Bryan Christiansen
‘ Bryan Christiansen makes life-sized contemporary sculptures that challenge conventional notions about rural life, home, the rituals of the hunting tradition, and the innocence of childhood. Using discarded household furniture that he finds in neglected urban areas, Christiansen crafts assemblages that stand in for the trophies, antler mounts, and pelts so often prized by hunters.‘

Andrea Büttner
‘Büttner’s work often makes reference to religious communities, drawing attention to the relationship between religion and art, and between religious communities and the art world. The video Little Sisters: Lunapark Ostia focuses on a sisterhood of nuns who manage an arcade in a small amusement park in Ostia, near Rome. The nuns speak about their work and respond to questions posed by Büttner concerning happiness, spirituality and spectacle.’

Installation of her works often explore the use of block colour, either to highlight a piece or draw attention away from it.

Michael Stevenson and Jan Verwoert - The ant and the reclining beauty //2013
From the book ‘Animals Documents of Contemporary Art’
After a hard days work, an ant set out on his long way home, spent and tired, when he came upon a clearing where a figure was reclining on a podium. ‘Life is unjust!’, the ant cried furiously at the figure. ‘I work so hard and all you do is lie out the way and enjoy the surroundings. And at the end of the day you never have to worry about getting home because you never move at all!’

Adel Abdessemed - Usine 2009
‘The work that has people furious is Usine, a 1:27-minute color video made in Mexico depicting a bunch of different animal and insect species thrown together into a pen: We see fighting roosters, snakes, pit bulls, tarantulas, iguanas, white mice, scorpions, and one toad. The creatures maul or ignore one another. The tape freaked me out, turned me off, and even outraged me. But I admit to being intrigued that in many cases the creatures fighting one another were like unto like, that the same species went after the same species. I looked, I shuddered, I passed on to the next disappointing work, not giving the moral dimensions of Usine too much thought. ‘
