I started reading Brene Brown’s “Braving The Wilderness”.
Had to take a pause on page one. I’m not sure if she means this literally, but she talks about learning about people who have changed things, disruptors and whatnot, so that when she has something hard to do she can picture them encouraging her and calling out her bullshit. It’s interesting and I wonder who I would build my cheer section out of? Who reminds me of strength and courage? I feel like the bravest person who ever lived is probably someone completely forgotten by history. Someone who just kept getting up and moving forward even when it would have been so much easier to lay down and let everything go.
I think it’s easier to be brave when there’s some kind of recognition. Someone to remember you or something concrete to push back against.
I guess I’ll have to keep thinking about who would fill my roaster. Who’s opinions; both praise and call outs, can I consistently take to heart? Who in the past didn’t dabble in eugenics or something equally horrific?
