puslespil til børn). You can have basic ABCD puzzle or arranging numbers and filling the missing ones. Jigsaw puzzle, tiles game, New Year or Christmas puzzles, picture puzzle have been great hit with this bustling crowd. Institution toys (institutionslegetøj) are in great demand in schools, church and other educational bodies. If a child loves to solve puzzle be assured that his brain is developing properly. Physical and mental health has to be augmented simultaneously at this growing stage. Parents can stay cool and calm for these interactive toys and puzzle are enough to ensure all round personality growth of their dear ones. Educational toys are the best bet as the fun and learning goes hand in glove. One doesn't have to think of anything else when these kids are at play. Let them enjoy!

Technological and Motor aids
In this article I would like to discuss about the generations which is to come and the generation which is going on today. Well all of us agree to the fact that our kids are as same as we were when we were of their age. When we were kids of some 2 to 3 years old then probably we could hardly express anything clearly and express it to our parents. We were able to communicate to our parents very well but we were not technologically smart and knew almost nothing about the wires and sockets around us. All we knew was our mother and father and few of our friends who played every day with us. When it came to the thought to going to school or our mother sending us to school then I remember myself and my other friends in the class who used to cry because we didn’t want go to school and stay home with our mothers. This was the case in most of the children as they were not dependent and smart enough or I say are not ready to face the world. The kids who are pampered by their children are not self dependent and do not feel secured at the thought of going out and facing the world alone and without their parents. It is the parents who are responsible for the child’s development and of the child is behaving like this. There is another fact in contradiction to what was happening in previous time. Today’s children have the capacity of staying a couple of nights without their parents ad rather than crying for not going to school, they cry because they want to go to school and love going to school. The parent has also become pretty advanced. They prefer to give technologically advanced toys to their kids rather than malebog and hand-on activities books. Technology is good for the child but later on it can create problems for the child like læseproblemer and development of fine motor skills which can have a bad effect on the kid’s motor skills. So it is highly recommended that you give both technological as well as hand on activates exposure to your kid as both complement each other and they are equally important for the development of the child. After all we are the ones responsible for our child.

Right time of the Learning Processes
The schools have now become very technologically advanced in terms of all amenities and facilities that it provides to your child. This is a general scenario that when the kids grow up and try and understand the meaning of facility and comfort , it is then the problem for the parent as they have to look for a school which suits their pocket as well it should have all the latest facilities that your child would love or prefer to use. So parents have check for schools and their pockets when thinking of putting their child in such a school where they will be happy and would love to go and grow there. Now let us take up a age group of say 3 to 6 years where the kids are in kindergarten. This phase is very crucial for the child’s development as it is very important that your child acquires certain skills and pre conceive notions about the world, this is because it will help them grow up with them. Did you know that the child depends upon the things that he or she has learnt between the ages of 2 to 8 years? This is period of the child’s life span is the most crucial one as the learning processes are taking place at the peak level and whatever the child come across during this age group will remain with him till the time he survives and he will grow with those skills and preconceived notions that he had acquired during that age group. So the parents have to be very careful when they have to choose a school for this age. The parents must make sure that the school which they choose for their child focuses on both, the mental as well as the motor skills development of the child.
