Landscape idea - Lighthouse Originally, I had drawn vertical lines on the sides and swirled around, making it look like a whirlpool. Then I went with a large brush horizontally, creating a sand look. Thought I might add some kind of sand city but my mind wandered to familiarity. When I lived on Long Island, I would be at the beach frequently during the Summer into Fall. The sound of the waves crashing. The wind off the water bringing the salty smell to me. Cooling off in the water or resting in the small tent when it would get too hot on my skin. The lighthouse was always in view. Although this is not precise to the view we would’ve had, I worked a lighthouse into the background of this digital drawing. Safety Mirror Meltdown The temperature has been hot here in North Texas. When it was around 106°F the other day, the convex traffic safety mirror for the complex fell down. Cute Wedding Art for my Bro My brother Billy is getting married this week and I am not able to be there so I am making wedding artwork for them. I made several sketches and then decided to make them into wedding dolls. The brush pen version was scanned into Photoshop to clean up and color. Honestly, I spent way too much time trying to find a brush that matches ink and pencil so I could touch up where needed. A pattern was created from two pen sketches of them that were similar styles and placed these images along with versions flipped horizontally. The negative space has hearts. This pattern was constructed using Photoshop > View > Pattern Preview then Edit > Define Pattern when I was content, saving a transparent and flat version. The pattern was altered from purple to gray for another option. Old Man of the Mountain Digital Paint Progress Happy Pi Day! Today I had the chance to work on a landscape digital painting study. My Dad's family in New Hampshire had us go to a few landmarks when we would visit. One of them was The Old Man of the Mountain, also known as the Great Stone Face and the Profile, whose granite cliff ledges partially collapsed on May 3, 2003. (Wikipedia) This project is starting in gray tones as per the study I am watching on the 21 Draw website called "Introduction to Landscapes" by Philip Sue https://www.21-draw.com/course/introduction-to-landscapes/ Admittedly, even with the gray tones I am still getting stuck on detailing too early. Landscaping is challenging as I tend to get too detailed too soon and not enough composition gets laid down. I would like to find that balance and create levels with less wasted time and effort. All this comes down to practice and unless I am doing it, I won't get it done. Snippets from a Digital Painting Project Back in December of 2021, I finished working on a digital painting request for a friend. I cannot show the complete illustration until the project is released but I am proud of its progress. As seen on my website and Instagram, I tend to create simple loose characters and illustrations. Digitally painting realism is not my forté. As this was their request to have more realistic art, I grabbed as many photo references that they had to work off of. (Full post on Patreon) Completing this project along with the positive feedback satisfied me greatly. I am capable of doing this intensive work and I need to remember that when the anxiousness pulls at me, I can push through it with patience and persistence. The photos attached are the large forground tree and the furthest background trees and sky. Photo Caption 1: Amidst the green and green-blue layers of foilage brush strokes, the large grayish tree siphoned the artist's energy and time while they used the burning and dodging tools to give it depth. Photo Caption 2: The artist spent too much time redrawing these background ashen trees that are the least important subjects of the full digital painting. Took me “In the Heights” and “Mama Mia! Here We Go Again” to repair the collar thread on my 20+ year-old fleece purple robe. I was frustrated looking for the correct stitch but as it kept unraveling, I decided on an over-lock stitch. Size 8 Skirt A from Simplicity Sewing Pattern 8106. My hands cramped up while gathering the waist and tunneling the elastic through. Had to take my time and use compression gloves. Made a mock-up first in red before using the purple space-themed cotton.
