alright for the millionth time I'm seeing yet another author I admire talk about how they literally can barely afford to live & yet there are people openly admitting to pirating their books so, like

i guess it needs to be said again

pirating books is not the same as pirating your favourite Disney movie or whatever. book piracy kills author's incomes and can genuinely ruin someone's career

I love how every tweet i’ve seen telling people not to go to tumblr is like “they’re insane over there, those people will say they’re going to wrap you in raw meat and then airdrop you into a den of hungry lions” because yeah. we DO say stuff like that here. that’s part of tumblrs appeal actually

people who hoard media so it can be recovered and uploaded, people who maintain archives and wikis and databases, people who program emulators and other free or open source software, people who seed what they torrent - all doing gods work, truly. maybe it's overly optimistic to point out, but the fact that, despite every economic incentive and cultural bag-getter norm pushing otherwise, people still do this, is one of those things that makes me think socialism is possible. maybe we don't gotta live our lives scrambling over each other for cash
